From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Thanks Cate and Vee!

Turns out the knee is infected. I got a shot in the booty and antibiotics that I have to take every 6 hours. If it doesn't get better by Monday or if it gets worse they are going to have to cut it open. They x-rayed and said it looked like I have an abscess and if so the antibiotics may not work. I have a fever and all of my joints hurt. On the bright side a peg leg would give me pirate cred. Arrrgh!

Poor ye Quercus. woe ye get ye knee fixed. That sucks!

I can't believe that I missed your birthday!! I'm so sorry. You're just a baby........in comparison...... xo Cate

:( for the infected knee, I really hope it´ll get better with the AB so you´ll avoid the being-laid-up that comes with cutting. Can imagine your frustration, please keep us informed and stick with the clean eating especially now that your body needs all the help you can get.

PS I love the twinkle-story.

I can't imagine the horror of someone having to cut my knee open. I would freak out. I hope it didn't got worse and it wasn't necessary to do that.

P.s: Happy belated birthday! I hope you get well soon Q.

Hi everybody! The knee wasn't getting better with both anibiotics so they cut it open and drained it. They then packed it with gauze to keep it open so that it would continue to drain until the infection gets cleared up. That means that at least once a day my awesome wife gets to remove and repack the incision. I have pain medicine, but having a ribbon of gauze stuffed and twisted into a swollen incision with the butt end of a sterile wooden swab is just as much fun as it seems.

The procedure itself was down right gory. Towels on the floor change and the surgeon having to change clothes after gory. The changing of the gauze involves some draining too which is a bit messy, but I'm guessing it will be less so each time.

Needless to say I'm just layed up. I've been sleeping a lot and watching movies. I'm reading in the windows between groggy and pain. I'm eating comfort food, but I'm not eating too much or often. 10 days to 2 weeks before it's healed. I don't know how long until I'm back running. As cruddy as the repacking is I actually feel better otherwise.

Back to the surgeon tomorrow morning for a follow up.

Take care everybody!

Hey Quercus, thanks for logging in despite the crappiness! I´m sorry they had to cut you up but really glad it´s being taken care of. Praise to the Q-wife, too! Hope it´ll get better very quickly, running will likely take a proper while but then again: corpses don´t run at all so you´re waaaaaaaaay in the lead already.

All the best!

I agree with LaMa- thanks for letting us know. You poor thing! :( It sounds like a horrendous procedure but so glad you're feeling better already. An enforced rest sounds like a damned good excuse to read some good books to me. I must admit I don't need an excuse! Hope you heal quickly & get a good report, xo Cate
PS sending some serious wifely kudos to yours as well :Angel_anim:

Thanks LaMaria!

Thanks Cate!

Thanks MrVee!

I passed on the well wishes to the wife. As of this morning I am back to work and more importantly I don't have to pack the knee with gauze anymore. It feels much better without the gauze in and now the cut can heal up. It still hurts a bit and I have to keep it clean and take it easy so it can heal up.

I ate like crap and did nothing while this has been going on. I look forward to getting back on track though I may avoid the scale for a bit. My clothes still fit so no major rebound. I'm sure my body was burning up some extra calories and I did still eat healthy food the whole time just with copious amounts of junk/comfort food too.

I'm not ready to run or even walk too much, but that will change soon. I am feeling better and not stressed about it anymore.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Friday! I'll try to catch up on logs this weekend.

That's good news that you're well & truly on the mend. Enough of the junk food though Q. Thanks for keeping us updated & take care, cheers, Cate

Oh wow Q. I'm so sorry to hear what a bad time you've had! Do you know what caused the infection?

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Sounds like you will have to be careful for a bit, but that is better than preventing the infection from healing.

Hopefully you will be as good as new, sooner rather than later!

Hey Q, so glad to hear you´re feeling better! Good thing you´re giving the construction crews in your body time to do the work properly and I hope we´ll be reading from you more often again :)

Thanks Cate! I ate well yesterday.

Thanks Jade! I fell over a month before. it e and got some dirt and tiny bit of gravel in there. It had almost completely healed before it the swelling started. It was weird, but I hadn't done anything else to it and they saw some it of foreign material when they drained it.

Thanks LaMa! I'm fighting the urge to push it. It's itchy today which I feel is a healing itchy. Being 100 degrees and humid out makes taking it easy an easier option for me. I plan on walking at the gym this week.

Glad to see you're on the mend Q. It seems like a lot of us have had some issues this summer, but it also seems like we're all doing well to try and regain our focus.

And you didn't get PICTURES of them cleaning and draining your knee?! I am unimpressed!! What good is it TELLING us it's gory if you're not willing to SHOW that it's gory.

Yes, those foreign objects left in their can definitely do the trick in getting things to swell back up again for sure! Glad it's getting better! Hope you can work your way back on track nicely.

Vee it's going to be a slow trip back for me I'm afraid. I am doing better with the diet and I walked a lot yesterday.

I have gore pics, but I won't post them. Here are a couple of the knee pre gore.

I rocked argyles and blue paper shorts no?

Gym today if I am up for it. I woke up in a soaking sweat last night and had fitful sleep after. I don't know what that was about.

Walking yesterday left both of my knees in bad pain. Like achy arthritic pain. I hope that goes away soon. I had on good shoes, but all the walking was on hard flooring and concrete.

So today: Eat well. Drink lots of water. No pain meds (sleep problems?). Gentle exercise. Early to bed. I'd like to mow, but the cut is still open and my legs probably aren't up for it after the gym. It's supposed to rain today anyway.

I've got a good bit of reading done while laid up and continuing books that I have going is helping me to take it easy.

O my, that does not look nice. Glad you got rid of it! Achy arthritic pain doesn´t sound like your body is jumping for joy though, maybe a couple more days of drinking lots and eating well while reading? Reading is nice, one thing being laid up is truely good for!

Take it easy Q! Love the blue paper shorts/argyle look :D Hey, you can see that you have lost heaps of weight though. Be careful at the gym won't you xo Cate

LaMa I'm taking a break from reading to type this.

That's very sweet of you to say Cate!

So I put off the gym yesterday and that was a good move. the cut has closed up and my joints felt much better today.

Run
30 min
153 bpm avg hr

Felt okay. I took it easy which made the HR seem high, but my body has been through a lot and I haven't done anything in a while. I should sleep like a baby. I ate fine today. Super happy I could run at all!
