Thanks!

YM2B/Joanne on our plan we can have 150gm mango, I just cut it of the nut and scoop out of the skin to the 150gm mark, we can have 160gm Kiwi fruit and 180gm honey dew melon and paw paw. Everything else on our list is specified as medium size, hope this helps.
Lauren

Lonniecee. Thanks for the weight portions for the fruit. Very helpful!! Everyone raving about Vaalia yogourt has my curiosity going crazy. If I ever go to the U.S. I'll have to look for it. I eat Astro Biobest yogourt. It's 2% and is 98% lactose free and has probiotic A&B bacteria. We have plenty of plain yogourts to choose from, but the lactose free one is the only one I can really eat without the bloating and cramping--although if I need to empty my bowels, the lactose ones do the trick.

Please let me know what is so wonderful about the Vaalia yogourt-my mouth waters when I hear everyone driving everywhere to locate this yogourt.

Happy portion eating everyone

Joanne

Hello Everyone,

I have been reading all of the posts as I would like to begin Dr. Cohen's diet. I am somewhat confused and would like some input please. I know most of the posts I see are from outside of the US and some of the foods listed are things I don't really eat (kiwi, mangos) are these just more plentyful outside of the US? Or are they daily staples in the diet? I also don't eat yogurt or fish, is that a big deal? It's also kind of funny you all use kilos and I use pounds so I am using a conversion chart to figure things out (should have paid more attention in school). Food measurements are in grams do I need a special food scale?

I have sleep apnea, and low thyroid - does anyone have these and does it change the diet at all?

One more question, there are different threads, and I am new to forums, so is there any advice you can give me, so I can continue with the same people and info?

Thanks so much! When I hear back I will forward my payment and get started, hopefully with as much success as all of you.

Thanks again, Lam

JOOLS - Im sorry I havent resoponded sooner, but I havent had the opportunity to get online until this morning.

I have 11.1kgs to get to my goal weight and 9.1kgs to order refeed. A race would be an awesome idea. It might be just what the Dr ordered. Im flucuating between 73.5 and 72.5 the past few weeks as Im only sticking to Cohens till the afternoon, then I have white chocolate and no other food till the next morning. Great diet huh? NOT! Thats my craving everyday and the worst thing is Im giving in to it. Wonder what great things its doing to my system. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, we are both soooooooooo close to that light at the end of the tunnel and its crazy for me to ignore it.

As of Monday, the race will officially be on. Im working all day today and most of tomorrow and wont get a chance to get my food supplies until tomorrow evening, so will have it all prepared for a clean and fresh start Monday morning.

Thank you so much for the challenge and the incentive to get re motivated. I will look forward to beating your skinny little butt to the finish line. Hehehe!!!!!!!!:p

Take care and look forward to hearing and seeing your weight loss progress.

Hope everyone is having a lighter day.

Cheers,

Regina:)

Hi Lam - welcome to the forum.

I'm assuming that you are from the US? Most of us here are from Australia but there a quite a few from overseas doing the program. Over here ours are done through a clinic and we have appointments either in person or over the phone with our consultants. I believe in the US that you do it via email etc, and the payments and stuff are a little different, but the program itself is pretty much the same.

I guess it is confusing between pounds and kg, but a simple conversion table will do the trick.

In regards to your question re. kiwi/mango, yoghurt and fish, these are just some of the options in the plan. We are given a list of foods that are allowed in certain quantities for each individual, and we can choose what we like from this list. There are other fruits, other options for breakfast and other meat options (or if you're vegetarian, tofu etc).

All foods need to be weighed, so you'll need a good digital scale. I'm not sure what sort you have, but mine i have the option for it to weigh in grams or ounces, so if you have one that does both, you'll be able to get around it that way, or when you get your plan, just convert all the gm measurements into ounces using the weight conversion and write it next to the amount on your program so you don't have to check all the time.

If you scroll up to the top of the page you will see the following in blue:

Weight Loss Forum > Weight Loss Methods > Cohen's Lifestyle

If you click on the 'cohen's lifestyle' it will show you all the threads that are just for Cohens people without having to sift through all the other threads etc on this site. When you click on it add that page to your favourites so that you don't have to find it every time and can just go straight there. Also, when you post in a thread, you are automatically subscribed to that thread so you will receive email notifications when someone posts. If you don't then you can go to your user profile and change the settings.

I hope that helped you out a little bit, and good luck deciding what to do. If you do go ahead with Cohens, it will the best decision you've ever made...good luck. :)

WOW!! Am I blown away!!
Weighed myself Thursday morning when I got up and was surprised to see 59.0kgs on the knocker.
My refeed appointment was at 12.00pm and as I toddled, no make that strode, into the Geelong clinic, I was looking forward to what was ahead. Going through the refeed was interesting and having read others progress on this site made it easier to follow. Having discussed it all and when I need to contact Karen again, she asked what my weight was, how much water was I having (3.5-4.0 litres) and had I been feeling hungry (just the odd fleeting feeling)?

So in a nutshell, I can reduce my water to 2.5 litres (thank you God, I may get a full nights sleep), and it was likely that the hunger would kick in pretty quickly with the decrease so I could start refeed Friday!! What!! Well, to say I was shocked was an understatement cos I was thinking at least another week or 2 until I hit that point. Have to admit, there were a few tears too. This new me, a slim 'attractive' woman, is totally new to me, my husband, my children, my parents, my brothers............you get the picture I'm sure, and, I like her, I really do. I have waited a long time to meet this butterfly, she is certainly well overdue, but she is here and here to stay.

I've decided to wait out the weekend before starting refeed. Yesterday I sat down and planned meals and snacks for the whole 17 days (subject to change as I progress along). I still have another week of annual leave so this will give me a good opportunity to get into the swing of it all without the worry of getting organised for work. I noticed a stirring in the gut as I lay in bed yesterday morning. How I go over the weekend will be a fair indication of where I'm at I feel, rather than diving headlong into it all.

I decided to change my ticker goal to the top of the range as I am happy that this maybe my 'natural weight' and anything below that will be a bonus. I also updated my weight and will continue to over the next 3 weeks or so just as a visual reminder to myself of my progress.

I do hope it isn't wishful thinking but I have cut the water back to 2litres so far today whereas I'm usually somewhere between 3-4 litres by this time. Well, we'll see how it all goes.

Oh, and the broadband gods are smiling on this household I'm hoping, have previously been told that it is unavailable in our street but it would appear they were wrong or just misinformed . Shame on them.

Lauren

Hi Lam,
Just to give you an idea of the types of food you are allowed to eat on the Dr Cohen diet apart from fish, yoghurt, kiwi or mango (which you don't like) are egg, cheese (only certain types). beef, veal, chicken, seafood, different types of fruit (orange, apples etc ) and different types of vegies and crispbreads - all eating plans are different but the foods are mainly the same just different measurements.

One more question, there are different threads, and I am new to forums, so is there any advice you can give me, so I can continue with the same people and info?
If you choose to do this and I really think you should as this is the only diet that has worked for me with such great results in such a short period of time, then you would just continue to post in here...the majority of people that post in here are on the Cohen's diet and let me tell you the support, inspirational and motivation you get from all these fellow Cohenites is amazing.
Good Luck!

Minny & Annie,

Thank you for the info, I am going to send in my payment today! While I wait for blood testing results and diet, I will prepare... digital food scale, measurements and weight chart, positive attitude!!

All of you are so inspirational; I am looking forward to losing the weight and feeling healthy again. It has been a tough couple of years, medically and emotionally.

Yes, I am from the US (Massachusetts) and some of your spellings and terminology is a little different (ticker? = weight scale) but I know the positive reinforcement and genuine good will is the same.

Thanks again,
Lori (Lam)

Congratulations Lauren, that's wonderful. I'm so pleased for you. Can't wait to see the updated photos??????

Congratulations to you too Lori...you've made the best decision...something you will never regret. Good luck!!!

Hi everyone,
Well after my disaster of an easter..I managed to still lose 5.9 kilos for the month so I am really happy. And like you Lauren I have ad my water intake tapered down to 3.5 litres so that was a good thing too. 5 more kilos to the 70's I cant even remember when I was that thin...it is all so new, its hard to see myself as thin as some friends now. I'm sure I will get my head around it after ALOT of clothes shopping.

To Lam

Hey Lam,

I am also from the US ... and I read and participate at this board and the one we have in the US... I learn and gain so, so much from here.

I started my diet Nov 13th...right before Thanksgiving and Christmas... I have lost 70 lbs...and still have more to go!

You can check out the US board at:

Denise-Excoboard.com

Everyone....regarless of the our country.....gets their diet with your weights in grams. We have to measure our food before cooking -"in grams".... so you need a good scale. but all scales offer both measurements.

Your Personal Guide will list the fruits, meats, fish that you are allowed. I hardly do yogurt...as I prefer to have an egg for breakfast..

Cheese..you can have mozzarela, ricotta or fat free cottage cheese... some can have fat free cream cheese. (Once a day)

Fish..you can tilapia, crab, shrimp & a few others types for example...but no flounder or scallops.

Fruit, you can also have apple, orange, peach... I like to have apple, orange and mango..maybe come summer I will enjoy peaches and honedew melon..(the only melon I can have).

No oils, no condiments...like mustard, ketchup, etc... we can 1 tsp a day of light mayo. But again, its amazing what you can make with the foods and herbs that we are allowed. Its fun.

What happens on this diet...besides a major weight loss...is your taste and eating habits change. You may find that you love mangoes... I always like them..hardly ate them - but now I have them everyday. Your eating habits and foods choices change dramatically. Very controlled diet... strict list of acceptable foods...no ifs, ands, or buts.

As far as sleep apnea... it has no affect on the diet...but the diet will probably help with that, as you lose the weight. Low thyroid...you are probably on medication to regulate that... which means you are then at a normal level with medication... the diet will work then! One of the girls in the US just posted last week that her doctor is taking her off of her thyroid med...as she is "better"

Sign up and do it! ..You'll be so glad you did... We all do it online in the US..once you get use to it...it becomes automatic and its easy.

Lori Great decision to begin the program. I have been to the US 3 times & find the food & terminology very different. Something in Aust.-crackers for eg. can be quite different in the US. I hope we Aussies can extend you the friendly welcome that I encountered on my trips & I look forward to reading your posts.
Lauren Congratulations! What a wonderful achievement. I really enjoyed sharing your good news. I am so looking forward to re-feed. Well done!!
Weigh-in & blood test for me tomorrow (12 weeks) Fingers crossed for 87 kg or less which would be half way for me. Will include my ticker today as I will up-date it tomorrow, xo Cate

Hi guys, eveyone's doing so great.

I'm just wondering does anyone here see a counsellor too in regard to weight loss or being overweight? If you dont' want to say please message me. I'm interested in this path.

I swear I have two personalities.. the one that's all eager, keen, raring to go and diligent to the last gram and she is dominant for a fortnight at a time, then the binge eating pig takes over no amount of anything stops her sticking crap in her mouth and almost deliberately sabotaging herself.

I'm a mental wreck and I know I need counselling.

There it's out there.. I can't hide any more.

I'm so glad I have this forum.

Hi to all ---again

Well, its been a few mnths since i was last here and for many reasons. Nothing to do with my weight or the diet just had everything in my life go in a complete different direction.
1) I met a man who i wasnt sure if it wld go anywhere
2) I gave him a chance- that chance paid off
3) On Nov 17th, 2006, i officially got engaged after he asked my dad
4)My previous knee reconstruction begun to fail and after many trips to the surgeon and a MRI scan, it confirmed it had completely gone to the pack and wld require a repeat.
5) My fiance found out he got into the army and went off to basic training on Feb 12th. But, he missed first valentines, our birthdays 20th and 23rd Feb, and i had knee recon after he left on the 21st Feb. Missed cos away not memory.
6) Surgery was complete agony and later reason was a blood clot and haematoma was forming so March 14th (in laws 50th bthday) and had it removed.

Matt is still away. Im slowly recovering and just starting rehab. I was off diet for 6.5wks cos of surgeries but i put on .7kg so not even 1kg. I ate relatively healthy but i did eat stuff i wasnt meant to. Im stoked. Im back on the diet and at 76.2kg. Ive uptd the water and i am hoping to be at 70kg before my mans March out parade when finished training. He is going to iraq but when no idea. This hopefully wont get in the way of staying healthy and weight loss. We revised the weight loss goal from 61kg to 65. SO i have 8kg before i can start refeed. Well, i hope all are staying on trak and not kiking self too much for slip ups. U will slip- i do! But just get back on trak and get on with the job ahead. Easy for some harder for others. Head high and push toward goal.

Talk a lil more often hopefully.

Dee
