MasterofJune's Diary *There is no spoon*

Hi. Just thought I'd stop by and see how you're doing. I was thinking about how your wife thinks she has two kids..lol. How does the saying go? Men are just little boys in grown up bodies? lol Anyway, I don't think I've heard anything childish in your diary thus far--you are men as far as I'm concerned. :)

"Just like in Shawshank when Andy crawls through the sewer and comes out clean on the other side."

Ooh a fellow fan of Shawshank too.

Indeed MasterofJune we will come out clean and healthy as long as we keep at it and realize...

"All it takes is pressure and time".

To reach our goals.

Hey Kimberly - Yeah pretty much that is the saying. I also like the one that says "The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys."

Steve - That was a good quote. Pressure and time my man...That is what has brought us here.

BTW, I love your new signature line, and I'm glad you are quoting the original trilogy. Lucas turned Yoda into an almost comic relief kind of character in the prequels.

Anyway, I don't think I've heard anything childish in your diary thus far--you are men as far as I'm concerned.

Kimberly...That is all about to change at the moment. Sorry.

*Warning* the following parts of this message has nothing to do with lifestyle changes, weight loss or even philosophy, and may be the rantings of a lunatic. :jump:

You wouldn't say that I was that mature if you ever see me when the Cardinals are playing the Cubs. I loathe the Cubs. Actually, that is the one thing I allow myself to hate in my life.:boxing:

Last time we played them I literally was screaming at the tv, pounding on the floor in the living room, and whining.

I hope there are no cubbie fans here on the forum.

If I have offended you I am sorry.

But the Cubs still suck. lol

By the way I noticed that you and Steve are from Michigan. Even though I was rooting for my Cardinals last October in the series...The Tigers have some of the best players in baseball, and I respect them tremendously. Curtis Granderson and Magglio Ordonez are two of baseballs best at the moment. Not to mention that firearm you have as a closer. Joel Zumaya is awesome.

If I have offended you I am sorry. I'm not much into baseball, but my grandma is a rabid Tigers fan. Her #2 team is the Cubs, though. So I will be offfended for her..lol She luvs her Cubbies.

Yeah, I was disappointed when the Tigers blew it last year. I really thought they were going to win the WS. Maybe this year.

Thanks, I just love how well the quote works in transition from rock polishing to weight loss lol.

Without doubt ESB was the best use of Yoda in any of the trilogies.

That said I loved the hell out of ROTS but am with the majority of fans in hating prequels 1 and 2.

There were good moments in the first two prequels but unfortunately good moments do not translate to good movies.

Ahh my late father would be happy to hear that as a big tigers fan.

I myself was never into sports.

Just "sports entertainment" as Vince Mcmahon would call it heh heh.

Pro wrestlers like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels rather than sports teams are who I would call my heroes.

ESB was awesome, but ANH was my favorite and always will be. ROTS was good, but too much JarJar. lol.

Off for my walk now.

You may notice that I updated my ticker. My first goal weight is 250, but in all reality, my goal is 200, and always has been. Honestly, before I started this forum, I thought that I would never see 200. With your support, I now know I will. Thanks guys.

Ok...Another day down.

I am trying to eat what I need to but honestly, I am getting full so fast, it has become harder to eat what I need to on a daily basis.

Trying to balance everything with the right amounts of proteins, veggies, and other stuff is becoming harder and harder. So far with 3 meals today (one of them being a huge lunch) I still have about 900 calories to intake.

This would have been so easy before, but it is getting really hard for me to eat that much. I am having to eat almost continuously just to get to my 1700 calorie limit everyday. My energy levels are through the roof though, as this is Monday and I have been flying all day long.

Well, it's time for my walk, which has a really funny story about it.

I have been walking on a trail here in my hometown, and I thought that I was walking about 4 miles a day. WRONG!

I have been walking about 1.6 miles a day.

I read the sign wrong. I thought it said 7 miles.

It said .7 miles.

I thought I was walking about 3+ miles, as I thought I was at the halfway point of the trail. I was at the end. I knew something was rotten in Denmark, because It was taking a real short time to do so.

DUH!

Still, it's about 30 minutes of straight exercise a day, so I am still doing good, just not ruling the roost like I thought I had. You guys call me a deep thinker. That doesn't necessarily mean smart.

Don't worry too much about the 1700 calories Master.

When I was in weight watchers as a youngster I believe they took their calorie recommendations for men directly from medical professionals and that number was 1500 calories a day and no more than 35 grams of fat per day so if you are full on that much or a bit less than you are doing well.

This forum gets a bit too hung up on telling people to eat more calories.

People should only increase their calorie limit when they are plateauing or getting dizzy and tired or too hungry from not feeling they've eaten enough and have already drank enough water in the day to make sure that their body is really hungry and not thirsty.

LOL, about the trail by the way.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: That is funny. If you could walk four miles in 30 minutes, you would be flying! I walked 4 miles yesterday and it took me 57 min--which is pretty fast for a walk. But, you've been getting in 30min of exercise a day--and that's great. Loved the Hamlet reference, too.:jump:

I wish I had your problem with being too full to eat. I have been wanting to eat everything in sight for the last week.

Another progress update for you.

5 more pounds gone this week, from my last weigh in last Wednesday.

I don't know how it is falling off so fast, but I'll take it!!!

That is a great story about the trail.

You're right. It is still good that you are getting some exercise every day - and a trail walk is a great sustainable way to do that.

YES!!

Five more pounds!! That is fantastic!:jump:

Hello Dan,

Your diary is so honest and I see so much of myself in what you and others have written here. You and Steve really are excellent writers and I've really enjoyed it.

I try to ride my bike to work a couple of times a week. It's 12 miles and takes me about 1.5 hrs to do it so you can imagine I'm a little sweaty when I get there. I bring in a couple changes of clothes on Monday and I keep a small gym bag in a drawer of my desk with a bar of soap, wash cloth, small towel, hair dryer, a couple pairs of clean underwear, some make up and a brush and small blow dryer. That way I can clean up a little and have some fresh clothes to put on for work. Maybe you could wear a t-shirt and take another for work or something like that. I have to leave myself about 30 mins to cool down and clean up once I get to work, but that way I can get my workout done and keep my friends at work :).

You're going to do great here. And you're already inspiring others to follow your example.

Felici - Thanks for your support. That is a pretty embarrassing story about the trail, but we are supposed to be honest, right?

Donna - Thanks so much for the kind words. I wish I could do what you do in taking clothes to work, but mornings are baaad for me. I am a zombie. Today, I ran in and out of the house collecting things I had forgotten about four times, and showed up a whole minute before I was supposed to be there. I don't do mornings that well.

plumpDad - I really dig your videos. I am doing a similar thing, but mostly for myself at this point.

I figure that If I can go back and see my vlogs, I will remember why I am doing this in the first place.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support.

Congrats on the 5lb loss! That is fantastic! I'm soo jealous! You will be caught up with me in no time at all.

Here's why you lose so fast:
1. The more you have to lose, the faster you lose it. The closer you get to your goal weight, the slower it will come off.
2. You're male, hence you have more muscle than we women do and it comes off faster b/c your metabolism is higher. SOOO NOT FAIR!! :rotflmao:

Being open here is helpful for both the writer and the reader I think - regardless of whether it's about something we wish wanted to happen, or wish hadn't happened!

I totally get it about the mornings! I don't quite know what's happening to my hormones just after I wake up, but I often feel like a whole different person. I did start out here thinking I might have to change other parts of my life to get that fixed first, before I could manage the diet and exercise thing properly. However, so far it's still the change of last resort for me and I've been very glad to find that I could manage without it.

Thanks Jeremy.

Yours was the first diary I read, and you definitely gave me some inspiration to get this thing going.

those who try tend to fail, those who DO succeed

This is true. I have tried long enough. It never was enough. It was time to take initiative and do it this time. Trust me brother...I will make this happen. The metal hand in my avatar speaks that loud and clear \m/

You can quote me on that.

Paul!!! You look great man! That new avatar made me almost spit water all over the screen! Keep it up bro!

Thoughts for the day -

After starting this change in my life, I have been looking back on the past. I thought about what would be a normal day of food for me without any exercise at all and here is what I came up with.

A couple of big bowls of cereal with 2 % milk. Preferably Cap'n Crunch or something like that. 2 cups of coffee with a lot of sugar, and half and half.

Lunch would consist of whatever the kids were eating at school that day, but in double portions.

Example. 2 1/4 lb cheeseburgers with mayo and ketchup. big salad with bacon, eggs, cheese and French dressing. Large order of French Fries with mayo & ketchup. 2 cartons of milk. 2 pieces of chocolate cake.

3:30 snack - big bowl of chips and a soda.

dinner - 2 big pieces lasagna, 4 pieces garlic butter bread. Big bowl of ice cream.

Before bed snack - bowl of cereal, maybe two.

Rinse and repeat.

Thinking about this, I feel sick to my stomach. I can't believe I let it go that long.

Off for my walk.
