You will eventually plateau, your body will eventually FORCE you to re-feed. When this occurs you will regain weight very quickly.
Interesting comment - I have a girlfriend who lost a whopping 75kgs (165lbs) on this program 6 years ago and hasn't put any of that weight back on at all! She looks amazing!
We are all encouraged to start an exercise program after the refeed part of the Dr Cohen's program. It is obvious we can't start a fitness regime while on the plan as we don't have enough calories to give us what we need, it will cause dizziness, fatigue and spike hunger that will make us reach for anything that with satisfy the immediate craving. And therefore ruining all the hard work.
I personally have worked out for years, including fitness programs such as BFL and PhysiqueTransformation with all the whey protein powders and supplements needed, and this wasn't a "oh I'll try this for a while" kinda thing either, I spend considerable time and massive amounts of effort as well. - I still kept putting weight on. - I was never a fast food, binge eating, stuff my face kinda girl. I ate incredibley healthy before this program, low to no sodium, no sugar, good lean proteins, hitting 100% of all my dialy vitamin and mineral RDI's a day, I ate fibrous fruit and veg, no starchy foods unless whole grain seeded bread once a week, almost zero processed food, 4 litres of water a day and working out 4 to 5 times a week doing resistance training and cardio as you can see I have nothing against the gym whatsoever. I enjoy going and plan to hit it hard at the end to tone up and continue my healthy lifestyle.
It was incredbley frustrating and baffling to me as to why my body kept gaining weight, after many discussions with trainers, dieticians, nutricianlists and doctors taking every test under the sun, no one had the answers for me either. I became pre diabetic and insulin resistant, this is from someone who had a very reduced carb diet (only whole grains and seeds in any starchy food and brown rice if I ever ate rice which was rarely). I was insanely upset and desperate to get on track.
I certainly did not go into this program lightheartedly and after many years researching the ways our bodies operate I decided to give it a go.
I started on 25th September 06 and have lost 20kg's (44lbs), my hormones have balanced out, I am no longer insulin resistant/pre diabetic.
I knew that there was something underlining my problem and this program (nomatter what your opinion of it), has changed my problem. I intend to continue a healthy diet and start going back to the gym as soon as I finish the refeed part of the program.
To me (and this may sound silly to you) but this program has saved my life. I have diabetes in my family and have already lost 2 uncles to it.
I didn't really want to get into all of this, but hey there's my 2cents worth.
I really hope we can all move on from this and go our own happy merry ways. Thanks for listening.
