Journey, Not A Destination

I've been grabbed before. Even in front of my now wife. But even guys do it. If you look like you workout, you are garenteed to get prodded. It's never been offensive to me, but I think it's a lot different for a man.

That's an interesting point. Although, I'd probably propose that when a man is grabbing you, it's either not sleazy or it's fake-sleazy. And usually when it happens to me, there's alcohol involved and a lot of drunk young men just get grabby, like the lower part of their brain is, "That looks nice and soft and I wanna touch it so I'm gonna." I suppose working out helps. OK! It's off to the gym for me now, have a great day Steve! :D Be back later!

Ummm.... you try going through a busy bar and have someone straight up grab your titty. (Big difference betw/ female titty and male titty, incase you didn't notice, ass man.) I'm sorry, but if you grab, I punch. Really... it's as simple as that. I think my reaction time is just too quick at times. Oh well.. that's life. :D

Umm, Whats a "york pattie"?

A hot Irish guy from New York. HA! jk

York Peppermint Patties-- chocolate outside and D-licious minty inside... yummmy.

Ah alright, I don't eat candy very often so excuse my ignorance.
Thanks ;).

You health nut. jk
Haha - Yeah, in some cases its that. In other its financial issues.

Usually, when I eat something. I can't help but ask - "what does this do for/to me?" - If all I can think about is how it "hurts" me and my goals. It becomes hard to enjoy this "candy" or whatever else it may be.

And, once I read the ingredient list...Well, it ruins it for me.

Question for you.

Hi there! I'm newish. Natalie Jo thought my calories might be too low and told me to come ask you on your diary...so here I am. I thought I had calculated it right, but maybe not.

Lately I've been trying to stay around 1400-1500 calories. I'm 5'6", 165lbs and 21. Is that too low? I'm not working out a lot yet because I've been sick with a cold/cough since I started and I don't want to until I'm well again. But once I do start I'm going to try and do pilates at home, lots of ball exercises, maybe start swimming and I'm still uncertain about other cardio because of a knee problem I've been having...

I lost weight last year while working out at least 3 times a week on an eliptical with interval training until I started having knee pain. I'm afraid to go to the doctor, which is really odd for me, because I don't want to end up with some crappy diagnosis like "just rest it" because that's all I've done since then!

Let me know what you think. Thanks a bunch in advanced!

Note to self.... ahhh, never mind.

Oh, and you must've missed the part where I typed it's different for men. :p

And I've been touched before by women in a sleazy demeanor. And that is offensive.

Amen sister.

I used to be like that.

Now I eat whatever the fuck I want. And I still reach my goals.

Could I eat healthier? Probably, but I figure I get joy out of some of the 'bad' things I eat so why cut it out completely?

Could I reach my goals faster in terms of physique? Nah. I still am accounting for cals and make sure I get the essentials in. Beyond that, it's fair game majority of the time.

Damn... that's just way too much internal conflict, honey. haha I see it this way.. "why hello, dark chocolate... oh... you want to be in my tummy? Umm alright!"

Internal conflict= nil. HA!

I also look at it like this... "Will this make my booty fatter or hotter...?" Fatter= eating a whole frickin bag of candy, Hotter= eating a few. I go with the latter. haha!

Ummm yah and I wouldn't consider those types as "women." I like to call them "slutbags." This is my motto when it comes to Sean, "You touch his junk, get ready to get punked." I'm just to aggressive for my own good! hahaaa!

Hi :)

Nope. Especially since you aren't doing much right now. 14-16 calories is a rough estimate for maintenance, where calories in = calories out. Since you aren't doing much, your maintenance may be around 12-13 calories per pound.

That would put you at around 2000 calories. So you are looking at a 25-30% deficit which is fine.

Just remember to match your intake to your activity. Once you start feeling better and exercising more, you should eat more too to fuel the activity and maintain a sane deficit.

There are plenty of low/no impact activities that shouldn't bother your knee. Do you belong to a gym?

I lost weight last year while working out at least 3 times a week on an eliptical with interval training until I started having knee pain.

Strange, most people move to the elliptical if their knee bothers them since it's impact on the knees, or lack thereof I should say.

I'm afraid to go to the doctor, which is really odd for me, because I don't want to end up with some crappy diagnosis like "just rest it" because that's all I've done since then!

If it continues to affect you to the degree where you can't workout at all, I think seeing a qualified doc would be worth it!

See, Krista is too laid back. She'd be pissed but would keep it to herself. She doesn't have to worry though... I'm plenty aggressive enough for the two of us.

haha! Too funny, because Sean's the same way. He's very laid back. He'd be pissed, get quiet, and would keep it to himself for a whole night. I'm the aggressive one in the relationship.

Thanks for the response Steve.
I do belong to a gym, the REC at my college...great gym. Anywho, I'd be swimming there and that's where I worked out all the time last year (on the elipticals). I used to take pilates there last year too, but I have no time this year with my course schedule. So I should match eating what I burn when I start working out again to maintain a 30% deficit? Man I already feel like I'm eating more than I used to lol. Definately more often than I used to. How can I figure out how much I burn with things like swimming or pilates?

Yea, being too drastic with your food restriction relative to your maintenance intake can lead to some problems. Some being:

-yo-yo dieting
-metabolic slowdown, which is inevitable but better controlled with sane deficits
-muscle loss, which becomes more of a real issue the less fat you are.... and right now you aren't toting around an insanely high amount of extra fat, relatively speaking
-controlling/regulating satiety
-etc

A deficit is a deficit no matter how you slice it. So if you increase activity, you should increase intake. Follow me?

Most people make the mistake of starving themselves plus killing themselves in the gym.... and this is simply a recipe for metabolic disaster and staleness in fat loss.

Man I already feel like I'm eating more than I used to lol. Definately more often than I used to.

How were you eating?

And your metabolism is dynamic in nature. If you are eating more it will upregulate and what seems like a lot now, won't later. Hopefully, that is, depending on how you were eating.

How can I figure out how much I burn with things like swimming or pilates?

Just estimate.

Truthfully, I never factor in how many calories I expend through exercise. I mean I simply pick a caloric goal and know in general how much is enough/excessive in terms of exercise. Based on what my weight/physique is doing I know if I have to adjust my intake up or down.
