2007’s Most Unhealthy Food Picks

2007’s Most Unhealthy Food Picks

Sure we all have our little secret foods that we sneak in from our regular healthy diets. However, there are some foods that you may not know can cause you harm even that 1 time a week. Here's a look at our top unhealthy food picks for 2007, that I would suggest keeping out of, or taking off your free day list without a question.

1. Soda

Your average soda pop contains 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, and 50 mg of caffeine. Diet soda's often suggested as alternatives can almost be worse because they contain harmful chemicals such as aspartame. Drinking soda can cause many harmful effects to the body such as obesity, osteoporosis, heart disease, and also teeth decay.

2. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are completely full of trans fats. These are a major no no – fried, full of sugar and white flour, and have 200-300 calories. They can easily throw off your blood sugar levels, and if eaten for breakfast, can make you hungry fast.

3. French Fries

Potatoes alone can devastate your health because their simple sugars are rapidly converted to glucose and raise your insulin levels significantly. However, whenever they are fried in fat at high temperatures, all sorts of bad things happen. Trans fats can be therefore found in fried foods (not only French fries) which contains the cancer causing substance acrylamide. Certain oils used for frying including canola, soybean, safflower, corn, and some other nut oils can cause aging, clotting, inflammation, weight gain, and cancer.

4. Deli Meat

Deli meats may not seem all that bad compared to the rest on this list, but they are laced with preservatives, and other additives that can harm your body in many ways. It also contains high amounts of sugars that one would not assume to be found in meats.

5. KFC

Ok, so all fast food restaurants are a definite no. However, if you have to avoid one in particular, it would have to be KFC. The chicken is bad for your body. The chickens they use for KFC are given hormones, and raised in horrible conditions. The food is fried in fat, which we have already learned is a no, and loaded with salt, not to mention other spices that have unnamed origins.

This list could continue on, but those top five foods should be tossed from your "free day" list if they even happen to be on it. If you are making a fresh start for 2008, spare your body by avoiding these 5 health killers.
