Alligatorob's Diary

Hi, Rob. I'm glad you had a good day. Have you thought some more about what you will do for exercise for Winter, other than shovelling snow? Your food seems to be reducing in variety & is still very low in calories. I actually worry about you a bit. Do you enjoy your meals? Tell me to butt out if I'm being too intrusive xoxo

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good.

More snow plowing, but at least it didn't snow today, the UPS delivery driver got stuck in our driveway, had to pull him up the hill. My garage shelf project is finally done! And I am making some progress on the exercise thing, went to the bike shop and ordered a trainer, its a device you can put your bike on and ride indoors, kind of like an exercise bike. Only problem is they were not sure it would work with my wide tires, so they agreed to let me try it and if it doesn't work they will take it back. It seems a good solution, if it works.

Watching LSU beat Texas A&M as I post, score is 47 LSU, 7 A&M in the last quarter, no need to pay too much attention. This is the last regular season game, LSU will end the season undefeated, and ranked #1 in the coaches poll, but no longer in the BCS poll, Ohio State, also undefeated moved into #1, guess the play offs will tell. LSU just moved up to 50 points.
I was looking at your food diary and you got a lot more for your calories on Thursday then Friday . You should be aiming for that everyday.
Petal you are right, I think I did better today, just got lazy yesterday.

I think I am ok, but you are right about yesterday anyway. I think today was better. I do enjoy my meals, maybe not so much as I used to, but I sure feel better about it later.
Tell me to butt out if I'm being too intrusive
Never! That is what this place is for, and your advice is always appreciate, and usually heeded.

Joanne's Scribes say:

Angel Number 1007 indicates that you are on the right path your life’s journey. If you have been feeling fearful or confused, the angels ask that you have faith in the direction and guidance you have been receiving intuitively as this is clearly telling you which direction to take. Do not be afraid to take a step in a new or different direction. You have good reason to be optimistic about your chosen direction or path as the angels support and encourage you all aspects to do with your life purpose and soul mission. It is time for you to be your authentic self and live accordingly. Take action in the direction of your true desires.

Olga says:

The feeling Olga gets from Angel Number 1007 is dispirited, irate, and calamitous. The purpose of Angel Number 1007 is summarized in these words: Monitor, Present, and Construct.

Sorry for the gobbledygook numbers stuff, but I can't find much interesting and not too violent history that happened in 1007.

Oh, good news about the trainer thingy. I hope it works! I got on my bike today because it has been raining all day. It felt good.
Glad I wasn't out of order xo

That tuna melt does sound good Rob and a much better food consumption for you .

Eh?
(I didn't really understand much of that, but it seems that it was good news for your team, so cheers! :hurray:)

The open fact melt sounds really warming and flavourful and nutritious - great cooking there!

It was an odd day, but in the end I ate fine.

It was supposed to be our Thanksgiving dinner, the grandkids were at the exes on Thursday. We had 19 people over and all started well. But part way through the guy sitting next to me, a kind of in-law fell off his chair and broke his hip, that put a quick end to the festivities. Its the first time I have seen someone break a hip, after he fell he was a bit dazed but stood up and said he was fine, within a few minutes it was clear he was not. Took him to the hospital and got x-rayed, tomorrow it will be operated on. He is a nice enough guy, but not someone I know real well. Got me thinking, he is younger and a lot thinner than I am, and I fall once in a while. Just a week ago doing yard work I tripped and took what looked to me like a harder fall than he took. Guess I need to be more careful.

My plan was to go ahead and eat a full Thanksgiving dinner, lite but full, and have a few more calories than usual, it wasn't to be.

Feeling a bit down, don't think I will be up to history tonight.

I didn't really understand much of that, but it seems that it was good news for your team, so cheers!
Yes, it is good news for LSU (Louisiana State University, my alma mater).

Selecting the number one team is a complicated and imperfect process. The problem is there are over 700 college football teams in the US, and over 100 top tier (Division 1) teams, in regular season play most teams only have about 12 games. Not nearly enough to have a clear winner. For many years the number 1 team was chosen by various polls, the two most highly regarded have been the AP poll and the Coaches poll. The AP poll is made up of sports writers who choose the top teams, the Coaches poll is based on a survey of college football coaches. A few years back a new group the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was formed to select top teams for post season bowl games. A bowl game is what an important end of season football game is called, I don't know why. The BCS selects top teams based on a combination of polling and computer statistical analysis. Currently the BCS selects the top 4 teams for a post season playoff to determine the number 1 team in the country. FYI, the BCS has changed its name, but a lot of us still call it the BCS.

Right now LSU is number 1 in both the AP and Coaches Poll, and until last week was number 1 in the BCS poll, but they dropped to number 2 with Ohio State University moving up to number 1. This is of course quite subjective. The only real power the BCS poll has is the ability to select playoff teams. LSU has just finished its season undefeated, but so have Ohio State and Clemson University so selecting between them is tough. Next Saturday LSU plays the University of Georgia for the Southeastern Conference title, LSU's first post season game. Georgia is currently ranked number 4 and has only lost 1 game, so it will be a big one. If LSU wins that game there is no question that we will be one of the four teams in the BCS playoffs, even if we lose it is still a possibility given LSU's record this season. To end up number 1 LSU will have to not only beat (probably) Georgia but go on to win both BCS playoff games. If that happens we will be the undisputed number 1 team; for only the 3rd in LSU's history. LSU has had other very good years, ending up ranked number 1 in some, but not all polls, a disputed championship.

You see it is all quite simple...... and if you are still reading now you know a lot more than you wanted to know about US College Football.

Oh boy! That's really something. Yes can shake a person up when we see how vulnerable to breaks we can be.

Sorry you're feeling down. Hope tomorrow's better for you.

1018 Cnut the Great travels to Denmark to succeed his brother on the Danish throne. I like the name and everything else was battles 'n stuff.

I'm guessing your kind-of-in-law broke his hip because some part of the broken chair beneath him concentrated the force in an unlucky place. It happens even to young, healthy people sometimes.
Bone strength IS however one reason to make sure you get your nutrients in on a regular basis and to move a lot. If you fall somewhat regularly it may be helpful to analyze what your falls have in common. Darkness? Lack of balance? Slow reaction time? Wanting to do too much? It's normal for us to feel our mortality more after someone gets hurt, but if it leads us to better ourselves that's not always a bad thing.

Rob I hope you don’t mind but I didn’t read about the football . lol

sorry about your dinner guest falling . That was pure bad luck . And yes please be careful out in the snow and ice . My sister slipped on ice some years ago and broke a leg . I am very nervous on ice and also when hiking on slippy stones etc .
however you did eat well enough considering so well done .
Hugs to you when feeling down

Had some good size news this morning. The size 48 jeans I have been wearing were falling off so badly I decided to replace them (these 48s were too small for me not so long ago). Before buying new I tried on some old size 38s I had and they fit! I am amazed, now I know these are XL relaxed fit elastic waste jeans, bigger than most 38s I am sure, but still it felt good. Took this picture along side my size 62 belt, which just a few months ago I wore at the biggest notch.

Yes!! :hurray: Oh, very well done! And the yes! was not only as cheering for your triumph, but to Petal's remark about "non-scale victories" - it's these which are the most important, the lived daily reality of fitness, comfortable slim-fitting clothes, feeling good... all of that! Go, you!

And I did read all the way through your explanation about the football! :) It seems a very doubtful (and riggable) way to decide which teams are top team, but there it is, that's the system in place, so no point fretting. Anyway, I hope that LSU do well against Georgia, and that they make it into the final four for the deciding round.

But that - the football - paled against the tale of the fall at your Thanksgiving dinner. A broken hip! Wow. A bit younger, I think you said - but over sixty? Even so, too young for old-age frailty, and anyway it's mostly women who get fragile bones in old age, I think. I'm sorry that made for a down-note in what should have been a happy time.

It was a good day, still cold and too snow covered to ride the bike, but I ate well. The bike trainer should be in this week.

Amy, I am impressed I kind of thought everyone would be like Petal and skip over the football talk. It is an imperfect system, but with so many teams and so few games its probably the best that can be done. In 1973 President Nixon declared Texas the national champion over Penn State, both were undefeated. Nixon didn't make it to the end of the 1974 season, as president anyway, so maybe that's bad luck. It lead the Penn State coach to ask "How could he [Nixon] know so much about football and so little about Watergate?". That was 2 impeachments back. No president since has tried naming the national champion.

Thanks all for the support and words on my pants victory, I still am amazed. The guy with the broken hip had surgery today, they put some pins in and say that after about 6 weeks of recovery and PT he should be back up and around. Yes Amy, he is about 60. It was an odd fall, the chair didn't fail. He was trying to get one of the grandkids to sit on his lap and somehow went off balance. He was seated right next to me, but I was looking the other way and didn't see the fall, just the aftermath. Like LaMa says it was probably an unlucky blow. I was much more careful today when walking on snow and ice. I think most of my falls come from trying to do too much too quickly, am going to try and slow down a bit and be more deliberate, we'll see that's a hard change to make.

1,024 is 1 kilobyte in computer memory, 10,000,000,000 in binary, and Roman Numeral MXXIV. It is also 2 to the 10th power and the smallest number with exactly 11 divisors.

It's also a number that randomly makes me happy when it comes up unexpectedly. Being more deliberate IS a hard change to make but I think it's a good one.

LaMa - why do you like 1024? It always reminds me of computers.

Rob - I like reading your menus. Nice and simple, looks so healthy. It's absolutely amazing you can eat so little every day.

I remember falling one time on the ice while shoveling snow. It happened so fast that not only could I not stay upright, I barely had time to slightly turn my shoulder to catch the ground with instead of my head. I had a friend, my age, who actually died from a slip-and-fall on the ice - and he was as agile as they come. It can happen to anyone.

It just feels like such a perfect number. Powers of two are satisfying anyway and a tenth power is like an ultraround number. That's all I've got, sorry :D
