Ohappydaye's Diary

Ok...here goes! :)

My name is Ohappydaye and I have five pounds left to loose and for those who read my post in the newcomer section, you know that I'm struggling with this last five. So right now, I'm 32 years old, 5'8" and my current weight is 140 lbs with a goal weight of 135.

I started on April 5th of this year, at the weight of 149. I was the heaviest I had been in my life, including being nine months pregnant with my daughter. At 149 I was two pounds heavier than I was at the time I gave birth. It just crept up on me. I guess that thing about your metabolism slowing at 30 is true. All my life I was blessed with my dad's metabolism, so to speak. I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and as much as I wanted and never had to worry. Well, that's no longer the case. :p

I joined Curves on April 5th (as a part of a weight loss competition at my job) and began going three days a week, but QUICKLY became addicted and started going five days a week. I completely changed the way I ate and what I ate. I NEVER ate breakfast before, but now I do. I have five meals a day: breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, a mid-afternoon snack and dinner. I TRY very hard not to eat after dinner but if I do its hot tea and/or some fruit. I scowered (sp?) the internet and bought books and read as much as I could about fitness in order to "do this thing right." I was on a mission! I increased my water consumption, started out with 2 liters a day (while at work from 7:30 - 3:30) and gradually increased it to 3 liters. I also drank water when I got home in the afternoons, but I typically used glasses and mugs which I lost count of. I bought litered bottles and took them to work in order to keep a better assessment since I was there most of the day.

I started keeping a food diary and quickly found that my biggest problem was that I wasn't eating enough. I was so busy during the day that I often skipped lunch, got food out of the snack machine when I didn't have time to run out of the building and was drinking TOO much coffee and sodas. That's when I began packing my lunches every night before work and I'd including my two snacks. I FINALLY began to understand that if I wasn't eating enough that my body went in to starvation mode and was holding on to that fat for dear life!

In June, I cut back on Curves and went back to three days a week (M,W,F) and started doing a two mile power walk on Tuesday and Thursday morning, with some light strength training. With the rise in the heat index, I'll admit that I've cut back on the walking (beautiful trail around the lake). I started using the treadmill instead and it just isn't as gratifying so I've kinda slacked on that a bit.

Some of you know that I've purchased the Ripped System to help me with the last five pounds but I'm too scared to use it now, so I'm going to take it back and just increase my strength training. I've also decided that once school starts back up, I'm going to start going to Curves five days a week again. I would like to get this five pounds off in a month, but it DEFINITELY has to be gone by my birthday (Oct. 31) so I can treat myself to something FABULOUS! :D

I know that I'm NOT dieting, I have changed my life. I cook better for both my daughter and myself. I watch our fat intake and have cut as many white carbs as possible. We no longer eat white bread, ONLY whole wheat; no longer use regular pasta, ONLY whole wheat pastas. It's great because she has totally bought into it (she's 7) and when we go to grocery stores she picks up items and reads the nutrional facts!! It cracks me up when she says, "Do you know how much fat is in this stuff Mommy?!" No, I'm not contributing to the development of an eating disorder with her, but I am teaching her to be a health conscience young woman and for that I am proud!

So...that's my story. Sorry, I tend to talk a lot!

Forgot to say

...that I'm a CHOCOHOLIC! And I've found that fat free fudgsicles are THE best at curing the chocolate cravings and if I remember correctly they are only 40 calories each! The funniest thing was I was watching Oprah the other week and she loves them too!! I thought that was pretty funny! Now...to get those fabulous abs that she was showing off!

Good luck on getting what you want Daye - it sounds as though you and your daughter have a good idea of what to eat, and what not to eat!

Go for it!

Thanks, I'm trying really hard. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement! :)

Sounds like you're going strong!! Keep up the great work! And I think it's great that you're educating your daughter on how to eat properly, I do the same with mine (she's 8) She's all about healthy food. When she packs her lunch for school she actually packs baby carrots and fat free ranch dressing and fruit for dessert. LOL

Thanks! :D Although I'm happy to be loosing the weight, educating her has been the highlight of this whole process. I was just over on Maleficent's diary copying a few recipes from Rachel Reye's website for her lunch! She was reading along with me and approved the new addition to her lunch menu! :p Sounds like your doing an awesome job yourself...they're so cute when they make good food choices, aren't they?

Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement! :)

UGHH! I totally suck today! :(

I couldn't sleep last night...again, so I slept in this morning and so far all I've eaten is two apples and I drank 20 oz. of water. *sigh* This is the worst "breakfast" I've had all summer.

I've gotta kick myself in the pants and get it together. I had planned to get up and go to the gym at my complex this morning, do some strength training and run at least a mile. So much for that. I'm going to try to do it this afternoon. I'm about to run to the bank, return this Ripped System to the GNC down the street and then come back and prepare lunch. That'll get me back on track...yea! *Pray for me*

What is causing your sleep loss? The good thing about your breakfast is that you had something and it is healthy - stay positive! NAT

THANKS! I needed that! *big hug* :)

As for the sleep loss, I have no idea. The last week or so has been miserable. I was at the point of tears one night, I was so tired and my body just wouldn't shut down and go to sleep. The only thing that I can think of is that since I've been on vacation, my exercise and eating schedule isn't as exact as when I'm on the job.

The heat has kept me from my beloved 2 mile power walk around the lake and I try to do the treadmill but its so boring! Typically I go to Curves at 4, when I leave work but during my time off I've been mixing it up...sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the early afternoon. Sometimes I've skipped it all together and opted for strength training instead thinking that it would do me good to mix it up. I guess not.

My only hypothesis is that I've thrown my body out of whack with this change in my schedule because I was so regimented before. When I'm at work I eat my breakfast, snacks and lunch at the exact same times everyday with only the slightest variation and now...well, not so "on the dot" but I get it all in. What do you think...is it possible to have thrown my body out of whack, thus causing a disturbance in my sleep pattern?

great reading in your diary... you're so enthusiastic - you will be at your goal and staying there before you know it...

I've found the littlest things can cause a big impact in my sleeping... hope you figure yours out soon

Definately the change in your day to day - same thing with the work schedule - I eat really well on the Monday to Friday @ work but it goes by the wayside if we eat out @ night and on weekends. Should you try a habit relax before sleep each night - works for little kids right?? Something relaxing and well you know helps you sleep - a nice bath, warm shower - reading? Some private you time... we seem to deprive ourselves of this, we think well my time was at the gym, computer, etc. but real alone time without any distractions - give yourself a pedicure, reflection time - read a trashy magazine- this is NB! critical to relaxing. Hope you sleep better tonight! NAT

I'll give those things a try. I have Chamomille tea, I'll include that in my new night time ritual. I'll be sure to report back tomorrow with tonight's results.

I just LOVE it here, it ROCKS, you all are so WONDERFUL!!! Thank you! *super big hug*:)

I forgot to post my lunch... after I returned home from running my errands, which included returning the Ripped System to GNC, I felt MUCH better. It's weird, but after returning that system I felt empowered. I'm going to do this!!

Ok...as for my lunch:

I had a lean turkey sandwich on whole wheat, with spicy brown mustard and LOADS of jalapenos with loads of water (lol). I looooooooooove jalapenos and they make sure I get my water in! :p

Curious about the GNC system...why did you return it? NAT

No particular reason, I just got all freaked out about taking it. I bought it on Friday, after I weighed in and found that I had only lost a pound...but I'm not counting that one. My trainer said that her scale wasn't calibrated, which I saw for myself but I she tried to calibrate it and I think she "gave" me the pound because I was bummed when the scale still read 140.

So...I ran out of there and straight to GNC, all depressed. I came home and googled it, but couldn't find any reviews of it. The more time that passed the more uneasy I felt about it, so I took it back today and am going to try to kick these last five pounds on my own.

I'm going to start running my two miles (on Tuesday and Thursday) versus walking and increase my strength training, while still doing my 3 days at Curves. I really hope I can do this!! *sigh*

I am sooooo sleepy right now, but I'm afraid to nap. :( If I do, I KNOW I'll never get to sleep tonight!

I would go take a walk, but as luck would have it...it's about to storm. GREAT! *sigh*

Thank GOD for ThermaCare's back pads...those things are miracle workers! (pun intended...lol) Ahhh, I feel much better now. Don'tcha just hate that time before that time of the month?! Geez!!

*OHD waits, impatiently, for her Motrin to kick in*

Dinner:

A salad made of spinach lettuce, grilled chicken, cut up apples, cranberries, toasted almonds, a sprinkle of cheddar cheese and topped with a fat free raspberry vinegerette (sp?) dressing with 20 oz of water.
