I'm now in Bali and feeling a bit miserable. Husband's here for work; I tagged along for a break. My consultant gave me some tips on guesstimating my food portions but I realized there's more to it than ordering veg and a protein from the menu.

For example, for lunch today I ordered a grilled baby snapper without the accompanying potatoes and with double the portions of vegetable and salad. The fish came with a garlic oil sauce and stir-fried carrots and french beans...both off-limits on Cohens!!! And it didn't strike me until a few mouthful of beans and carrots

I hunted around a bit this morning and found some restaurants with potential salad options and a couple of japanese places I can dine at. However, does anyone else have any other tips?
With every meal, I imagine the weight lost with so much effort creeping back. I think I'm getting obsessive but believe me, I'm so totally not enjoying these forced deviations. :(

.

Hi,
I've just returned from 2 weeks in Europe, in the freezing cold at business events for lunch and dinner! So, my tips are
  • try to order salad rather than vegetables - much more likely to be approved food
  • carrots and beans are better than potatoes and bread- its all relative. If you cant get the veges you need, then still eat veges rather than getting hungry and eating bread!
  • watch your portion sizes. Make sure you don't start eating until you are hungry, because then your "full" signals are also much stronger. Stop when you are full.
  • Try doing some exercise to compensate for the additional food you are eating.
  • Remember that its only for 1 or 2 weeks. If you think its a total disaster, then you will feel justified in consuming a bottle of wine and 6 desserts. If you feel that you are doing your best in a difficult situation, its easier to maintain focus and choose the foods that will be best for you.

Hi Char

Gee your goal BMI seems low - is your goal weight the one set by cohens or are you hoping to go lower????

Well done on the 6.8kgs in 4 weeks - that's great..

After a few days back on Cohen tell us how big an impact it had on your progress. For me 2 weeks in Europe didnt cause any weight gain, actually 3 days after I was back on Cohen I was 1KG less than before I left for Europe (whilst I would have lost 3 had I stayed home and ate Cohen).

Yep Sharon you are right. BMI between 20-25 is considered normal and healthy.

I'm weighing myself daily now as I'm so anxious about getting to my goal and I'm not sure when I should begin refeed (which I have at home hidden away). Do I wait until I get to 57kgs or do I start at 59 or 58kgs?

I'm scared about this journey ending and losing my way and packing the weight back on.

Irene

your right

Hey Losing: you are right I had my bmi set to english which is in feet and inches  silly me ah well not far off being in the healthy range though.

To the people enquiring about Chai tea i asked my consultant about it today as well and she said No to having it, I havent had it on cohens but I have had it before and it is nice though!!
Well Having struggled in the past 4 weeks I have reset my goals and asked my husband to give me more help. As he does split shifts its not until he goes to work in the arvo that I start feeling like other foods and I tell you the mind struggle is amazing and yes I have deviated!! My husband told me not to buy him and our daughter any chocs chips etc in the shopping (OMG how good is that) very nice of him coz he and our daughter love choccies and 2 I am going to set myself smaller goals, I usually set monthly goals but now I am going to set weekly to goals so that i can get through the week without deviating, I am going to write them down and organize them so then if i deviate I have to ring up and cancel etc!!! Fingers crossed this is going to work for me because I really want to finish this cohens and be a healthy person. My husband is also going to text me every now and then to make sure I am not getting into anything and I am positive by the end of next week I will be back into it and not missing those bad foods, and by the end of the 4 weeks I will be in my 70's which I dont even remember being in that weight range at high school and that was over 15 years ago:eek:
Anyway thought I would blurt out the stuff on my mind, I feel great since going to my consultant who I must say is a very wonderful caring and supportive lady and my thanks go out to her for her continued support.
ok ok I am going now LOL
everyone keep posting I love reading them and it takes my mind off other things.
chow for now :)

Hey fatty (Tanya)

I think that I finally have this forum thing under control???

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

good on ya. it is a great place to come. didnt want to log on today as i just ate heaps of maltesers. those bloomin fundraising chocolates. no one to blame but myself. so angry at myself.

my first weigh in next weds and i cant wait for it to be over. thinking i have done okay. will be happy if i lose 8kg. disappointed if i dont. but 10 would be ecstatic:D

good to hear you all sticking to it unlike lard ass me!!:(

Lose on friends!!

Tanya:(

Hi char,
I am exactly the same. the minute i am at home alone with the kids, if they want junk, i want junk. that is why those terrible fundraiser chocolates were my downfall. anyhow. gotta jump back on the wagon. i weight myself every few days at home. it motivates me. so this morning i had lost 8kg but probably put one back on with taht junk!!! is it unrealistic to hope for 10kg by weds??

anyhow. know how you feel char. lets work with each other and tally how long we can go without deviating???

lose on...

tanya

Heyfatty: U can sooo reach the 10 kilos by wednesday as long as u stay focused. When I deviated and then got back on the wagon i lost 4.5 kilos in 5 days I was quite shocked, so stick with it and u will reach it. I weigh everyday LOL:D some people say its not good too but I like too and if I havent lost anything I am not too fazed where as some people freak out, like my friend who is also on cohens. I need to get to the end of refeed so I need to refocus as my lovely wonderful dad paid for my cohens and he told me that if i dont do it to the end I have to pay him the money back nothing like tough love hey!! And I AINT paying back the money LOL I still might give him half coz I am such a lovely daughter to him LOL.
Anyways Stick with coz the more u deviate the harder it is (believe me I know) U CAN DO IT!!!!!!:D Sorry hope it didnt carry on too much!!

Char

Heyfatty I just noticed we both have about 20 kilos to lose so good idea!!! Good idea to see who can stick with it longest, which I know we both will coz we wanna be hot sexy mummas LOL:D

Char

Isparkle OMG that is so great to have your refeed!! Only you know wen the time is right, if you are happy with your body now then do the refeed if not wait a little bit longer. I am sure u will make the right desicion. And if you stay focused on ur refeed and after I think you will handle it well (you got this far didnt u)!!
Anyway all the best hope it all goes well for u

Thankius

HeavenlyLamb - I really appreciate the tips! I'll bear them in mind. In fact, I'll put in a few laps in the pool in the morning. Will try very hard to keep to portions. At least I'm not mixing proteins and trying to follow according to my meal guidelines.

HeyFatty You are so strong not to deviate in the face of chocolate and smarties! My husband couldn't resist two bites of chocolate cake on the flight here even when I nearly popped my eyes glaring at him...

I'm staying in the Nusa Dua area. First time here and I really like Bali. Local food is excellent - especially the grilled chicken breast, even when it's without skin and with chilli sauce scrapped off! However, because food can't be the highlight of my trip unlike pre-Cohens time, the most fun I've had since I arrived was the silver smithing lesson I took today - made two rings and a bangle all for about US$30. I've been traveling around alone and found a very good guide and driver who charges reasonably. Let me know if you need the contact.

Hi LF,

Well, I haven't had a chance to do a grocery shop since I came home. So, I've had 3 lunches out and 2 dinners! But I'm now back to 78.5 which is the weight I was when I left. So, it took 4 days to get back down to what I was previously.
My first day back, I weighed 81.5 (YIKES! that was a shock! but even flying business class, I swell up!) Second day 80kg , third day 79.5kg and today 78.5. I think that once I can get organised with some salad things and veges then it should go down even faster.

I think I was prepared psychologically for coming back and going strict again, and I was SOO ready to eat less and feel better. So, apart from not being organised, I'm feeling pretty good about being back on the plan again. I guess I travel and eat out so regularly that I don't find it so hard getting back on the wagon again.

Hey Fatty,

Keep going Tanya and forget about yesterday or the day before and get back on. Let me know how you do with your weigh in.

Kids had a swimming carnival today and the hot chips smelt so good, but I was good and ate my crackers and came home to a salad. It is getting hard and a bit boring so I have to go back on the net and get some more recipes to liven things up again.

Stay strong

Rachel

Hi everyone,
just into my second week, had a loss of 4.5 and 19.5 cm in the first week. However have had no deviations at all, drunk all my water had 3 walks and the last 3 days have remained the same weight. I think its something to so with the fact that I am a bit constipated. Would this be why and has anyone any ideas as to what the answer to this problem is? I have bought pysillium husks today. Is Metamucil allowed, I have some sugarfree and it doesn't seem to have any nasties in it!!.
Thanks for your help....

Welcome back on the Cohen wagon. When I got back from the holiday it was hard, but not too hard to get back on the wagon, but getting back on after I was sick was really hard.

Always a shock on the scales after a flight!!!! I think the sitting, drinking, the low air pressure makes for some fluid retention.

With the Cohen diet there seems to be a little to much pushing of the "deviation = disaster" idea; eat a mini-tomato, a green bean or 10grams more of chicken or a salad that wasn't weighed or the wrong dressing and 1 week of weight loss with be forfeit. This is in my opinion a little bit of a nonsense. Whilst I believe that strictly following Cohen will get you from A to B, Fat to Thin in the shortest possible manner, I also believe controlled deviations are not as bad as presented. The more we deviate the less weight we lose a simple as that, its a sliding scale, rather than a black or white. Key point I suppose is not to give ourselves permission to deviate just because we feel like some "x" or we deserve a taste of "y". Yet when we cannot prepare Cohen meals such as business trips it is OK to just do our best to fit the plan as much as we can without getting panicky about it. It is just a matter of fact that as a result we will need to be on the plan longer than minimum time.

how's it going babyegg?

Hello All,

I have to admit that I fell off the wagon and it was a terrible fall... I hope i am not going to be reprimanded by all in here.. i am feeling bad enough... I am going back on the wagon today and I am sure I can... I am sure some of you would start to scold me.. i know its for my own good... Dun worry i am going to be back on the program today and going to lose the extra kgs that I gained over the last few days... Please give me some encouragement....

Hi babyegg,

don't fret over it anymore. Move on with the Cohen program. I think it is rather commendable to share your confession with us here and try to resolve to move on with the program. Keeping to Cohen is really tough but you will feel victorious once you have a day free of deviations. So aim towards it - to achieve one day of no deviation, followed by 2nd, 3rd, 4th day.

I hope you are back on the bandwagon now. No matter what, pls persevere ok? Stash away all CNY goodies and try to work your brain to say no...

Keep us updated here... this channel will help you vent your difficulties and keep you going on...Go for it!

Life after refeed (I)

Dear all!

The CNY celebrations are over and all that feasting is almost done...

Anyway, I finished my refeed last Thurs, 15 Feb. Funnily enough, even though I didn't eat all my carbs but I ate all my proteins, I was gaining weight in grams. I also had a major problem of constipation so I increased my fruit intake to the full 4 servings. I thought I could rely on just the 2 servings of bad fruits but I realized that I needed 4 servings to move my bowels.

So on Friday, 16 Feb, I begun my rounds of normal eating. Strangely, I was not used to normal eating so I had yogurt and fruit for breakfast, the usual pre-refeed stuff for lunch and for dinner, I had a Chicken breast subway sandwich. And cos I had bread, that caused bloatedness in my stomach. I also ate dumplings (also known as tang yuan) for dessert. When I weighed myself the next morning, i actually lost 100g! Ha ha...

Then came Sat... as usual, had my yogurt brekky. And for lunch, it was my first time eating at a restaurant. And because I have not been buying my meals outside for a looong time, I didn't know the system of ordering in the restaurant! it was so funny... Luckily, I had my family to update me about the system of ordering and the types of food offered at the place. So for lunch, I ordered a chicken salad, with thousand island dressing separated. And for dinner, I totally broke free because it was the chinese reunion dinner. And boy did I suffer a lot from that. I had very bad indigestion. It was so bad that I felt my stomach was choked up. I wanted to vomit the food out but I couldn't. In the end, I took some indigestion tablets.

And on Sun, when I weighed myself, I gained 1.5 kg. I was stumped at the weight increase so i told myself to work it off through exercise. So on Sunday, I did my rounds of visiting, ate, feasted and then on monday, i weighed myself, I gained another 200g.

Monday was another round of feasting and on Tues morn, I gained another 400g.

And on Tuesday, I ate the cohen meals, snacked on goodies and I had another great dinner. This time, I minded carefully what I ate because I didn't want to have indigestion and i didn't want to gain so much weight. But on Wed, when I weighed myself, I gained another 2 kg! I was completely stumped...

So right now, I think the challenge for me is to stabilise my eating habits. I definitely want to lose the 4 kg I had gained over CNY. But on the other hand, I still do not know what food will make me put on weight. In fact, I am totally confused about what I can eat now.

Let me share with you what I'm doing now... i'm actually afraid of eating outside food now. So i'm actually sticking to the pre-refeed food of cohen, not eating rice or bread, eating 4 servings of fruits, having my 10 crackers. I do deviate by eating some CNY goodies. So far, I have lost 600g over 2 days.

honestly, I'm very very confused about what to eat after refeed. Would anybody like to guide me on this? i'm actually very afraid to eat outside food now because the food that is for sale outside in spore is quite unhealthy. I'm scared of carbs because I have been reading that carbs will make you put on weight and having eaten the bread last time, I feel so bloated after eating bread. So honestly, I am very confused about what I can eat after refeed, especially when spore eateries sell mosting chinese food which is not free from oil.

I'm going to try very hard to lose the 4 kg I gained over CNY. Then I will be 65kg.. and then my next target will be to reach 63kg. I can't stand the 4 kg I put on. Everytime I look at myself in the mirror, I feel that i'm such a fat slob... Yucks...

that's bascially the downside to life after refeed. Someone, pls help me to stabilise my eating habits!
