Is this normal?

Okay, it's been a long while since i've really exercised...like..2-3 years. Sure, I've had the basic exercise everyone gets (going to and from work etc.) but nothing to really push me, no sports, no jogging, nothing. So I'm getting concerned about my health (feeling much older than I am, I'm 19) and I've started exercising again. Here's the question. After running for maybe only 10 mins I feel TIRED/shaky/nauseous/it sort of hurts to breathe/headache. Are these all normal symptoms after not having exercised for so long or is there potentially something else wrong?

What kind of shape are you in, honestly?

If you are pussing yourself too hard too soon? Yes, I have experienced all of these symptoms when I push myself too hard. As they say, you really ought to see a doctor before starting a new exercise regime, just to make sure.

How fast are you running? If you have never run before start with a nice easy gait (about 5mph) then gradually work up your time and speed. At your age it shouldn't take to long, but just because you are 19 doesn't mean you should be able to run an 8 minute mile right outta the shoot.

Also, how hydrated are you? If you do not drink water all day it really makes exercise tough on your body. Are you exercising first thing in the morning. I drink a glass of water and have a good quality granola bar about 1/2 hour before I work out in the morning (it's a 1/2hr drive to the gym), otherwise I get dehydrated and hungry/sick to my stomach when I work out.

hmm, i think I just sort of hopped on the treadmill without drinking or eating..an hour-ish after I woke up. I wasn't sure how fast or how long I should run so i just put the speed to how i thought I would normally run outside (a little more than a jog) and went until i couldn't go anymore (which wasn't very long..5mins ish)

trainer yea I thought eating before u exercised was a bad thing? like stomach cramps or w/e...sorry if I sound like a n00b this whole thing is new to me

Ok, I went on the treadmill again today after following the advice given here, I have to say I did feel alot better this time, although I did have a little bit of cramping. In any case..I think I will reach my goals if I be consistent. ty all very much for the help and support
