Alligatorob's Diary

Today was ok, I ate well but did not get my bike ride in. I spent most of the day on some shelves I have been working on in the garage, was too tired by day's end to do much else. I guess I am feeling a bit off, not sure why. Tomorrow I should be able to get on the bike, maybe that will help.

Edgar the Peaceful or Peaceable became King of England in 959. Apparently Edgar killed Earl Æthelwald so he could marry Ælfthryth, Æthelwald's wife. After Edgar's death Ælfthryth murdered Edgar's son, Edward the Martyr, to make way for her son by Edgar, Æthelred to be king. Sounds like a typical royal family of the time, not much peaceful about them.

He was a very short man, and very young when he came to the throne - he must have had an amazing force of personality to keep control of the kingdom as long as he did, from enemies outside and from clashing groups within. He was called the Peaceful because of that - because he kept things pretty peaceful for the general public.

I hope you are feeling better too. Were you feeling physically unwell, Rob or a bit down mentally? Your calories are still very low & you have been doing this for quite some time. Have you had a checkup with a doctor recently? Take care of yourself please & maybe have a day of eating a little bit more of the good stuff :grouphug:

It was a snowy day, we got about 6 inches and I had to plow for an hour or two. My first time plowing this year so it took a while to get things set up and to remember how. I use the front end loader on the tractor to plow, not an ideal way to do it, but it works, kind of. Our drive is gravel so I need to take some care to plow snow and not gravel, just remembering how. Since last year we put a lawn in so I have to be a bit more careful about where I plow, wish I had put in stakes. We have about 1,000 ft of drive so its way too much to shovel, there is still some shoveling to do where I can't plow.

That's a long way of saying I didn't bike today, I was going to try it and see how it was in the snow, but by the time I finished plowing it was getting dark, and I was getting cold. To be honest I am a bit down, not sure why and my wife tells me I am grouchy, so I guess I am that too. Both are not typical of me, but I guess we all have down days.

I did manage to eat well today, despite being a grouch.

U.S. Code § 960. Expedition Against Friendly Nation - Whoever, within the United States, knowingly begins or sets on foot or provides or prepares a means for or furnishes the money for, or takes part in, any military or naval expedition or enterprise to be carried on from thence against the territory or dominion of any foreign prince or state, or of any colony, district, or people with whom the United States is at peace, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Seems like a reasonable law to me, keeps the Canadians safe, mostly.

Hey, a sensible law! A max of three years sounds low if we´re talking about actual war prep but I guess if they get past the prep state every single crime can be tried extra.
Maybe you missed the physical activity? I know I get grouchy when I don´t move enough. Or maybe you just need a bit of a change: a swim, a massage, a walk up a hill to get a different perspective?

Thanks LaMa, it probably is the exercise thing, but to paraphrase Scarlett today is another day, and so far so good. Not sure if I'll be able to ride today, I will give it a try. I may have to find a winter alternative, doing the winter biking may not be a great idea. I did ride in the winter when I was in college, but I was in very different condition back then.

Today is forecast to be cold but no snow, then snow again tomorrow..... I miss the Florida winters, we got about the right amount of snow, none!

I likw snow in the forest and fields but in town it's useless muck. Be careful with your bike please! I agree that you may need an alternative to keep your strength and stamina up over the winter.

:iagree: I think you need to come up with a Winter alternative to your bike, Rob. Is there a gym within cooee of where you are? If you have been grumpy lately maybe your wife might change how she thinks about you getting an exercise bike. I'm sure someone would have one sitting around not being used that you might be able to borrow, to see if you like it. I get the blues every year when Winter is approaching.

Stay warm, Rob. Looks like a storm's crossing over you. I endured 5 Boston winters including the 2015 blizzard. Snow piles didn't finish melting until July. I find preparation the best way to stay ahead of the cold weather and it sounds like you're on top of a lot of that. Good clothing/gear is a must, LL Bean stuff worked great for me.

It was a better day, I ate well but did not exercise. I thought about it, but the ground was too slick to walk on confidently, riding would have been a mistake. Cate and LaMa are right I think I need to find a winter exercise alternative, I will see what I can find.

Rob, you are right we are supposed to get a bunch more snow tomorrow, guess I'll spend a lot of the day plowing and shoveling. I still feel a bit grouchy, but am trying to act like I'm not and that's helping me feel better, the act as if thing. Emily, you may be right it may be part winter blues.

I ordered some supposedly healthy low calorie meals and snacks. So far I am not too impressed, the snacks are ok but no lower calorie than cracker or fritos. The meat and potato meal I had for lunch did not taste as good or fill me as well as my usual sardines, and it had more calories. Guess when these are gone I'll go back to what I was eating.

In 1011 the Tepanec tribe settled on the western side of Lake Texcoco, in Azcapotzalco, now a part of Mexico City. The Tepanecs were forerunners of the Aztecs. A few years back I worked on cleanup of an old oil refinery in Azcapotzalco, it was one of Mexico's largest and oldest refineries, I worked as a consultant to Pemex, the Mexican oil company. When Felipe Calderón ran for president he made a promise to cleanup the refinery and turn it into a park for Mexico's bicentennial, September 16, 2010. It became a real political hot potato so Pemex hired all kinds of international folks to help, I was luck enough to be one. It was an interesting experience and sure enough the park opened right on time. Bicentennial Park · Attractions . Even before that project I really liked Mexico City, its a very interesting place to visit.

I think your wife does most of the cooking in your household, doesn´t she? Maybe cooking more would be a fun winter project; I´m sure if everyone donates one beloved low-cal recipe you´ll be busy for quite a while.

That's a great project to have been involved in, Rob! There are so many great benefits to public parks.
As for the food - no, I bet the pre-made meal wouldn't taste as good as honest sardines on toast, and I bet it didn't look as good as the picture on the pack, either! I'll gladly offer a recipe, as per LaMa's suggestion, if you decide to go that route, but I strongly suspect that anything I can cook, you or your wife already know how to cook.

Rob sorry I missed so much here but I know I’m catching you on the binge thread . Yep get some indoor exercise if you can . Try 15 mins of leslie sansone walking workout for beginners . You will get on you tube . Take it easy though.

Down 4 lbs this week to 245, 75 lbs total loss. It feels good.

Yes LaMa, my wife does most of the cooking, I like to cook, but she doesn't like my cooking much. On the other hand I am fine with hers, she is a good cook, guess I'm not. You are right finding somethings to cook would be a good winter project. Amy, recipes would be welcome, always open to trying something different.

Maybe if you start looking for low-cal stuff to cook you can find new things your wife would enjoy as well - I'm sure you know her tastes!

guess I'll spend a lot of the day plowing and shoveling.
That's always great exercise--good outdoor air too!
I still feel a bit grouchy, but am trying to act like I'm not
That made me smile--good advice!

I've been reading through your diary a little and am surprised by how few calories you can eat and still get stuff done! If I ate that little I'd have to just lie still all day!!
