Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Wow thanks for the insight bec :) i will endevour to ALWAYS eat a pice of cheese 30 mins before drinking! lol but yes its scary i was actually talking to my friends today and they were telling me how much drinkign they have planned when i am back in the 'real world' so to speak...ahhh!!!
Ive also spoken to my gym (gotta love 'curves' :p) and im starting the gym again the day i get off refeed so im back into the swing of things excersise wise (i found i had to stop the gym as i would get really sick/nauseous)
woah thats a bit daunting about the sugar levels yes definately a good idea to get back on cohens so you can sort out those bloody hormones :)

hope everyone esle is doing well! i had my first taste of coffee with milk today and guess what I DIDNT LIKE IT! and it didnt like me either!! i think i will be sticking to short blacks and expressos from now! the milk made my tummy go funny too - I rememeber my sister in law telling me once that humans arent made to drink milk, that its not in our composition or something like that (shes lactose intolorant)...well today..,i believe her!!!

hope everyones going well!
happy losing xx

Welcome Back Mermaid Sister :)

I know exactly how hard it is to get back on. I had a lapse of about 2 months. While I didnt go crazy with the eating it was not cohens and I did maintain my weight or even lost a little. But I hear you with the alcohol. The insulin just goes through the roof. I will have to try the cheese thing when I finish. :)

Stick at it girl. You can do this thing. Remember when you started for the first time. Go back to that place and get your determination back. You will get there!!!

hi losers:D

I know this has been a topic of much discussion, but im in need of some advice. Im feeling very "blocked up"...if you know what i mean. I have been taking metamucil every day (the maximum dose) for a week, and ive been eating spinach everyday for about a month. And i still cant pass! Its becoming uncomfortoble, and i spent the weekend sitting on the urge to go...but nothing going! lol. Sorry for the visuals!

Anybody got any tricks or tips up there sleeve they are willing to share? Im really concerned that even with the metamucil (which has psyllim (?) in it), i still cant pass. Whats going to happen when bread comes back on the refeed?! Ive had the bowel dramas since i started Cohens, but its never been this bad and ive never had to take anything for it...it all came in due time - i was going say twice a week. Now, its once a week on average and when i do go its a BIG STRUGGLE. Im scared im going to give myself piles! lol! Again, Sorry for the mental scarring folks.

Anybody gone through something similar?

Hiya Lexie...

Yeah, I'm going through a similar thing. I eat Spinach every night, and I make sure I have a BIG glass of warm/hot water every morning when i get up, even if breaky is half an our off. This works to some degree, but at the moment i'm still feeling a little blocked. I've gone and bought myself some Laxette but haven't had one yet as i wanted to check it was okay first. In my program it says i can use a laxative as long as it doesn't contain fruit extracts and as far as I can tell, this one doesn't. The other reason i haven't taken it yet is because i've had things on yesterday and today and i didn't want to take it as i don't know how it would effect me, so i was planning on taking it tonight, coz i'm home all day tomorrow...just in case...lol.

So i know how you're feeling, but if you look back through the threads on the main Cohens page, there is a thread in there somewhere about this sort of stuff...i think it was titled "pooing rocks!". Hope that helps and you get some sort of relief...

PS..LOVE THOSE VISUALS....lol.

Hi All,

Well Ive actually been a member of Cohens since the beginning of Dec 2006 - I dont know what the hell I was thinking joining before Christmas and New Years! I went great for about 3 weeks and lost 10kg but then Xmas and NY's hit and I slowly went downhill from there. I put back on about 8kg over about 3 months so im lighter still then when I originally started but not much better! I also started a new job that requires me to work shifts and 10 hour days so I was trying to adjust to that and basically left the progam - UNTIL NOW! :)

I started back up about a week ago when I finally got myself sorted and motivated again. My motivation is that I have a holiday planned at christmas to the USA to vist my very hot, skinny, good looking, model, best mate and we are going to the Caribbean for NY's and there is no way im lying on the beach next to her if im not 40kg lighter!

I have a quick question - does anyone have any suggestions/ideas for breakfast??!! I ate yohgurt so much to the point that I cant eat it now cause it makes me feel sick in the stomach and I dont want to eat an egg every day.... any ideas would be brilliant!!

Any hoo thought I'd say G'day and introduce myself.

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress! :)

Cheers
Vanessa

Hi Lexi07 and mini

I read somewhere a while ago that if you eat the skin of a kiwi fruit (not all, just a lttle bit) then that helps. Havent tried as havent had any problems. Might be worth a shot. Good luck

Welcome Vanessa.

40kg will fall off in no time. Just stick with the program, dont deviate and you will be there well and truly for christmas. Good luck

Deviation and Poo'ing rocks

Cate - I think you've got the approach right. Order a steak but approximate what you eat to your portion; skip the sauce; and just eat the salad. Enjoy your diet soda and have a great time! Grilled fish or chicken is also a nice option. I found that when I ate sashimi (jap raw fish), even if I ate the fatty fish option, I didn't put on much :p

Forget about bringing your own balsamic vinegar. One meal deviated normally takes me 2-3 days to get back on track but like lessfatty once said, as sure as the sun will rise in the east, I will lose those kgs once I'm back on the program :) And that's how we harmonise being on Cohen's and real life!

On constipation - It is an occasional issue for me but when it happens, I always feel down in the pits. What I do to address the problem:
1. Take Lactulose if I haven't gone for 3 days
2. Baby spinach and arugula salad at least one meal a day
3. Don't have mushrooms as the sole vegetable option for the day
4. Minimize cheese intake because that causes constipation
5. Drink minimum of 3 liters of water per day - this really affects my system
6. Take a fish oil capsule twice a day

I'm worried about the refeed period too but I'm going to arm myself with salad, water, and lactulose and hope for the best

thanks for asking that question Lexie... I find a cuppa just after dinner helps me too.

How much water do you drink? I aim for about 3.5 litres a day but not sure if that's over the top or just about right.

Well it's been an up and down week for me but I'm doing well and slowly but surely it'll all come off... I love reading everyone's posts.

Thanks for the reminder on that other posting Minnie...i got some good tips off that one :p

My water in-take is pretty high Ichooselife, on an average day ill drink 4.5L...but i am known to knock back up to 6L on some days. Today im already up to 3.5, so i think its gonna be a big water day today. My consultant mentioned when i started the program that for each 30kg you weigh, you should drink 1Litre of water....so im well and truly flooding my system lol!

But yeah, im very concerned about the bowel thing (especially with refeed looming!), i had to administer Microlax on myself the other day and even with that it took 2 days to move things. Im gonna try and eat a full-spinach veg dinner tonight, see if that helps things for the moment. But im going to try the Slimmers Tea (mentioned in the other post) and see if that can pull me through :D

Breakfast Option

Hi All,
I have a quick question - does anyone have any suggestions/ideas for breakfast??!! I ate yohgurt so much to the point that I cant eat it now cause it makes me feel sick in the stomach and I dont want to eat an egg every day.... any ideas would be brilliant!!

Hi Vanessa, If your digestive system works fine, try this - chop up shitake and button mushrooms, stuff them into muffin baking trays, top them with your allowance of mozarella cheese, and grill for about 10 to 12 minutes. No seasoning required because the cheese is a bit salty. When I get really bored of yoghurt and have no cause of concern for constipation, I love this!

Choice

Is Lactulose an approved one? I thought it was sugar-based???

I don't think it's approved but between a dose of lactulose to move my bowel and constitpation, guess which I'd choose? :p Anyway, I'll lose whatever grams I gained from the sugar after I get rid of the waste in me and life is back to being smooth again :D

Hi everyone,

Well i have been naughty i had some chocolate today now i feel bad i have been having cravings for chocolate does anyone know why? I cant get on to my consultant they are not answering.

HELP WHAT DO I DO/

On the movement issue do you get constipated further into your diet at the moment i am regular and go every morning.

Are you taking a multivit Ezzy? Chocolate contains magnesium, which helps calm us down and the likes.... I caved in and had a square of choc last night.. it was that or bite my husband's head off. I then washed it down with about a litre of water lol

I'd drink lots of water, get on a good multivit, and remember tomorrow is a new day :)

I have always had a problem with constipation & had been warned by my consultant to be careful. She had suggested having an apple a day(keeps the doctor away!) but apples made me too hungry. What I have been doing is having a heaped teaspoon of Metamucil powder(Lemon/Lime) in water 1st thing every morning with my vitamins( have taken 1000mg capsule of Omega 3 Fish oil daily for years-+others) before I eat my breakfast. This makes me go after breakfast & always works. I drink 3-4 litres of water every day. Not sure which is doing the trick really, so won't stop any of them.
ezzy- On any given day almost all of us would crave something. I cannot look at a glass of red wine on tv without thinking, "mmm that looks nice".
Try to think why you want to lose weight. From day 1 in this forum I have taken a saying & changed it around & if I am ever thinking" ooh that looks nice" I just say to myself-
Nothing tastes as good as being slim will feel.
I picture how I want to look & that gets me through. You have to really be ready, really, really want to become slim & then be prepared to stick with what's required to get there. If you're not ready it would be way too hard.
Is it your TOM-that may be why you are craving sweet things? Do you have your cut up fruit portion handy that you can spread out during the day. I make a fruit salad of mango, honey dew melon & kiwi fruit (all weighed & the equivalent of 2 fruit) & I have a spoon with in it in the fridge & make it last during the day. This satisfies the sweet thing for me. I love mangoes now & am dreading when they go out of season.
Ezzy, I hope you can stick with it. Know that there's lots of support in here. Cheers, Cate

Um.....can't remember who posted about the kiwi fruit skin, but that is also another one i do.

At first i thought there was no way that I could eat the skin, but i gave it a shot and it wasn't so bad. I don't even peel them anymore. I have 2 a week but this week there was only crappy oranges and no nectarines etc as my second fruit option (first one apples) except for kiwi's so i'm having kiwi's every day this week.

And on the water front - my booklet from my clinci says 1 litre of water per 25kg of body weight. I'm having a min of 4ltrs at the moment, but most days it is around the 5ltr mark....

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Ezzy- I just had a look at the "More allowed foods" thread & in there KristyB has a copy of her last email from her consultant. In this it mentions Chromium for sugar cravings as it helps to balance sugar levels. Check to see if your multi-vitamin has it. I had been advised by my consultant to take the Blackmores slow release multi-vitamins.

chooslife -yes i am taking multivitims choc is the only deviation i have had. Have been drinking lots of water but i feel a bit yuk now suppose i deserve it ha:mad: I will hold my head up at least i have not gone off the wagon totally.

Cate-
Yes i am ready to loose weight i have been on program 6 weeks now and this week is the first time i have felt like something else i am not giving up because i was so sick for the first ten days of the program i stuck that out so i will stick with it not going to waste 6 weeks.

I just eat my fruit 1 piece at a time i hate mangos how many kiwi fruits can you have? I am really ready to loose weight and i have a time i need to be skinny the start of july i have a conference in sydney for work i want to look good for that.:)

Ezzy - another thing that may be helpful to you that my consultant recommended is the Blackmores 'Sugar Balance'. I haven't had to use it myself because i'm not getting any cravings, but she said that it is a great one for overcoming the chocolate craving (which being a chocoholic she thought i might need to get through).

Keep up your great work.

Keeping weight off

Hi Sam thanks for your advice about the mince. I see you have finished cohens how much did you loose and have you kept the weight off.

Hi Ezzy:D

I lost a total of 15+kg and yes I have managed to maintain it so far. I have decided to stick with the forum for a bit just to keep me focused and not to fall into bad habits again (which we all know can so easily happen). I am weighing in each Friday, but was unable to do so last Friday due to having the flu - but will do so tomorrow.

This forum is a wonderful for place to keep you focused and the people here are so wonderful with their advice and caring attitude.:)

I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss and before you know it you will be fitting into all those skinny clothes:p :D.

How much are you aiming to lose? and when did you start Cohens?

atb
Sam:)
