Ohappydaye's Diary

Hmmm...I suppose I could walk the plank...depending on the pirate that I was walking WITH ;)

Hey RD and M2M,
Thanks for coming by.

I'm in a pickle right now ( I know, enough with the food analogies! lol ). My sodium levels have really got me worried. While still within "my range" its getting higher and higher everyday and now that I'm aware of it I feel the impact it has on my body....bloated, thirsty as ever (with all the water I'm drinking!). I really want to make a significant impact on lowering my sodium levels, anybody got an ideas? As much as it breaks my heart, I've given up peanut butter:( , but I'm looking for low sodium substitutes once I kick stuff out of my diet. I did a little research before I left work today and found some interesting links. I plan to do more reading tonight and see what I can find, but I thought I'd present my problem to the experts here first.

I'm sitting here now, as frustrated as all get out, because everything I've considered having for dinner is too high in sodium!

What are you eating that raises your sodium OHD? I'm generally always in my range - with only one day being REALLY high, and I saw an immediate difference!

Maleficent watches her sodium level really well, she might have some good input!

theres a brand that i buy occassionally... it's teddy something - i just tried googling on it and was unsuccessfull... they make an all natural unsalted peanut butter.. ingredients.. peanuts... that's it.. it's really good tasting to.. the only downside to it is you have to stir it up before using it... And honest to goodness I can't taste that it doesn't have salt in it...

Thanks Mal, I'll definitely be looking for that PB!!

As far as what's raising it, it looks like darn near everything.:( Those Morningstar Spicy Black Bean veggie burgers are killing me, the peanut butter, the Lean Cuisine lunch (WOWSER!), my tuna fish...guess I need to lower my serving  , even my darn Kashi waffles. With the waffles I'm going to try eating only one versus two for breakfast.

If you get a bag of dried beans.. .and soak them and cook them (good use for a crock pot) - you can make your own black bean burgers... for a fraction of the sodium...

Lean Cuisines are just killers when it comes to that - no advice there...

Tuna - yeah that's bad - but i stick with the 3 oz packages and rinse if before i use it.. not sure if it helps but.. eh.. gotta try...

I'm gonna start soaking all my food in water for two days before eating it...think I can wash out the sodium? :p

i've asked this question to the dieticians on spark... especially where beans are concerned.. and canned beets as well (something i really like w/ balsamic vinegar) The answer I got was - Yes it absolutely reduces the sodium... but they couldn't give me a percentage on how much-- 10 - 25- 50??? they don't know...

Yea, I'm done with those. I bought them because I was too lazy to prepare my lunch. NEVER again!

I never knew that...guess I'd better cut back on my serving size as well.

I don't know if rinsing/soaking helps, but I'm sure as heck gonna try it!

Thanks for everything Mal!

Success is a journey...not a destination.

I just took out one of my coffee mugs...sorry, gotta have a cup of joe. At any rate, I pulled out a mug that I hadn't used in a very long time. It came with a set of stationary and matching pen that I got as a gift when I completed grad school ...and the above quote is what's on it. I felt like it was something that I needed to remember and I wanted to share. Hope it helps someone else, too.

Love you guys...and gals! ;) :) :)

*going to see can't I find the pen that came with that set, it's probably in my file cabinet somewhere.*

I love a good quote!

This one is one of by favorites regarding success:
"Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds." -Orison Swett Marden

I LIKE that one too! I'm a quote freak...I'll be adding this one to my journal as soon as I submit this post. :) Thanks for sharing!
