I am really impressed with your weight loss. I am also trying to lose weight. I am 32/m/5 feet 8 inches/18% bf and currently weigh 179.6 pounds. I started exercising out at 215 pounds on December 1st 2010. My exercise regiment is mainly walking @ 3.7-3.8 mph with incline of 3% for an hour on the treadmill 5 days a week, some light muscle building and am on a strict very low carb diet. Also, play table tennis couple of hours a week. I still have a fat belly, much less then I started, and double chin. I have reached a weight loss plateau since a week.
Do you suggest anything to get over this weight loss plateau? I really want to get a flat belly and rid of double chin. Today, I did eliptical @ 160-170 strides a minutes with resistance of 5 for 30 minutes and then 30 minutes on the treadmill. I plan to continue with this cardio routine for 2 weeks to see if I get over the plateau.
Try changing your workouts. If you got a problem (like a plateau) and it isn't working, try another approach. Try lifting light/ high reps, maybe change what machines/weights excerises you do.
Try doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). It worked well for me.
Honestly not a big fan myself of the low carb. I'm no expert but I always felt the body needed cards for energy (good cards, like yams, veggies, not junk like white bread, candy). So I don't really pay that much attention to carbs. I've heard low carb diets can help, many people advocate it, but I don't really believe it.
As you lose more weight, its going to be harder and harder to lose . At this point in my weight loss (13% bodyfat), its becoming extremely difficult to get leaner. Give it time, you may have not reached a plateau.
Maybe you have. I hit a pleatau for 7 months doing the same thing, before I changed my diet around completely. That reminds me, how is your diet? If you want to get lean, or lose weight, the diet is the most important! Very important.
My mom is trying to lose weight, and she told me the other day she's going to eat whatever she wants just excerise alot...I told her that wouldn't work, unless you run marathons. You'll gain weight...so, your diet is important. Energy in = energy out.
Good luck to you.
PS: I created a Diary and posted pretty much everyday while losing the weight, if you want to check it out.
