sorry......................cant work out how to cut and paste my new ticker????????? can someone help please

I don't want to go back to my old eating habits. I want to continue doing Cohen's.

I see everyone doing so well, I am so jealous of those who have iron willpower. LOL. If there are any of you who have fallen off the wagon previously and were able to get back on and keep going, any words of wisdom would really help.

Do you want some tough love? Or understanding? Here is both; you choose, please ignore which one you wish.

-----Tough Love Start -----

soon2b145, you are or where 100lbs (45KG) overweight, that means in fact you are very obese!! You are at simply are a fatty; you will be treated worse by people who think being fat is a sign of lower intelligence, you look fat even in clothes that hide your body! you will have the heath risks of being fat! you can choose to stay that way or you can choose another way!

Begin fat was a result of (unconscious) choices you made and make each and every day! You got fat by you choice of foods, foods that made you fat! It is the absolute truth that all that is separating the fat you from the thin you is a few Cohen meals, this is also a choice in foods, a choice to reverse the mistakes of the past, not continue them! The choice is yours, you know what you need to do, it is not that hard to prepare and eat Cohen meals, you have just got to do it and keep doing it!

- Your alias is "soon to be 145lbs" right? Is that a wish to be 145lbs or a commitment to be 145lbs? If you are deviating it means that you have just a wish not a commitment, you need to be commited to yourself to stop yourself deviating. If a Dr told you that you that for some strange reason for the next 12 weeks that you would drop dead instantly due to extreme allergy caused by ingesting popcorn or chocolate would you eat some then?

- If you are hungry sometimes - tough, live with it! Feeling starving before meals - So what! That means your body is burning fat! Don't go into the kitchen at those times you feel tempted! Eat your crackers and/or fruit before cooking for others!
----- Tough Love End ----

----- Understanding Start -----

Reading for many months on this forum it seems that most people experience some regular level of hunger on this diet I think it is normal. Your body only burns fat as a last resort (or second last, last resort is to burn muscle), you need to feel hungry at times. Whem you feel hungry think of that these are "hungry bugs" which are eating your fat!

However some unlucky folk feel really hungry or feel light headed and tired all the time (low sugar), these people really struggle with being on the diet. Many of these people give up the diet. I always feel that somehow Dr Cohen team of consultants fails to help these people. The consultants always have a long list of potential causes, "deviations", "apples", "coffee", "wrong vitamins", "essential oils", "exercise" , "eat fruit and crackers at separate times".

If you have identified which certain times (of the month) that you feel really hungry, can you talk/email with your consultant about it? It is my personal feeling that rather than falling off the wagon completely and saying "cohen is not right for me and my body" at those starving times I think that you could try to eat extra amounts eg 50% more of the Cohen foods such as meat vegetables and yogurt. Being starving hungry for long periods each day, not just the hour before meals, then I 100% believe it is better to eat more food (extra meat, vegetables etc in a controlled way (pre-decided) that have your resolve eroded to the point of falling off the wagon. Its like feeling freezing cold, we can all feel cold a little bit each day it wont hurt us maybe do us some good, but if we are always feeling cold day and night 24*7, it doesnt matter how commited we are; we will break our commitment and start seeking warmth.

For dinner I try to eat the steak meal with lots of fresh vegetables, the fruit and crackers all at the same time, normally I dont feel hungry afterwards.

G'day all,

Happy wedding anniversary Hotmama!!:)

soon2b145- will power got you through the first week when your pumped up, excited, motivated and all that stuff but after that the mind games start to set in and you are tired and hungery ect. Not quite sure where I am going with this but I just wanted to let you know that you dont stand alone.:) Thats why at this very moment I am on here. I am in my 2nd week and I feel starving and tired and very tempted to eat the rest of my sons lunch he has left but I will throw it away when I am done here. They say that a craving ( if you can distract yourself and not think about it ) only lasts a few seconds. I go outside and have a glass of water and a cracker or something and I find that helps alot.:) Try reading Dr Phills The Ultimate Weight Solution it is helpful:)

STAY STRONG WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!

All I can say about that time of the month and all the lovely side effects is damn Eve if it wasnt for her and that silly apple:mad:

Hi soon2b145
Re: Lessfatty's understanding reply above.
I have to agree that eating more of the allowed food has to be a better choice than eating the 'wrong' food. I would not include crackers in this as more of them would be treated as carbs by your body. Same with fruit as that's too much sugar. It's really important not to throw your hormone balance out of whack. I'm sure it's because of this happening that people find it really hard to get back on the program once they go off it.
I would also like to say, though, that when I was on the program I was rarely hungry unless I waited too long between meals. There were times when I wanted to eat, but I couldn't honestly say it was hunger. When I got down to significant weights (eg the weight I was when I gave up smoking) or weights that my body had stayed at for a long time in the past, I tended to get stuck for a little while. I also sometimes got emotional, almost as if there were emotions trapped in the fat! Sounds wierd I know but it seemed that way to me.
I also agree with you lessfatty about the consultants letting people down who struggle with aspects of Cohen's. It is a rigourous and demanding program and they do tend to look for excuses when people ask for help. I also think that many of the consultants are inexperienced as I have received conflicting advice on several occasions.
Having said all that I also would like to support your tough love reply. In the end we can only do it for ourselves. None of us will starve if we stick to the program. It's important to find other ways to satisfy yourself other than eating (which is what got us into this in the first place!). Could you find another answer to the hunger that makes you feel good but doesn't involve food? Maybe hire a funny movie or something.
Good luck soon2b145. I'll shut up and leave you alone now!

Hi all, :D
thanks for the "tough love". You guys are soo right. I just need to suck it up and do Cohens. Its not that hard. Also, I've been thinking about my day and realized I wasn't staaarving, I was craaaving. Big difference.

Waterlilly, I didnt think it was weird at all when you said that losing weight sometimes makes you emotional. I was thinking the same thing about myself but was too embarassed to admit it. Everytime I get right around 215/210, I subconsciously cant handle it, and start to pack the pounds on again.

Winnie, I can definitely relate. But don't give in like I did, just keep on the program. The less we deviate, the quicker we can do our refeed. Can't wait!

Lessfatty, thanks for being tough on me. I needed to hear that. ;) You are so right, I do have a choice, I can continue doing my thing, being miserable and unhealthy. No thanks, I'd rather watch everyone eat my favorite foods for the rest of my life, then to continue down the route I was heading.
Its nice to know that people are caring enough to take time out of their day and respond to my woe is me's moments.LOL:p I think this is going to be all the difference between this time and last time I was on Cohen's. I gave up because I had no support, no feedback, and no one to relate to. FYI, I'm in the US and there are no clinics, and people that follow the program are unheard of, except on this board.

Surviving Bali!!!

Hello, well done everyone who's managed to stay firmly on the program. This little online community of Cohenites always makes me feel better and is where I turn to when I feel a bit down...like now.

I'm now in Bali and feeling a bit miserable. Husband's here for work; I tagged along for a break. My consultant gave me some tips on guesstimating my food portions but I realized there's more to it than ordering veg and a protein from the menu.

For example, for lunch today I ordered a grilled baby snapper without the accompanying potatoes and with double the portions of vegetable and salad. The fish came with a garlic oil sauce and stir-fried carrots and french beans...both off-limits on Cohens!!! And it didn't strike me until a few mouthful of beans and carrots

I hunted around a bit this morning and found some restaurants with potential salad options and a couple of japanese places I can dine at. However, does anyone else have any other tips? Breakfast's easier because it's buffet style at the hotel and I can just order an egg and pick a salad/veg stir-fry.

With every meal, I imagine the weight lost with so much effort creeping back. I think I'm getting obsessive but believe me, I'm so totally not enjoying these forced deviations. :(

Those who have fallen off the wagon, please find the strength in you, get back on and keep working at it. My consolation now is I can walk in my bikini to the pool with about 8kg less weight and more confidence now.

oooooooh Hotmama *shakes fist even harder* Life is a funny thing isnt it!!!!
you started cohens a week after me with the same goal weight and will be finishing probably next month...I SHOULD BE YOU hahaha actually well not really considering you were lighter then me and god gave us different bodies - yours was the faster burning one...do you think if i start praying everyday he'll give me a few more fat eating cells? :D and yes i believe you about the mind thing considering i havent deviated at all but i dare not wish to think about what would of happened if id had a few scoffing incidences!!

WindyBlue - oh bali! i really want to go there again! where abouts are you staying? Its so hard eating out there dont you think?? When i went with my bestfriend last year we would go to the restaurants and there would be nothing but noodles or pastas or 'quick greasy westerner imitation food'. Come to think of it we found the 24 hour macdonalds delivery QUITE handy when we would come home from clubbing drunk as sailors and hungry...NO WONDER I WAS OBESE.....OMGSH and i was walking around and swimming in the pool and at kuta beach in my bikinis    i think i had a severe case of reverse anorexia!!

As for me well i just would like to say that i went into supre and tried on a gorgeous pair of 3/4 skinny leg capris and they fit!!! Actually to be quite honest i did have a noticable muffin top but i will wait another couple of weeks and go try them on again to see the difference.. BY THE WAY supre is a Girls Fashion store in perth that is KNOWN for their extremely small sizes...the tag might say 'XL' but for the life of you a thigh wouldnt even fit in those babies...BUT THEY DID...and they were a 'L' as well so 'Yay hooray!' for caroline....now if i can only coax my body into losing 10 kilos this next weigh in.... *sings* 'burrrn baby burrnn!! (disco inferno!!!)'

Happy losing everyone!

I think everyone can feel down at times, feel that they are missing out on something, eg for me eating some pizza and a beer after a long hard week at work or my favorite, sushi and with a few glasses of white wine.

It does mess with my head at times the "food as a treat that I deserve". However my daily mistakes in the choice of foods I ate made me fat, I have to pay the price to undo those mistakes. I can have a few treats only after I earn the right and deserve to the slim and trim! Right now I must earn the right, pay the price of entry into the to be slim and trim club, then enjoy the occasional treat.

Frantically chewing gum - and now have terrible wind pains.

i too fell off the wagon babyegg and could just slap myself silly for it. i went away for the weekend and made bad choices. am frantically chewing gum to keep the nibbles at bay and now have terrible wind pains.

bluegum - i am simply repeating what everyone else said - good luck and please do let us know how you get on. my father had terrible reoccuring kidney stones and an ultrasound quite high showed a shadow around the bottom of his heart. he had an aneurism (sp?) on his aorta that was about to burst and he would have died instantly. he is happy and healthy and has never had a kidney stone since. you will be just fine and we are all pulling for you. take care.

is wind pains not necessarily associated with wind a common side effect on this program?

I noticed your reply to Baby egg that you were frantically chewing gum. If this is a sugar free gum - check the package - it is likely to say - May have a Laxative effect. That laxative effect is likely to result in terrible wind pains if enough has been consumed, and particularly when on a limited diet. So it is not likely the diet - but the gum sweetener - causing the wind. Good Luck.

Better to eat a little more Cohens approved foods than to totally deviate.

I agree with Less Fatty on this subject, and thank him for many inspiring posts over this and the dedicated Cohens New Life Forum. Many months ago he posted advice on getting started - and so three weeks before Christmas (not the best time) my husband and I started on our program. I have had only one deviation time on Christmas Day and two days after - so the choice to start before was wise one. I am following the program 100% and my husband is following the foods, but not the weights, and he is losing very nicely. I had thought it would be too hard on him to follow 100% as he has a much larger appetite than mine. He was big on sugar and big on breads, starchy vegetables, etc. etc. He is attracting many comments as he carried all his weight in his "belly' so to speak, and his needing new trousers and belts.

I have dropped from a size 22 to a size 18 during this time, and I never feel hungry. I have however suffered some side effects that I would like to share with others, that I have not previously found when reading back over previous posts. Around four weeks ago I had a bad attack of gout. I had previously had two attacks some two years apart three years earlier, but this latest experience was far far more painful and involved terrible leg cramps, and I have not been able to eliminate it totally. I will go a few days without it and then have another mild episode. I have an inherited predisposition to gout.
My naturpath tells me that gout is also caused by your body being in the state of ketosis. I decided that I would take the medications prescribed and suffer the gout as it occurs - regularly - over the next few months as the end result will be well worth the pain I am going through. I have had a full shoe on just once in 3/4 weeks and that is not a problem for my semi retired lifestyle. Other positive side effects from this eating programme include very much improved eye-sight due to a much larger intake of water, and much higher energy levels. Thank you to all who have share their journey.

oh dear - second ever post and it is duplicated.

Sorry about that - We had a brief power outage just as I went to submit the post and it obviously went through the first time, but I got the message that I was not connected to the site.

Moving tomorrow

Hello everyone:)

I apologise for not reading any post today but i am still packing and the removal truck comes tomorrow early.
Just a quick update I know in my last post I said I was coping ok doing cohen's and continue right up to today even though I would have loved to have some of the pizza we ordered but I stuck with my tuna and salad.......gosh it's a struggle getting that down lately.....but anyway I think tomorrow is going to be a stretch I have my yoghurt ready for the morning and fruit & crackers through the day but once the fridge is gone? well i will have to work on that. The trouble is that I am so exhausted at the moment and have not stopped for the last fortnight and the last thing I even want to do is eat...but I know I must.

Anyway on a FANTASTIC note I fit into a size 10.....yipee!!!!!!!:p :p :p I bought them 3 weeks ago (long shorts just above the knee) and it was a tight fit but now they are fitting just right so that gave me the motivation not deviate in anyway.

So that is me I will probably check in on the weekend (quickly) if the computer is up by then. I still have the cleaning and unpacking to do in the new house so that will keep me busy for awhile.

Take care everyone. Talk again soon. Wishing all skinny thoughts.:D

Sam:)

Congrats Isparkle - its a great feeling -

WELL DONE LOSING on the size 8 - that's my dream.

You're allowed to boast Sharon. You must feel great. I've never seen a single digit size on any of my clothing lol
