Ok...here goes!
My name is Ohappydaye and I have five pounds left to loose and for those who read my post in the newcomer section, you know that I'm struggling with this last five. So right now, I'm 32 years old, 5'8" and my current weight is 140 lbs with a goal weight of 135.
I started on April 5th of this year, at the weight of 149. I was the heaviest I had been in my life, including being nine months pregnant with my daughter. At 149 I was two pounds heavier than I was at the time I gave birth.
It just crept up on me. I guess that thing about your metabolism slowing at 30 is true. All my life I was blessed with my dad's metabolism, so to speak. I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and as much as I wanted and never had to worry. Well, that's no longer the case.
I joined Curves on April 5th (as a part of a weight loss competition at my job) and began going three days a week, but QUICKLY became addicted and started going five days a week. I completely changed the way I ate and what I ate. I NEVER ate breakfast before, but now I do. I have five meals a day: breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, a mid-afternoon snack and dinner. I TRY very hard not to eat after dinner but if I do its hot tea and/or some fruit. I scowered (sp?) the internet and bought books and read as much as I could about fitness in order to "do this thing right." I was on a mission! I increased my water consumption, started out with 2 liters a day (while at work from 7:30 - 3:30) and gradually increased it to 3 liters. I also drank water when I got home in the afternoons, but I typically used glasses and mugs which I lost count of. I bought litered bottles and took them to work in order to keep a better assessment since I was there most of the day.
I started keeping a food diary and quickly found that my biggest problem was that I wasn't eating enough.
I was so busy during the day that I often skipped lunch, got food out of the snack machine when I didn't have time to run out of the building and was drinking TOO much coffee and sodas. That's when I began packing my lunches every night before work and I'd including my two snacks. I FINALLY began to understand that if I wasn't eating enough that my body went in to starvation mode and was holding on to that fat for dear life!
In June, I cut back on Curves and went back to three days a week (M,W,F) and started doing a two mile power walk on Tuesday and Thursday morning, with some light strength training. With the rise in the heat index, I'll admit that I've cut back on the walking (beautiful trail around the lake). I started using the treadmill instead and it just isn't as gratifying so I've kinda slacked on that a bit.
Some of you know that I've purchased the Ripped System to help me with the last five pounds but I'm too scared to use it now, so I'm going to take it back and just increase my strength training. I've also decided that once school starts back up, I'm going to start going to Curves five days a week again. I would like to get this five pounds off in a month, but it DEFINITELY has to be gone by my birthday (Oct. 31) so I can treat myself to something FABULOUS!
I know that I'm NOT dieting, I have changed my life. I cook better for both my daughter and myself. I watch our fat intake and have cut as many white carbs as possible. We no longer eat white bread, ONLY whole wheat; no longer use regular pasta, ONLY whole wheat pastas. It's great because she has totally bought into it (she's 7) and when we go to grocery stores she picks up items and reads the nutrional facts!! It cracks me up when she says, "Do you know how much fat is in this stuff Mommy?!" No, I'm not contributing to the development of an eating disorder with her, but I am teaching her to be a health conscience young woman and for that I am proud!
So...that's my story. Sorry, I tend to talk a lot!
