From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Oh wow that is so beautiful! That looks like it could be a painting with those 2 chairs just waiting for people to come and sit in them!

Thanks everybody!

Growing up in woods like these at the dead end of a dirt road is how I came to be a biologist. Nature was my neighbor. I like the solitude and woods, but I miss the culture and diversity of the city.

I'm back as of today. I haven't been doing well on the diet front and I haven't exercised in 2 days (which feels excessive to me). I'm back on track today.

I don't like counting calories and I'd like to take another shot at just portion control. Snacking especially at night is were the problem is. If I eliminate snacking beyond healthy daytime snacks I should be at a calorie intake that will make me lose weight. I'll weigh Saturday and as long as I lose any weight each week I'll avoid the calorie counting. Even if I just maintain I think i can adjust and lose rather than trying to count and track everything. I need to develop this skill to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.

I have likely gained a bit of weight. Hopefully I will still be at least a couple pounds below 300 on Saturday. I hit 294.6 on June 21st and I hurt myself two days later. 23 days of lost ground. The not running was unavoidable even if the injury was avoidable. My diet has been crummy on the whole. Today I will run and eat a reasonable amount of a vegan diet.

Short term goals:
Be back to normal running and be as far below 300 as possible a week from now on my 39th birthday.

30 minute 5K will happen this fall. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 8am in Carthage, Texas to be precise. Now this is race time and not the 30 minute 5K in the aerobic zone, but still a big running milestone.

long term goals:
I will be the most fit and best weight of my life when I turn 40. I hope to have a habit of eating an appropriate amount of food without having to count calories or obsess over it by then as well.

I want to hit 200 on or before my 40th birthday. I can do this in a healthy manner. If I'm below 300 on my birthday then the lose rate will be below 2 pounds a week.

I will hit the 30 minute 5K within the aerobic zone before 40 as well. That's 53 weeks from today. I expect to do so by Spring however.

Ooo, structure and attainable goals, yay you! Glad to hear you´re feeling good again and ready to get back on track.

Day one is a real success LaMa. Thanks for the encouragement!

Run
30 min
2.5 miles
159 bpm avg hr

I had some mild soreness in both knees, but no real pain. My gait felt stiff, but I'm pleased my first run went so well. This was the indoor track and a half mile shorter than the last run I completed on the track.

Ate well with no overeating. No evening snacking.

Me neither, but I like your start back into running! Stay careful for a while but you´re doing good!

Thursday's Run
treadmill
30 min
141 avg HR

I hadn't eaten enough while working out in the woods yesterday so this was a real grinder. I had to walk some and I walked once the 30 minutes was up so I don't have a distance. It doesn't matter because I did what I could and made progress with cardio and calories burned.

LaMa the knees weren't an issue yesterday. They are feeling pretty strong. I'm paying close attention to them before during and after the run.

Thanks LaMa!

Doing good Vee!

Yesterday (7/21/14)
Run
2.18
166 bpm avg hr
First post knee boo boo road run. Went well.

Today (7/22/14)
Run
2.56 miles
30 min
HR monitor was off.

Sucked at kickball after that.

I worked in the field both days. It was so hot.

Yay, Q ist on the road again, too! What was wrong these past few weeks? I feel like half the forum was having trouble and now we´re all getting into it again :)

I found it rather strange LaMa. You can't even blame the weather as some of the forum is in winter at the moment. I'm just happy to be headed back in the right direction with the cumulative momentum of everybody else.

BlueDragon, I'm feeling pretty tired today. No surprise as I had a heck of a busy day yesterday. I've been out of town for work, but I stuck to my diet and got my runs in. I'm out for a conference in the city tomorrow. I'm 39 today.

Whooohooo, congratulations! Wishing you health, happiness, weightloss and a side-order of wealth for the year to come. Enjoy!

You have a beautiful place. Night snacking is also one of the biggest issues for me. I usually only eat a small lunch during the day, then chow down once I get home and relax/get bored.

Thanks LaMa!

Thanks Mystic!

Okay so I'm here to pout today. My non-sprained knee was really sore yesterday and I walked a bit to loosen it up during the lunch break at my conference. By the time I got home It was swelling and pretty painful. This morning it is swollen larger than when I fell a MONTH AGO! I'm not sure what I did, but it is difficult to bend my leg and the swelling is very tight and painful. No mushy fluid this time, but a very hard swelling that hurts the skin. I'm going to the Dr. on Monday unless it's much better. I'm very frustrated so between my teeth grinding frustration and the actual pain, I'm resisting the urge to quietly cry at my desk. I'm icing the knee and have taken some pain medicine and NSAID.

Thanks for reading here is something that I found profoundly interesting:

In 1912 Henrietta Leavitt discovered that the luminosity cycles (think twinkle) of some stars are regular and that the larger the star the longer the cycle. She dubbed the measurement of this cycle intrinsic luminosity. She then compared the intrinsic luminosity to the brightness of the star to infer their distance. This was the first time that these distances could be measured and a huge step forward in astronomy some 102 years ago.

Hubble used her formula shortly after her passing to discover that ours was not the only galaxy of the universe.

The next time you look up at the sky know that a lot of the twinkles that you see is from light older than Henrietta's discovery and there is also a chance that you will see the light of a star emitted the same time as her study. A star just under 600 trillion miles away (102 lightyears).

Oh Q. Poor you! That sucks. I love that you followed your little pout with fascinating information. (I'm not being sarcastic btw) Our world is a fascinating place. Hope your knee improves quick smart!

Happy 39th birthday Q!

Sorry about the knee though. My biggest fear when I started doing all the exercises was my injuring myself, and with one notable exception I've managed to avoid that. Keep the chin up and maybe the Doc can give you something to help.
