My fresh start

Hellooooo Anna.Banana. On the subject of Brekkie (which is what I assume you call breakfast in New Zealand), if you have a lighter lunchie and are mindful of what you eat at dinnerie and dessertie, you can actually go a little crazy at brekkie if that's what you really like. A cheese omelettie and two strips of bacon is only about 350 calories. It's a lot of fat calories of course, but unless you're doing a specifically low-fat thing with the dietie it should leave you plenty of room for the rest of the day.

The big problem with this plan is that if it's 1:19 am and 10,000 miles away in America and you start talking about omeletties and bacon after a night out drinking, then getting up and walking down half a block to the IHOPie to have a big old plate of diet failie starts to sound very enticing. I'm assuming that since it's the _International_ House of Pancakes that they have offices all over the world, including New Zealand. No?

No Mr Vee, no international pancakes here! You know those shows about hoarders, well I'm Anna and I'm a calorie hoarder! I'm always trying to save some for the end of the day in case I'm hungry, which is mad because then I'm hungry because I haven't eaten those same calories earlier in the day.

I guess if I didn't have food issues, I wouldn't be here.

Today I ate ok and forced myself out of the house and did an8km walk. I've realized that the days I have early starts are the hardest days forme to eat and exercise according to the healthy lifestyle I'm aiming for. Tomorrow I have to be at work at 5:45 am which means early breakfast, I'll be ready for lunch by about 10 am! Oh well, I've packed my food and will just see how I go.

Today
B - toast 2eggs butter coffee
S - fruit and coffee
L miso soup, and sushi
S cottage cheese and rice crackers
D steak potato and salad

It was good quality food, and ok portions, but I'm feeling super hungry right now. Going to go to bed so breakfast comes sooner!

Calorie hoarder..haha! I usually try to save some calories for the end of the night too. So you're not alone! :)

hey, another Kiwi on this site : )

I'm fairly new, so just thought id come say hello. Hows the weight loss going?
(I'm at work so I don't have time to look at all posts ect.)

Hey Vince, weight loss is going ok I think. I've been eating really strictly and exercising lots so hopefully the scales will show a loss sometime soon.

Are you going to start a diary, and what is your weight loss plan?

Yeah, I have a diary - I started it in the newbie section and its just been put into the diary section now.

My plan - I worked hard fora few months and dropped about 10kg, lots of exercise, lots of eating right ect. That went well, but a work colleague convinced me to try this thing called Herbalife...ive been on it for 17 days now, and i've lost 6.7 kgs...its pretty crazy. Heaps more energy and if I'm honest, I've been doing bugger all exercise. It kinda feels too good to be true atm, but if I continue to lose a good amount of weight I may consider distributing it...but yeah still kinda sceptical atm haha.

Do you have any worries about Christmas ect? Im concerned I'm going to eat a crazy amount of everything haha.

Hey Anna - I'm still catching up on the diaries after my own vacation- finally made it to yours...U've been busy gal.
Glad to hear your vacation was nice - I'm glad you enjoyed the whale-watching on west-coast Canada - our coastlines are almost as gorgeous as NZ - ( did a trip there many years ago - loved it. )

Good work on avoiding the In/Out burgers, doughnutes, M+Ms - and I'm glad to see you got back on track with healthy groc's and daily logging now that you're home.

Sorry about your sad-heart Anna , living with the loss of your daughter must be so hard,
I am glad you are embracing positive choices and striving to travel a healthy road - it takes much strength and faith to endure, even when life is hard.

The cauliflower soup you made sounds good - if you have a chance, could you post the recipe ? ...I am finding soup is a great way to fill-up , with low-calories... I make a home-made tomatoe soup myself ( with tomatoes from my own garden ) that really hits the spot.

I laughed when I read about your big-brekkiie ! .... I am a super-fan of bacon myself...but when I read the calorie count ...was shocked ( I was even more suprised that they actually have the calories per slice listed right on the back of the bacon package...)... anyway... I did run into this a couple months back - pancakes/bacon brekkie is a favorite weekend treat my hubby&I used to do...was really missing it - so one particular Sunday morning - I looked up the calories - and as long as it's 3 pancakes/2 strips bacon / 1serving maple syrup - it can be done !...comes in at around 400cals or so.... & we had our pancake brekkie - I stuck to the serving- felt satisfied ! and not too guilty...so once in a while - can have it as a treat.... and it makes the poached eggs & whole-grain toast thru the week a lot more tolerable... lol.

I find I get major-hungree sometimes too ( especially on my lower-cal days / I alternate between 1,600cal days/ and 1,200 cal days - the 1,200's find me really hungry by late aftn sometimes.... my remedy is lots of tea ( mint tea, chai tea) with milk ( I know -bit odd to have milk in tea...but it's really filling, soothing, and relatively low-cal..)... I also find a tablespoon of peanut butter (90cals)- a good quick-fix when I have major hungrees- and no time to prepare my full meal - the peanut butter will keep the "growlies" at bay for an hour or two - 'til I have chance to prepare supper ... and protect me from a food-frenzie binge if I let myself get too too too hungreee....

so....here's to our keeping up the exercise & healthy eats cruising forward thru the challenge of Xmas !

cheers gal ,
Maryann

Hey Maryanne, nice to see you back here. I was thinking pancakes on chrissie day, but I have to work from 5:45 am so prob will have my usual egg on toast. I'll save up the pancake treat for another time.

I've been out with my hubby tonight, and we went to a very boring movie, and then impulsively went to an Asian fusion restaurant and I think I had one of the tastiest meals I ever had, it was even fairly healthy as we got a tiny bowl of rice to share and got salads etc, i went for a6km walk earlier and did other exercise ontop of that. I've just put it into mfp and I think my day was on track.

The exercise I did today gave me a boost because I was feeling fitter for a change which was cool. Yay.

My hubby is going to be away for the next week so I'm making some big exercise plans, and I'm going to try and stop eating late, we usually eat at about 8pm, and I much prefer to eat earlier, so I'll try to be all done by about 6:30 while he is away.

Anyway I'm hoping the scales will catch up with all the hard work exercising and eating I've been doing, we'll see tomorrow.

Hello, thanks for stopping by my diary! Looks like that was a good day - I hope the scale will show that too.

What kind of job do you have that you have to work so early on Christmas day?

Hey there, I'm an air traffic controller, and my shifts are on a rotating roster. I'll be finished by midday on Xmas day which is cool.

Vince, I'm near Christchurch, another awesome day here today.

Well the scales just aren't being kind to me. I'm trying to trust the process and wait for the results to show up, but man its hard. I've been really good at the calorie counting and I've been exercising heaps, but the scales just don't go down. I weighed at 97.3kg last Saturday morning and then on monday I was back up to 99.6 and today 99.3, at the start of the month I was at 100.1. I'm undecided as to whether to try and change things or just pursue my plan a bit longer. I know the weight won't come off overnight, but it'd be nice to see something happening on the scales.

I have added in a protein drink, because I've been pretty hungry and that should help, I've got enough calories for that.

B weetbix milk and coffee 445cals
S protein drink with half milk half water 210
L sushi and miso soup 400
S banana coffee 240
D salad w avocado and 2 boiled eggs 430
1725 total

Exercise (an easy day today after yesterday's 13km walk) 2hours of slow walking (1hour including carrying a backpack sprayer) 486

Net cals 1239

Hi Anna - glad to see the scale finally smartened up ! good work - .... was likely just some water-on-board that was hiding your loss...glad to see the loss is now showing !

So cool that you are an AirTraffic controller - challenging & stressful work?... but must also be very exciting.... the shift work can be tuff on weight-loss though, I work in a hospital & I know our nurses find the shifts tuff on them for sleep/eating... some of them try to be sure & get some protein in each time they eat - seems to help

Exercise with a back-sprayer... ?.... that sounds interesting...

cheers gal,
Maryann C.

Ok so I'm back at 97.6 today... I guess I should stop whining and keep doing this thing, maybe it is working.
You can whine if you like, but still keep 'doing this thing' regardless. :D

Patience has been the hardest thing for me, and I've been dropping pounds like clockwork for the most part. Anyone who is rational 100% of the time is a dangerous human being, so it's only natural to feel frustrations at the occasional bad number even if you should be more patient.

So whine away! Just don't let it stop you from doing what you know you need to.

Thanks for the pep talk yay.

Today was a rest day from exercise for me, I was going to go and have a splash around at the pool for fun more than exercise, but the lane swimming was closed, and it was 31 degrees celsius here today, so I knew the pool would be crazy.
I went and bought new exercise shoes instead. I've been having pain in one of my feet, and think new shoes might be the answer.

The rest day has definately helped with the pain, and I'll see how tomorrow's walk goes.

I ate over on cals today too, but only by 250 cals, I didn't count the small walk I took the dog on and the other activity, so I'm probably still under maintainance. The heat won , and I had a frozen yoghurt while I was out and a corona when I got home tonight. Yum yum.

Lol, its been beer weather here too....SOOO hard not to. I had 4 beers over the weekend, and to be honest I think that was pretty good restraint, 4 usually turns into about 15 over the course of a weekend.

Hey Anna - hope those new-shoes are the ticket for your sore foot- not fun working out in pain ...

Am so jealous of your lovely +31c down there... a nice cold beer sure is tempting when it's that hot... could always try a lower-cal one?... I like Bud liteMojito ...around 100cals- nice treat...

keep up the good work Anna,
cheers Maryann
