From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Well done on the run Q. I'm glad you decided against the gym. You'll be back to where you were soon & getting fitter & fitter all the time. Our Lopi is an Endeavor. It's a beauty! Our Italian Espresso pot is sitting on it right now. I am loving short blacks first thing in the morning. Unlike the Italians I don't add sugar.

Thanks Vee and Cate!

Our Lopi is the Patriot. It's very nice but i wish we had one a bit larger.

I have been working on my diet and doing lots of stretching and walking the last few days.

Tonight was ~55 minutes of beginner yoga. My knees are rather sore and the legs and back were really tight. I feel better now, but I couldn't do some of the postures properly so I improvised a bit. Hot work in the field for the rest of the week. :(

I used to love Yoga! Improvising is much better than hurting yourself. We're coming into some lovely early Spring weather. I love Spring, even with my sniffling & sneezing! Cheers, Cate

Well Cate I'm hoping for early Fall here, but no luck yet.

The knee held up pretty well Vee.

So the "good" knee continues to pain me. I managed a half hour on the stationary bike last night and I will be on the recumbent bike at the gym tonight.

I've struggled with my eating, but I'm making progress now.

1. I'm weighing again. 307 YUCK!
2. I put our television away so no more evening wasted streaming shows or watching movies.
3. I'm back to veganism. I ate pretty well last week while in the field, but while I was laid up and a while after I ate terribly.
4. Gym bag is in the car.
5. We plan to start walking during our lunch break in the mall while it's hot and then in a park once Fall arrives.

So I have some ground to make up and I'm rather surprised that I can still wear the same clothes as 294 (they are tight). The real key that's still missing is running. I hope the knee will ease up soon and I'll be back in business. I hope to shed some of this weight quickly and maybe that will help the knee.

So I walked for 40 minutes yesterday at lunch. I rode a recumbent bike for a half hour at the gym and then I ran a little over .6 mile on the indoor track. The run was very slow and felt pretty good.

I did well until dinner and then I overate. I didn't plan well and had dinner at nearly 9 last night and I was starving by that point and ate a huge meal.

I've packed healthy snacks for today unlike yesterday. I think today will be stretching or yoga, but definitely a rest day for the legs.

Biking loosened it up. It's the only reason i could run. Pain is specific to deep flexion and descending stairs once it's loosened up. I walked down stairs right after my cool down with the least pain since it started. I've just been getting weak and over relying on the left leg which has had several severe sprains over the years.

The wife and I bought a book on running anatomy that has recommendations for basic exercises focused on being a healthy runner. I think this sort of cross training plus my yoga will keep me less injury prone. I am starting out with setting up my lifting space tonight and if I have time/energy then I will do some exercises too.

Knees felt good and feel good today. Diet was great yesterday. I'm back.

So TJ Max rarely has a brand of jeans that I first bought at a Seattle goodwill and love. Lucky jeans sell for about $140 retail and I would never pay that much. I managed over the years to purchase a loose fit 38 which got too big and I currently have a regular fit 38 that fits. Today I found a pair of boot cut Lucky's in 36X34 for $29 and decided to buy them as goal pants. To my surprise they fit very well already! I'm very pleased about that.

So there is a bit of progress or lack of progress lost that the scale doesn't reflect. I'm hoping that the weight will be considerably down Saturday, but I'm celebrating this regardless.

Woo Hoo to the boot cut Lucky's! The scales will catch up soon. I'm having non scale victories too Q & looking forward to the scales showing the loss. We are doing this!

That's great about the smaller sized pants fitting well!
Have you thought about orthotics?I don't know much about them, except that my mom really feels they are beneficial, but if you are possibly stepping down unevenly that could translate into your knees becoming more stressed (on top of your injury)

Congrats on the clothes victory. I've been at 34 jeans for far too long. I want to make that breakthrough down to 32s and beyond. Maybe eventually get down to a 29 or even 28 and start fashion modeling. Off to go work on my pout. :)

Thanks Cate! I'm on today and really feel like I'm on top of things diet wise. We'll see come Saturday.

Mystic I have not looked into those. I have a bad gait initially because of the knee pain and then i even out and it feels fine. If I would warmup up properly I think it would get better. I think I am aggravating the knee running like a goober for the first few minutes. If that doesn't fix it I'll look into the orthotics for sure.

I don't know if I'll ever be in 34s. My body is weird and I'm not sure how I can be in the 36s now.

8/30/14
run 30 min 2.5 miles
My wife ran her first 5K distance!

Dumbell stuff, yoga, and stretching on off days.

9/1/14
run 30 min 2.5 mile

My wife saw her OBGYN at the gym and she was so pleased with her improvement since surgery that she invited her to do a color run 5K with her!

I haven't been on the computer much which means I am staying active. I packed up the TV 8/25 and didn't want the computer to become the surrogate.

Don't get too hung up on pant size if you never get to the size you 'want'. Not only do brands vary a lot in sizing between one another (even within the same brand it can vary wildly) but everyone's body is shaped differently. I have a friend who's in decent shape, does triathlons and marathons, but she'll never be a really small size just because she has quite a wide frame. So she looks narrow from the side, but head on she is wider than 'average' not due to fat or anything, just due to her build. I also have a friend that has to wear a size larger pants than she actually needs in the waist, because it's hard to find jeans long enough for her legs in her actual size.

Good job to you and your wife on all the exercise!

Great job on staying active... and congrats to your wife on her first 5k distance. Sounds like you guys are doing great! :)

Mystic, the focus on pant size is because that's about the only progress I've seen lately. I feel confident the scale will have good news on Saturday though.

Hi Jen! I'm really struggling to get back on track. Running again, but with knee pain and trying hard to not overeat following being laid up and eating like a pig. I couldn't help the being laid up, but the pig part is all me. Water under the bridge and I am getting back to normal now. My wife kept running while I was out and that made it so much easier to get back to it. I'm happy to have you around again.

I walked for 15 minutes last night and did some high knees and butt kickers to try to loosen up my knee for a run. After a super slow mile it was feeling worse rather than better so I pulled the plug.

I only tried the back to back run because my knee was feeling a bit better following the 2.5 miles Monday and I thought with proper warm up I'd be good. Very wrong. I have to have rest between each run until this resolves.

Diet was very good the last couple of days. I've been struggling with being hungry eating an appropriate amount of calories which means I've adapted to having too many.

I feel sure that losing weight is what's going to get the knee back to normal. Nothing else seems to be work

Keep nursing that knee along and it should improve. As for being hungry, that's a tough one but it's good that you've managed to control it anyway. Maybe a little extra fat in the diet might help a little (unless you've already done that).

It is awesome that you and your wife are doing this together, I think that you were an inspiration to her! I know injuries are frustrating, but it sounds like you are finding other ways of staying active, which is great!

I admire your fortitude! I'm trying to find some of my own and seeing that you and others are sticking with this is very helpful to me!
