Cohen's Lifestyle Cohens Lifestyle Support - New

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Life after refeed (II)

I thought I should share with you all my upside experiences as I venture back into reality eating...

One, I noticed that I have a low threshold for sugar now. What I find too sweet is actually normal to my family. So I have stayed away from sugary drinks and canned fruits in syrup.

Two, I am still surviving without much consumption of bread and rice. A little bit of bread makes my bloated.

Three, I'm into exercising now. i find it easier to exercise by doing brisk walking and all that.

Four, my relatives who have not seen me for 1 year are totally shocked at this complete transformation I have. They claimed that I look taller, prettier and thin. They encouraged me to stop dieting. The best part was, now they are asking whether I'm going to get attached soon instead of asking me the same question for the past 26 years about when I'm going to lose weight. =)

Five, i look so good in my clothes!

Six, I'm cultivating my taste buds towards cheesecakes and cheese now. It's great as desserts right?

Seven, I'm still buying healthy stuff at the supermarket. Peaches, nectarines, kiwis, apples...

Eight, fried food doesn't taste that nice after all.

Nine, my stomach has definitely shrank over the past 1 year and 2 months of Cohen. Its capacity is definitely not as large as it was pre-Cohen.

Ten, I am determined to train my tastebuds to the cohen lifestyle. After having some meals outside, I conclude that having homecooked foods in cohen style is the best. Outside food has too much oil, too much MSG, salt, sugar such that it doesnt make me feel good eating them. I enjoy Cohen style of cooking now. Perhaps that's why I'm still keeping to the Cohen portions of food...

But... this is a resolution I hope to achieve by mid April... to lose weight till 63kg then I can officially announce that I lost myself (start weight was 126kg)... Hahahha...

Thanks Newlife

I have been back on the wagon since the 4th day of cny... and yes i am slowly feeling less bloated and think i am losing the weight.. not weighing till next week.. cos now i am having my "monthly routine" which i think will make me weigh a little bit more.. I think i agree with you that its really tough to stick to Cohen... but i am going to complete it hopefully by May... going to work hard.... Now most impt is to go back to my weight before i deviated which is 70.9kg..... HERE I COME!!!
Thanks for the encouragement given... very very much appreciated... :)

Newlife - Thankyou for posting about your refeed and complications, you should be commended on your 1 year and 2 months of being on cohens! i think if i was on for that long i would probably have fallen off the wagon, broke both my legs and arms so i couldnt get back on again!...

in regards to you putting on weight....My personal opinion is i think that because you JUST finished refeed and went straight into CNY and feasting (which im sure the food would of been all carbs and oil /sugar/fried right?) your body went into shock mode...kind of like the first two weeks when you first started cohens and you lost the most amount of weight...because your body was in shock.

because you didnt give your body suffiecient amount of time to adjust to 'normal' eating in moderation it did a little backflip and started putting on weight.

Also i have read in many posts that alot of cohens people find that life after they are very sensitive to carbs and try to steer clear of them or only having them at one meal (lunch or dinner)

I hope this was of some help?

In other news i have found a new 'treat'!! Its Wrigleys Sugarfree gum - Apple Flavour...OH MY MY its really nice :) and definatley came at the right time when i needed something different..

Also i have been beggining to save my yoghurt for a dinner/desert type thing..
I cut up one apple in small dices, put my yoghurt allowance in, crush a ryvita in and add cinnamon...YUMMO!! it really fills me up and i feel like im having a really nice desert type thing as im watching ' the biggest loser'

Happy losing everyone!

Am I right in saying that if you put on 4 kgs you should go back on the plan for a few days???? I am so interested in how you are going and I thank you for your posts -

Caroline (SkinnyCat)

Are you finding that is enough for dinner and how do you go eating meat for breakkie - this morning I had run out of veges and as a non yoghurt eater had to eat egg and califlower - YUK YUK and double YUK....

THe things you do........

Oh but on the upside then I went shopping to get some veges and bought myself some new clothes while I was at it......

An experiment that I did

Dear all,

I did an experiment yesterday... I kept to my Cohen meals - Egg for brekky, 120g fish for lunch and 90g for dinner. I also ate my crackers. I had 3 servings of fruits (old fruits). On top of this, I deviated by eating biscuits, goodies, etc...

But guess what??? I lost 1.5kg in just ONE day. I'm surprised. I wasn't expecting that much of weight loss, more like a few grams or so. But 1.5 kg was way too much.

So... i'm beginning to suspect that it's not the carbs that making me put on weight. It's rather the mixture of proteins. For example, if I'm eating the forbidden proteins with my old proteins, I may actually gain weight. I was looking through my refeed diary and I realized that as my new proteins increased, I was slowly gaining weight in a few hundred grams.

So... i'm doing another experiment again. I'm eating the usual crap carbos that I'm eating, but this time, I'm mixing the proteins. Like for lunch, I ate fish with sweet meat (barbequed pork... it's a sinful dish by the way.) So... if I gain weight the next day, it might have to do with the mixing of proteins.

OR... it could be because I overate the proteins...

Anyway... I'm glad to be at 67.5 kg now. I'm going to aim to reach to 63 kg by mid April as well as stabilise my eating habits and lifestyle... I mean... I have to learn to eat in the right quantities and mixture as I venture out into eating at restaurants and places right?

I also told myself that from Mon to Fri, I'm going to keep to the Cohen style of meals but on the weekends, I'm going to relax and be free to eat whatever I want. This is what I'm training myself to do.

Oh yah! And i realized that i'm not so into fried food anymore. For example, my sister was buying some fried spring rolls for the family. And surprisingly, I was not turned on by the spring rolls. Last time, pre Cohens, I was very turned out by all the fried stuff. But now, i'm not even tempted. I'm gonna keep at that... taming my tastebuds...

I guess in spore, it's kinda difficult finding the western style of food since most of our foods are asian and they are usually deep fried, stir fried. Even the soupy dishes have fried ingredients in them. so that's why, I'm having some trouble going back to eating normally...

Anyway, I will fill you guys in about my weight tomorrow. hopefully, I will not gain any weight with this experiment. *cross fingers*

fruits and going back to cohen...

Newlife: thanks for all posts, they are really interesting - especially keeping us up to date with life after refeed. I'm almost certain that if you were obese before starting the program, you are only supposed to limit yourself to 1 piece of fruit a day after refeed. Speak with your consultant if you can about this, but from a bit of reading, fruit is still sugar - so if you have an empty stomach and are snacking on fruit, it will spike your insulin levels. The increase in insulin just get's that fat factory going again. It's recommended you have some protein with fruit if you want to snack (so a bit of cheese, or yogurt and fruit).

Have still been under the pump with work. Hoping it will slow down soon s can get a little more active in here.

Started properly: 21 Jan
Next weigh in: 21 March
Goal: double digits ASAP!!

Hi dreamer,

yup, I know about this fruit intake. But I have a major problem with this. if I only eat 1 serving of fruit, I will have constipation problems. So I actually did a few experiments, and i realized that eating 3 to 4 servings of fruits will help me in my bowel movements. And while I was on cohens, even though i ate more than the 2 servings of fruits allowed, I was still losing weight.

Either way, I tend to limit to 3 servings of fruits plus now with psyllium husks.

As for going back to Cohen after gaining 4 kg, yup, I'm back there but mostly because, I am still not used to eating the outside food. I kinda prefer the no oil, bland Cohen stuff. It's really funny how when we are doing Cohens, we crave for the forbidden foods. And now, when we have it, we crave for Cohen food. Hahahah...

As for sugar triggering, I try to alleviate my 3 servings of fruits with not consuming any sugary stuff at all...

I guess I'm still experimenting so that I know what my body can take and cannot take...

Keep going Babyegg...

You will be a greater winner by hitting back on the wagon after falling off! Resilience is the key! Keep going!

Losing - LOL at skinnycat :) the reason i came across the whole desert thing was i was reading alot of posts about cohenites weight loss slowing down and plateau-ing into their last 10kg or so before refeed...well me being the worrywort and impatient kitty that i am i definately did NOT want to still be on cohens for another 3+ months so i started experimenting with my menu.
For some reason the yoghurt/apple/ryvita thing fills me up :) i think its because i eat it slowly because i really savour it and enjoy it spoonful by spoonful which probably takes me longer to eat :p

For the first 12 weeks on cohens this was my typical meal

Breakfast: Yoghurt
Lunch:Fish with Vege
Dinner:Beef or Chicken with same vege as lunch

some days i would have my cheese option for lunch and fish for dinner but would only limit this to 2 times a week (paranoid about the full fat cheese:rolleyes: )

Now my menu will consist of the same as above but i will have fish or chicken or beef for brekkie (just cook it the night before and reheat in morning)
sometimes i will have yoghurt for brekkie but i have been trying to mix it around alot so my body doesnt get used to the same stuff day in day out.
Ive also increased my cheese option to 3 days a week which in turns means i eat alot more fish now.

I only weigh myself monthly at cohens clinic so i wont know how this experiment will have gone until i step on those scales on the 9th of march!!

At first it was really weird having fish/chicken/beef for brekkie - i pretty much scoffed it down and went back to bed for another nap before i truly got up but now im really used to it - i actually think this has been a big learning curve as i used to treat my food as a comfort and now i just eat what i need to and get on with the day - although at times i will sit and enjoy what im having. I think this will be a great advantage to me after cohens and willl give me the respect i need for my body not to just put ANYTHING into it and sometimes to sit and enjoy the meal instead of eating it just because 'it tastes good'.

LOL dont you just love that? I went to get milk the other day and walked into supre across the road and bought myself a nice summer dress as well :D

constipated

Hi everyone,
just into my second week, had a loss of 4.5 and 19.5 cm in the first week. However have had no deviations at all, drunk all my water had 3 walks and the last 3 days have remained the same weight. I think its something to so with the fact that I am a bit constipated. Would this be why and has anyone any ideas as to what the answer to this problem is? I have bought pysillium husks today. Is Metamucil allowed, I have some sugarfree and it doesn't seem to have any nasties in it!!.
Thanks for your help....

How about eating spinach for your veggie allowance... and the next meal use cabbage... both veggies are known for the laxative effect.. Having one and the other for the next meal along with your Metamucil...should keep things going.

Also, be sure there are no carbs in that Metamucil you are taking.

You're right... by the end of the week ...you'll probably have a big drop...which is why they say don't weight yourself all the time..even tho I do...I know it will drop by the end of the week.

Time of month

I struggle during that woman time of the month....wanting xtra portions especially my fruit but stop myself and do not deviate...also feel a bit lethargic or anxious like during this time...does anyone else feel like this or can offer suggestions????:)

Fat Cat: Years ago my aunt lost a lot of weight purely by having main meal for her breakfast. She did not diet in any other sense only changed her meals around so that she was burning the main meal all through the day. May make you loose weight faster even on cohens!! Well done by the way.

Slimny: Thank you for your suggestions, did not know that spinach had those properties, I was not a spinach eater before. Now I eat whatever is on the list!! I have been haviang the psyllium husks in with my yoghurt and cinnamon for breakfast and its not too bad either, saves my fruit for later when I need it.

I have told some other people I know just starting cohens about this site. I find it so encouraging reading everyones comments, keep up the good work!!

Charting Success

Hello

Just finished doing my weekly measuring of body parts - sounds a bit gruesome doesn't it?!

I am so pathetically anal that since starting on Cohens, I actually chart my weekly measurement progress in Microsoft Excel - I have bar charts for Combined Body Area Measurement, Total CM Loss and also one for Total Weight Loss.

It's actually very motivating seeing the results visually displayed! As I said - I'm very anal.

Well - I go for my monthly weigh-in on Tuesday. As I've said in earlier posts, my clinic likes to weigh fortnightly, but last time I was weighed, I actually asked to go a month (as per Cohen's own weigh once a month rule!) before my next weigh-in. I have found it much less stressful having the month between official weigh-ins and am looking forward to Tuesday to see how I've gone ... :D

In the month since my last weigh-in, I've managed to lose another 17 cm (bringing my total cm loss to 94.50 cm) ... so I'm hoping to celebrate a nice kg loss too ...

It's great reading all the posts - very interesting reading the challenges post-Cohen's re-feed ...

Kind regards

Taffy

Newb question

Hello all!

My name is Felicity and my mother and I are on week 2 of Cohens.

I have a quick question, I'm 21 and when I started I weighed 81kgs. In the last two weeks, I have gone down a whopping 10 kilograms to 71. My goal is 56 - 58, but I am worried this is too rapid an amount of weight loss for so early on.

Could it be due to my age? Or am I just lucky because I started Cohens at the beginning of my weight loss cycle?

Wow Felicity that is an amazing weight loss. I am up to day 11 and have lost 5.4kg. I am not sure but I know when I was younger I did loose weight more quickly than I can now, has your mum had a good loss as well?

Just a ticker update.. 10.3kg in the first month, with one involuntary deviation. We went out on Saturday and it was meant to be for 4 hours or so, but ended up being more than 10, so I had to eat something. Ah well.
Still not having any trouble, I still love the food and experimenting with things. By the time I'm done I'll be an awesome cook hehe.

hi everyone

thanks frangipani - i have stopped eating the gum and the pains have gone. was quite bad for a while and i wondered whether the program was making me ill. thanks for the tip.

i have a bit of a problem with constipation from the program and you just need to hang in there, it will settle a bit. i find that i have to eat the full daily fruit and veg allowance and have at least 3ltrs water. xtra water may help those suffering. i also switched to tofu when it was really bad and did not feel as heavy as when i was eating meat.

babyegg - how are you now? doing well i hope.

congratulations for every little success you are having. have not measured myself, have been so busy can't get around to buying tape measure.

have a good week all.

I am working hard!!!

Mrs Clooney, thanks for asking.. I have promised myself to really good.. and I must say it would be a while before i would go back to the original 70.9kg... I have come to a conclusion that I would not be that harsh on myself on the deviations that I have had but rather move on from here... no more new year goodies... just food allowed on Cohen program... and to stick to the food 100%... I am going to take it as a lesson learnt and will never do that again....
Its been tough but I am the one who wanted to go on this program, its up to myself to complete it... :D

Ticker Update

Hello

Just updating my ticker ... now down to 65.8 kg and a total cm loss of 94.5 cm to date.

Keep well!

Kind regards

Taffy

Mistaken Identity and Relief

Hello! I'm back in Singapore.

Firstly - sorry for getting identities mixed up in an ealier post! I meant to praise Less Fatty for resisting chocolate but wrote HeyFatty instead. Anyway, after Cohen's, there shouldn't be any "fatties" left :p BTW FattyBomBom was my childhood nickname :(

And secondly - I feel quite embarassed freaking out about deviating in Bali. Weighing myself this morning, I had gained a grand total of...300g! And that was after one week of deviations every meal!

I think here's what worked:
1. I took HL's tips and exercised a bit more (swam and walked a lot), ordered salad instead of veg
2. I avoided mixing proteins
3. Where possible, I approximated to my meal plan. E.g. I ate a sunny-side up or one-egg omelette with veg every morning as there wasn't plain, low-fat yoghurt on the menu
4. Skip the cripbreads if I ate some rice.

My husband who's also on Cohen's is still in Bali for his conference. He has been naughty - ate a small slice of cheesecake between meals and half a slice of chocolate cake the other day. I'm waiting to see how he does

Anyway, I'm very glad to be back on the program and eating Cohen's stuff again - no need to wonder where to go for lunch, what to eat or stuff like that. Eat to live!

Hi all,

good on you windy for doing so well overseas. everyone seems like they are very focused at the moment and that is great.

i was going to not talk about how i am going as i had a bad day. yes a whole day. but i have moved on with it. was good in the sense that i am as focused now as i was in the beginning. bring on the weightloss.

well i have my first weigh in on weds and excited but nervous. i really wanted to hit the 10kg mark but due to my bad day, i think it will hold me back a kilo or two. anyhow. will still be happy with 8.

went shopping to day for a dress for a wedding i have on the weekend. i tried on a size 14 and it fit!!! with room!! it was probably a big make but i was pleased as punch. :p

:p keep focusing peoples.

lose on !!
