To weigh or not weigh debate

Hi CD:D

I personally choose not to weigh I've never been a weigher.
Before Cohen's I actually invested in a super digital-bodyfat measuring etc scale and I have only been on it 3 times. Twice to check it works and once to weigh this was before Cohen's.

I don't even measure I did that my first week of Cohen's only.
I judge by my clothes and they are speaking for me instead of the scales.

I think the weigh debate is very individual in choice.
I know if I weighed every day and didn't see the scales move as anticipated on this programme I would become very upset and would most likely fall off the wagon.

I'm looking forward to my 8 week weigh in I know i have lost so whatever that may be I will just have to be satisfied with that.
I think not having much to lose does affect how you lose-mine has been slow but at least I know I am losing and with no strenous exercise either.
Sam:)

I deviated yesterday.

I've only been on the program for a week.

I don't own scales, and don't know how much I weigh now - whether my one week on Cohen's made any difference whatsoever. I was tired, lethargic - but not hungry or craved anything - and I was quite willing to put up with being tired IF it was going to help me towards my goal. (I understand the lethargy passes).

BUT if that's the case - then shouldn't I be keeping an eye on my goal - at least have a set of scales in the house to weigh myself? Surely it's motivating to see the scales decrease, "play the numbers game" if you will.

However - so many of you have expressed frustration at comuplsive weighing.

I suppose my query is whether weighing will help me keep on track, as I have a daily reminder of what I'm trying to achieve - or whether it will frustrate the situation and cause me to deviate or just be unhappy.

Perhaps it's just a personal thing?

What do you think?

I have a set of digital scales and i weigh regularly. Sometimes i consistantly drop weight each morning - 1/2 kg lighter each morning, and other times i stay the same. sometimes the weight fluctuates and goes up!

I like the regular weigh in because i can see my progress. When i first started cohen's i lost almost 10kg in the first 4 weeks, however my cm's didn't reaaly move at all for the first 5 kg which did my head in at the time.

I now take my cm measurements on the morning that i have my official weigh in and blood test, and that is my special treat/reward, because i can see how far i have come during each time period. i find the regular weighing helps keep me on track.
HOWEVER it is only useful to keep you on track if you don't beat yourself up and quit if the scales are not shifting. the body goes through a cycle of weight loss, cm loss, and stabilization. This cycle can vary in the length of time it takes to go through each phase. Sometimes i won't lose any weight for a week, then drop 1/2 to 1kg over night, each night for a few days. other times it is a steady loss of 1/5-1/4 a kg each night for a week, other times i have gained weight (Arghhhhh!) and then it has slowwwwwwwly removed itself, then done a sudden massive drop. There are so many variations within the cycle which is why monthly weighing is reccommended by Dr Cohen. However if it makes you feel better and helps keep you on track then get yourself a set of Digital scales and go for it!

My scales are super friendly and sometimes nasty..
They are digital and I can get on say weigh 80 then get off double check weigh 84 lol then get off disheartened hop back on and be 82 lol. So I have decided to keep them till refeed that way I know it may be lying to me and I cant get depressed.
BTW I can some Sprite Zero yesterday and was suprised how bloated and yuk I felt afterwards, looks like its water for me...Who said that :)

I weigh everyday, and find that helps me keep on track. BEcause of my work commitments, I eat out regularly and weighing every day helps me to see when I've stopped losing weight, or started putting it back on.
Some people find the "bouncing" around frustrating when you weigh every day. I just feel that I need the ongoing feedback, and I don't mind that I am up or down half a kilo or so... so long as I can see the general trend.

Just thought id give my little bit of info on the 'TO WEIGH OR NOT TO WEIGH' discussion.

I myself only weigh at the cohens clinic at my 4 week interval appointments.

Those scales are the ones that weighed me at my heaviest of 99.7 and those will be the scales that weigh me at my goal weight!

We have a set of digital scales at home but i dont trust them at all! in fact..ive never trusted scales..theyve ALWAYS been nasty to me.

I also find that only checking my weight every 4 weeks gives me the boost i need for the next four weeks...cos thats when you see losses of more then 1 kilo! :D

Good luck in whatever you decide to do :D

Happy losing everyone xx

Carpe Diem,

I too am a serial weigher, for no other reason than I need to monitor myself constantly and have mental reassurance that what I'm doing is working.

I think it's a personal choice and you have to find what works best for you to keep you on track, motivated and eager to keep at it til goal weight.

The only thing I'd say is we are women, our bodies change constantly, so when you see the scales go up dont' be disheartened, just smile and know you are woman (roar if it makes you feel better lol). However, if you increase every day over a few days then you need to look at what you're doing.

GO GETTEM!

Hello

I am too a serial weigher, but after this next weigh in i'm going to try ans stick to once a month. i will get hubby to hide the scales and go from there, lets hope I don't kill him in the process.

Another challenging Day

Hi All

Another challenging day took the boys to see Walking with Dinosuars it was great. But as usual eveything has to revolve around food. My husband the big kid that he is heads straight for the food stall and buys lollies,drinks,ice-cream (I stuck to a soda water.)

When the show ended we went for a drive and ended up at the bay - more food again chips/chicken nuggets for the boys their last treat before School tomorrow and so forth. I again stuck to sparkling mineral water carried my cracker breads and gum of course.

Temptation is everywhere but it is getting easier to resist I also carried my lunch with to the show and ate it in the car. So planning definitely is the key word.

So any newbies finding cohen's difficult well yes it is - but it is also achievable with a little forward planning.

My husband complimented me on my weight loss and my strong will today so that really gave me a boost.
 And another thing I am now wearing sleevless tops, the last time i went sleevless my son commented on my big arms:(.

So Ladies and Gentlemen out there keep the faith and stick with the plan and will see and feel results in no time.;)

Vitamins and Minerals

Hello! I forgot to take my supplements after lunch again! Sigh. I"m wondering if I should take two doses at once? Can I?

Hubby and I worked out something to ease the weekday evenings' task of cooking dinner and the next day's lunch - we bought almost the weeks' supply of food on Sunday and weighed out whatever portions we can. I'm going to be having chicken every night for the next few nights but I'm not complaining - breaded them schnitzel style and froze them :D yummy!

But the challenging bit is business lunches. I've no problem resisting temptations - I just take in the lovely smells and can be very happy just doing that. I'm just worried about being perceived as being rude for not eating and I don't want to deviate.

Situation No. 1: I'm lunching with my country manager and an industry contact tomorrow. I think I'm going to get up really early, finish breakfast before 6:30am so that I can eat before noon, then tell the truth - I had breakfast too early and was so hungry I had to grab something to eat first :p then I'll just have fruits and tea with the gentlemen. I hope this works.

Situation No. 2: Thursday evening's another business dinner. This time dinner's going to follow from a meeting...and this is with my boss' boss! He has a say in my promotions! Looks like I've to deviate but I'll suggest Japanese so I can have tuna sashimi and a salad.

Come to think of it, is it any wonder I'm as heavy as I am?! Business entertaining is not good for health!

Would anyone like to share strategies for staying the course in spite of such obligations?

It works!

Hey all,
i am very excited and anxious and so scared that it may fail like all my other weightloss fads..... but all your posts are very encouraging.

Hi Tanya! Welcome to the program :) I started on Jan 20 and already my clothes are fitting so much better. In fact, colleagues have noticed that my clothes are handing a bit looser!

It takes a lot of discipline but with the end in mind, the inspirational sharing and support from this forum's members, I've gotten use very quickly to this new lifestyle of weighing, preparing and eating home-cooked food.

I'm just a NewB and haven't started for long so I look forward to losing those extra weight with you :)

Hi there windy Blue

I don't think about how I am perceived by others if I eat my cohens meal when we are out - you're in this for yourself. Would they not promote you according to how you eat or would you have a better chance if they perceived that you have the guts to stand up for what you believe in.

I had a chat with my bosses boss over lunch one day and he was full of praise for the healthy tuna (yes everyone knows I hate tuna- I eat it but) salad and it ended up that healthly eating was something he valued highly. Remember this isn't forever....

Don't undo all your work for other people - eat what it is you want and to hell with anyone who cares what you are doing. Let them eat cake..............

BTW - great work so far - your clothes are telling the difference- well done- look forward to watcching your ticker

Hi WB,
I take all my vitamins in the morning. I try to get once a day vitamins to make things easier, but otherwise I just take the full dose in the morning.

I have at least one business lunch/dinner every week, and they are non-negotiable. I'm the National Sales Manager for my company, and its an expectation that I will have lunches and dinners with people! (actually, it would be more difficult if I were a Sales Rep - they have lunches nearly every day). It would definitely affect my opportunities for promotion/ pay rises etc if I didn't go out. (having said that, being fat really didn't reflect well on me either!!)
If we go out for lunch, I choose a salad with chicken generally, or sometimes calamari. If I go out for dinner, I choose a plain grilled steak, seafood or chicken dish, and again ask for salad, rather than veges, and ask for them not to bring the chips/potato etc that go with the meal. I often try to select restaurants where I can check out the menu first and know that there will be something that I can eat. Or if people are taking me out, I let them know that I'm on a special diet for medical reasons, so they can check out the restaurant and find out whats on the menu.
I drink either still or sparkling water (generally sparkling for evening meals).
My manager is very supportive and very impressed with my weight loss, as are my customers, so I don't need to fight them to choose the right food - just fight my own temptations! One of the advantages to eating out alot is that I'm not so afraid of life after Cohen's. I know I can make the right eating choices, and when I haven't, I know that I don't feel good afterwards.
I know that it slows down my weight loss, but I have had to make the program work with my life - rather than just change my life to fit the program. I have still lost 37kg in 28 weeks, so I cant complain too much! All the business entertaining is another reason that I weigh everyday, so I can quickly tell when I've been overdoing it and change my strategy!
