From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

I will take some credit for inspiring her initially, but lately she has been keeping me going. She's lost a lot of weight and gained a lot of muscle. She's looking good and getting better every day. I feel like I'm trying to catch up. I wish I hadn't lost so much ground to overdoing things and eating like crap while I was hurt. Nothing to be done with it but to go forward.

It's fantastic that your wife has taken up the baton Q! Good for her. Onwards & upwards mate. We can all do this. We're a great team. :D

Thanks Cate! I keep trying to get her to come on here, but she isn't interested. She's quite private. She does well without the community so good for her.

I did a lot of ITB stretching last night and that really seems like where the issue lies. I'm so tight in my hips/glutes that it takes a lot of stretching to have a normal range of motion and my knees felt immediately better after stretching.

Didn't know what ITB was, figured you were stretching while putting down 10 bucks on #5 at the 6th race at Aqueduct. And so Google was my friend:

Interesting stuff. Hope the stretching keeps you improving.

I'm terrible about stretching and very non flexible! I'm sure it would help me in all sorts of ways to incorporate stretching everyday into my life, but I just HATE stretching! SO boring and annoying haha. I really hate yoga. No thank you haha.

I wear orthotics these days & should have decades ago! You do get used to them. Comfort & lack of pain comes before vanity any day.

I do enjoy yoga. I just have to make time for it.

I'd run in a purple tutu if I was pain free for wearing it. I just don't want to go to the doctor and I have no more time off at the moment.

Yesterday
Run
39 minutes some odd seconds (forgot and will update)
172 BPM avg HR
3.1 Miles 5K

First 5K since the kneebola. Worked way too hard for such a lousy time, but I was pleased to complete the distance. My knee was a problem for a bit, but eventually loosened up. I stretched first and walked a mile afterwards.

The knee is sore today, but better than after the last 2.5 miles.

My knee is sore, but okay. I have to stop ignoring my HR and keep my runs in an appropriate range if I want it to stop bothering me. 70-85% is 127-154 BPM. Last run was 95%. How do I expect to heal with that kind of strain? I can be such a dufus sometimes.

I just finished yoga and a bodyweight exercise routine. The bodyweight stuff was a lot harder than I thought which means I really have to make it a regular thing. It's supposed to be designed for runners. Today is supposed to be week 1 day 1 but I will need to repeat it a few times. I may go for a run later if I feel up to it and the weather holds.

Yesterday I worked really hard out in the yard. Tomorrow I'm out in the woods counting trees. I took Friday off with only some stretching.

What yoga do you do Q? Do you have a DVD or book? Hope you had a good day tree counting & your knee starts to feel much better soon! xo Cate

Adriene is an actress/yogi from Austin, Texas. She is so calming and very much about you doing it your way. "Find what feels good" is her mantra.

It was rather hot and trees got counted. I saw 2 water moccasins (venomous snakes) this morning. Bothe were heading away from me which is my favorite thing for a venomous snake to do.

Run
30 mins
151 BPM

Didn't track distance. Not pushing as hard made the knees feel better. I also iced them after I got home which really helped too.

More fieldwork tomorrow and yoga in the evening.

The schedule:
M run
T yoga
W run
Th weights
F run
S wildcard - yoga and/or running or day off or other activity
Su weights

This schedule is flexible and subject to change and rearrangement as wanted/needed, but we needed a framework.

That must be really scary to run across venomous snakes while running (or at any time really!)! I've thankfully never run across something venomous and I think I'd like to keep it that way!
Looks like you have a great schedule to follow!

I ran on the indoor track. I work as a biologist and spend a lot of time in the woods. You get somewhat used to snakes, but I'm certainly cautious around the venomous ones. The big rattlesnakes in south Texas bother me the most because they are huge and its difficult to see your feet or move quickly in the type of brush where I generally see them. That and the nearest medical care is never closer than an hour drive and sometimes several hours.

Honestly mosquitoes, ticks, and chiggers are a bigger problem than snakes. Thorns, spins, and prickles aren't my favorite either. Today was heat, a tick, and some thorns but mostly the heat.

Did my yoga tonight. ~30 minutes. I was very tight and sore from bouncing around on an ATV and walking on very rough dried mud.

Feral hogs do a lot of damage to wetlands and this time of year the mud dries hard and makes it rough going. They actually killed young trees in some areas that will now have to be replanted. Feral hogs reproduce faster than they can be trapped and hunted to the detriment to the native ecosystem and agriculture.

Is it bad that all I thought about while reading this was bacon? haha!

The wild hogs here aren't fat enough for bacon. They are rather tasty though. They have more flavor than store bought pork and are a bit leaner. They still have enough fat to make skinning and butchering them a slippery business. I still eat wild game on rare occasion and I have some piggy I need to grind up with the remaining deer in the deep freeze and make breakfast and/or summer sausage and clear out room for deer season in November.

I had a long day in the field that turned into a crummy evening when the spring on the trailer I was hauling broke and we were stranded in a ditch waiting for a tow truck and replacement trailer to put the 4-wheelers into. I left the office at 8 after arriving at 7:30.

I didn't manage anything after work. The wife got a run in while she waited for me. I did a fair amount of hole digging and walking in the field so it wasn't a loss on the exercise front. I'm ready for Fall.

Oh boy...this does not sound like a fun day! But it does sound like you get lots of exercise! I'm with you though...fall cannot get here fast enough! Hope the knee keeps getting better and better!

I was sore all over yesterday and didn't sleep well the night before. I took the day off from exercise and got to bed early last night. I feel WAY better today. I'll go for a run after work. I think I'll go camping this weekend as our first Fall weather is supposed to be here. I'm so excited!

I'm excited for Fall too. It's my favorite season! It's hoodie weather, the leaves are gorgeous, hot cocoa, Halloween.... Camping not so much..haha! I hope you have fun though! :)
