My Big Fat Journal

Wow, everyone seems to be walking.... you're doing great pineola! I'll admit, I'm a bit of the same way when it comes to the scale. I can be an impatient man sometimes and I wanna see results now damn it! lol But these things take time.... keep it up and you'll see your results :)

yummy! I love love love veggies!! I can do without fruit, though I do like it..it's hard to get into the routine of eating it. but veggies I could eat and eat :)

Great job on everything!

Stopped by finally

I read alot of your diary and you are doing awesome!!I am a firm
believer in walking your booty off literaly!I try to walk atleast 2 miles
everyday and I am shooting for 3-4 miles here soon.
We have down by the ohio river a flloodwall it is so pretty walking that
you can see the cincinnati skyline (bengals stadium reds stadium lights ect!)
and it's 1.5 miles to the end and 1.5 on the way back totaling 3 miles!
I know the 1 mile mark for when I can't get the whole 3 miles in cuz
hubby has to get to work so I do 2 miles.
Anyway keep up those walks you get gr8 results and you lose everywhere!

Dear Diary,

Another good day today. I ate a ton of food including a tasty low fat treat for dessert and only at 1376 calories for the day. I love those kind of days.

I also went for a nice walk with the dog...probably about 2 miles or so. I am no M2M, but walking a few days in a row is great progress for me. I need to get my dancing in this week, the month is almost over. If I don't get going I am going to be having a dance-a-thon on August 30th!!! I guess I could go in small increments. I think that is a good plan.....sorry, just thinking while I type.

I have a food issue that has come up. I have a friend who moved away about a year ago. She is moving back. She cooks all the time. Huge meals. You can't go over to her house without having a big spread of food shoved in your face. She always has mixed nuts out. She is big on appetizers as well. I don't know how I am going to go visit her. It will be ultimate test. At first I was thinking...I won't be able to go visit her!!! Of course that is ridiculous. I have to learn to live in the real world. I just know it is going to be a struggle.

L-Jay, that video has had me thinking a lot lately. I am so grateful that I still have my health. I am so lucky I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes. I could have really done some damage. I must have some good genes.

Scarlett, I hear you on the burrito bar. I think that is one of the reasons I like to go out and have Sushi. The places are usually ultra clean and you watch their every move.

M2M--I'm just sorry you had to read all that! Biologically speaking you are probably right. The more you come in contact with the more immunities you will build up, but I don't want the hepatitis! OK, sorry again.

Wishes, that is why I usually take one day a week and do some cooking to get things peeled, prepped an cooked. Otherwise they do just rot in my fridge.

Tammy, sound like a nice walk. I have been toying with moving to that area. I'm going to take a drive down soon to see if I like it.

Rotten, nicotine also increases your metabolism so when you quit you are not only shoving food in your mouth for the oral fix, but your metabolism is slowing down so you get hit with a double whammy! Thanks for your kind words! I didn't even know they made Hubba Bubba anymore!

Kino, Jelly and Mike--thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the encouragement and the reminder to drink my water!

pineola i hear ya on the friend who cooks, my family is like that, so just stick to yur guns and try to explaine all your hard work, and if they are insulted well thier insulted, our health is more important than a few hurt feelings over a fancy appetizer right? keep up the good work and try not to become a scale obsesed woman- i used to be that way, I would weight like 3 or 4 times a day, not any fun!!!

Yeah I reckon I have good genes too. Dont have any major health issues. I know what you mean about germs. I handle money all day and I'm perdantic about hand-washing. I know how easy it is to get flu's and viruses and frankly who has time to be constantly getting sick? It means time off work and makes weightloss that much harder. I wouldnt say I obsess about it, but if people were a bit more dilligent about hand washing, I do believe we would suffer less with minor irritating ailments like gastro and flu's etc.

Pineola, if she prides herself on her abilities as a cook, then why not flat out tell her you're really making an effort to lose weight. Explain to her what your doing and that she makes such tempting food. Then see if you can challenge her to make foods that you can eat without blowing your diet. She may take this as a challenge.

I agree with Cannon. As a cook, I like to make foods that my guests enjoy. And I don't mind making fat free or vegetarian or whatever dishes for them. Sides, she's your friend. she'll understand you're doing this for your health.

btw, good job on the food and the walking! :)

I think Cannon is on to something. Before you even go to her house, explain your situation. Use compliments in the process (her food is always so good you can never resist, etc.). I'll be she rises to the challenge. Also, you can always agree to meet at a restaurant or something. Good luck!!!:)

Totally agree with Initial C- -as someone who loves to cook, and will never have guests over without a spread prepared... Mention to her your healthy lifestyle - I would surely accommodate any friend... I have one buddy who's diabetic.. I had a great time learning new recipes and experimenting - it was a personal challenge..I have another buddy who's child is allergic to everything under the sun... that was another challenge that I enjoyed .... :D Anyone who loves to cook, will love to make something their guests will enjoy...

ooooh, you are so right about this. I never get skeeved out in the sushi place either. Although I blow up like a Macy's Day parade balloon the next day!!!

Everyone is right about your friend though. I bet once she knows about your new healthy lifestyle she would love to prepare stuff especially for you that will fit within your eating guidelines. Give it a try.

Have a good one!!

that is a fantastic idea. And think of all the new and exciting healthy stuff you'll get to try. What time does she cook dinner - I'll be there ;)

OMGoodness Pineola! You crack me up. Your friend sounds like my friends. When there is a dinner or gathering, you can gaurantee there will be a sinful spread.

This is just a suggestion, which I've tried and it works great. Bring a healthy appetizer, one you can eat, you can let her know you are bringing it. Then just eat that and try to stay clear of the rest of the appetizers. She'll get the hint hopefully. The last party I went to I brought a veggie tray with dip. I stayed away from the appetizers long enough to let the rest of the gals stuff their face and wipe out the temptation. haha

As for the dinner, that's going to be tough. You could always just tell her you have allergies. haha Say like wheat? That might cut out a whole bunch of bad things she might cook up. Or you could just be blunt and tell her you are trying to eat lean. Good luck sista!!

Dear Diary,

Man, it doesn't take long for your diary to get buried around here. I could hardly find it. Thanks for the suggestions ladies/gent. I will tell her to make me something good and healthy. It will be up to me to keep my hands off the buffalo wings, rack of ribs etc....

I had a really, really good week. I actually lost 2lbs. Very happy to see that since last week I didn’t lose anything and was pretty damn committed the whole week. I weigh 257 now, which means I have lost 26lbs since June 5th when I joined. I consider this no small feat since I had just quit smoking as well and I was (notice the past tense) a big binger. The last time I weighed that much was probably about 1991. It was also around that time I stopped weighing myself. I am thinking now that may have been a big mistake. The action made it much easier for me to be in denial about my obesity. I don’t recommend it. I don’t think being a slave to the scale is a good idea either, but going years without weighing was ridiculous in hindsight.

This week was perfect eating wise. Stayed well within my calorie range all week. I was even a little low on some days and had pizza tonight for dinner to make up for it. 2 pieces with a very thin crust, but I didn't feel guilty as I know I am right on target for the weekly average and might even end up on the low end of my allowance.

I want to thank everyone who has been my friend on this forum. I have to do all the work, but it makes it much easier to have some folks to prod you along and check in on you.

I had lots of activities planned for this weekend, including a long rafting trip. It has been cancelled because we are supposed to have storms all weekend. I guess I’ll have to hit the gym for my exercise…..yuck!

Wow, I had no idea you were quitting smoking at the same time. That's so impressive :) Congrats on losing so much weight too :)
