My Big Fat Journal

YAY for such a great week!! 2 lbs lost is amazing!!! KEEP up the great work!!

Sorry about your rafting trip... :( Have fun at the gym:eek:

I didn't know you had just quit smoking! Good for you on giving that up and losing weight at the same time!!!

And for being down to your weight back in 1991....girl, that is a major accomplishment!!!! I am so proud of you!!!!

I agree with you about the scale thing....I rarely got on the scale at my heaviest...but now getting on there every day makes me start the day thinking about how what I do that day will affect what it says tomorrow. It makes me more conscientous and I personally need that!

Hugs to ya!

Whew! Finally found my way in here! :) You're doing an awesome job, keep up the great work! I like the dancing ticker....makes me think of Flash Dance. :D I love that movie!...forgot to include that in my post about Fav Movies in the OT...oh well.

Hello! congrats on your success so far! Quiting smoking is huge!!!!!!!! I can't tell you how amazing it is that youv'e stuck with all this and made some healthy changes! I quit smoking about 6yrs ago, and it was soooo hard. It was about when I started to pack on my weight! So kudos to you! I of course replaced nicotine with caffeine, don't do that it's just as hard to quit! Take care and keep up the good work!!

I have a food issue that has come up. I have a friend who moved away about a year ago. She is moving back. She cooks all the time. Huge meals. You can't go over to her house without having a big spread of food shoved in your face. She always has mixed nuts out. She is big on appetizers as well. I don't know how I am going to go visit her. It will be ultimate test. At first I was thinking...I won't be able to go visit her!!! Of course that is ridiculous. I have to learn to live in the real world. I just know it is going to be a struggle.

I know you've already received a lot of advice on this, but I have a long time friend who entertains like this. Nuts are out everywhere, amazing appetizers, big food spread. Then they never let your cocktail run out and later in the evening they put out more nuts. OMG I think I gain 3 lbs every time I go over there. Oh and they won't let you bring a thing. They want to take care of their guests.

Well recently they invited us to join them out for dinner at a restaurant. I told them no (we never say no by the way, so this was big) - we were trying to watch our wallets and our waistline.

They had us over to dinner instead and a couple times since, and since then they've served grilled fish and veggies one time and grilled chicken and veggies another time. Still amazing food, but healthier. So they really listened. Course there are still too many nuts, drinks and appetizers (tho some are healthier now), but one step at a time.

They've also decided to try and work on their waistlines. So if you don't mind my saying so, don't be afraid to have a heart to heart talk with your friend that you are so happy she is moving back and you have great news that you are trying to lose weight by eating wisely and can she help support you with that? If not, BYOF - bring your own food! I love trying to bring something healthy and tasty to a party.

Good luck. And congrats on your weight loss so far.

Oh Piney,
CONGRATULATIONS on quitting smoking!!!

That is the BEST gift you can give yourself - bar none!
WOO HOO!!!

And I'm glad to see your ticker moving again, I know how hard it is to stare at it when it's not moving AND you're eating well! Our bodies do funny things some times, and not always what we want them to do!

You're doing great girl!!

Dear Dairy,

Doing really well today. I had to really do some calorie cycling as I as at 2000 calories on Saturday. I knew I was going to be high that day, but had forgotten to write down a couple of things, miscalculated on another and Voi La! I'm at 2 grand before you know it. I ate my lunch before I went to lunch today so that I could get in a longer walk. It was raining and 65 degrees and it felt like fall was coming. I didn't get too wet because the trail I walk on has a canopy of trees over it this time of year. I got in about 2.5 miles. I felt really good about that. I had Paul put my bike in the van so I could ride my bike tomorrow. I hate my bike, but I don't ride it enough to justify buying a new one.

Patty, your friend does sound just like mine. I am going to tell her to make me some healthy choices and I'm sure she will.

Nanders, I knew I had to start eating better when I quit smoking or I was going to blow up even more, but it actually gave me the boost to do it because if I could do that, I could do anything.

Scarlett, I've been missing you. Thanks for stopping by. You too C!

Ohappydaye--funny you should mention that movie. I'll have you know I was cutting the neck out of sweatshirts way before that movie came out. I had to stop doing it because it became so trendy after that. Same thing with Madonna. I had to stop wearing my lace gloves with the fingers cut out of them after she hit the scene!

M, thanks for taking time out of Walking Across America club to wish me well. I always appreciate you stopping by as you are one of my idols!

Take care ya'll. Thanks for the well wishes!

That's some fast walking!!

Way to go! No wonder that ticker is moving! 2.5 miles at lunch - that's awesome!! Congratulations!! :D

Hey Pineola, what style are you into at the mo? I feel a new look about to take off around the world - you trend setter you!!!!:)
I cant remember whose diary it was in, but someone was saying about a friend who loves to cook for them, and people suggested she let the friend know she was trying to lose weight, so her friend would be challenged to come up with yummy low-fat things. I thought that was a fantastic idea. People who love to cook, love coming up with things like that.

LOL @ your Sweatshirt comments. You should sue Jennifer Beals and Madonna for stealing your ideas!! How dare they!! You should get some money off of those items. LOL

Hope you're having a great Tuesday!! ...and since Diva Mommy has started a vote to have me become Jellybelly's asst. I will unofficially say...Don't forget your water!! ROTFLMBO :D :D

Dear Diary,

It's been awhile since I checked in. I really haven't had much to say lately. I've been reading other people's diaries mostly and just checking in once in awhile.

I had a pretty good week. A little bit of the high end on the calories per day, only over by less than 100 a couple of days. I only lost 1lb this week and I don't really think that is why. If I could do some business I would probably weigh less! I don't know what the heck is going on with that. My boyfriend says he thinks it is because I don't eat that much anymore, but I'm not sure.

I've been fair about the exercising. I decided instead of walking at my lunch I would ride my bike one day. I think I mentioned that before. Well that was pretty funny. I started down the trail...it was very nice and in the 60's. You can tell the leaves are getting ready to change. The ride was easy and beautiful. I went about 4 miles and decided I better turn around as I was on my lunch break. Well, going back I realized that I was going down hill the whole way and now I had to ride up the grade back. It was very hard and my heart was pounding so hard. I had to walk a couple of times. I thought it was going to get back to the office about 3pm! Well, it turned out I was just on time, but I got probably the best workout I have had in years, but it really made me see how out of shape I am. I think if I continue to ride I'll need a new seat as my cooch hurts!

I didn’t make my dancing goal for the month. I only did 4.5 of my 10 hour goal so I am back to my pound ticker. My goal for this next week is to make it through the long weekend without going over my calories and to exercise 1 hour every day. I am going to post what I did for exercise so that I keep posting in my diary. I don’t want to disconnect from it as it has been very helpful to me.

L-jay—I would say my fashion mode now is a little more hippy-ish. I like rich deep colors. I love velvet jackets etc…and I am in jeans whenever possible (although I do love a skort in the summer). I can’t say that I am setting any trends at this time although I’ll keep you posted! You never know what the future holds!

Yes, do share when your next fashion idea hits you.

If you are still having problems going, don't forget fiber, fiber, fiber + water. Now I just need to practice what I preach. I'm searching online now for a list of high fiber foods.... ok, here's one (it's a 6 page pdf): http://www.uhs.wisc.edu/docs/uwhealth_fiber_190.pdf#search='fiber%20vegetables'

Excerpt from it: (serving sizes are noted in the document)
Fruits
high fiber (over 3g per serving) - prunes, raisins, unpeeled apple, avocado, dates, unpeeled pear, blackberries
medium fiber - blueberries, orange, raspberries
lower fiber (but still good) - apricots, strawberries, peeled peach, sweet cherries, mango, applesauce, tangerine, nectarine, banana

Vegetables
high fiber (over 3g per serving) - brussel sprouts, canned pumpkin, potato with skin, lima beans, pork and beans, kidney beans
medium fiber - canned mushrooms, carrots, turnip greens, rhubarb, spinach, broccoli, green peas
lower fiber (but still good) - peppers, celery, onions, green beans, cauliflower, asparagus, peeled sweet potatoes

Bread, Cereal, Rice and Pasta
bran (including oat and wheat bran), brown rice, buckwheat, oatmeal, foods made with whole oats, peanut flour, rye flour, soybean flour, wild rice, whole wheat flour, mixed grain breads, cereals that contain 5g+ fiber per serving

I found a cookbook put out by the Kellogg company. It is all recipes of breads and things made out of All Bran Cereal. I made some Sweet Potato Bran Muffins that were pretty good. Today I am going to try to make home made Pitas. I'll let you know how it works out!

Yummy!

I love to cook - you will have to tell me how the pita bread turns out! The sweet potato bran muffins sound DIVINE!!!

Hey Piney... A pound is still a pound. That's something to be proud of regardless. And the bike ride sounds fabulous. Uphills can be tough but a great cardio and anaerobic muscles as it really gets your heart pumping and builds up your muscle mass. I'm proud of you!! *thumbs up*
