Thank you butterfly and cate!

Today was a great day! 2 Fridays ago I was 169, but over the past two weeks, despite exercising and not overeating, I went up to 171. It was really demotivating because I had been losing consistently. However, I was pretty sore and I looked some articles up and found out that sore muscles can retain water. Well I finally stopped being sore, and weighed in today at 167 (75.75 kg)! Equally great, I was able to go faster on the elliptical today than I have been so far, and do some short sprints. I was even smiling when I did it :).

I'm very happy with my progress so far, I have been consistently eating 1200-1300 calories per day and working out approx 4x per week for 35 days. Also I haven't binged once!!!(knock on wood). The hunger hasn't been bad, and has been managable. What is trickier for me is not to eat out of boredom, but hopefully the longer I am able to stop doing that, the easier it will get. If I start feeling really hungry I am going to up my calories, I think this has been partly to blame for burnout in the past.

My goal is to be in the 159 (72 kg) at the end of july, and to feel stronger. I just need to remember this feeling when it gets hard.

Food today (1200ish)
A small piece of vegan pizza
A small piece of cake
Lots of brown rice, beans, kale, tofu, guacomole

Exercise: 57 min elliptical (545 cal)

Ah LaMa, that is so true. I've been thinking about just not weighing in at all. I think I am too curious though. And thanks!

Cate, thank you!

You guys are so nice and supportive.

Todays food:
(all the food I eat is vegan)
1200 cal
1 banana
I small piece of bread w/ margarine
2 pieces of vegan chick'n
Noodles with vegetables
2 slices vegan pizza
Some broccoli with tomatoes sauce

Exercise:
53 min on elliptical, (443 in 45 min-trying to slowly increase this)
Stretches, 10 lat pull downs, 50 crunches

I keep reading how strength training is so important, but to be honest the weight machine section of the gym kind of intimidates me. So many machines of indeterminate purpose! And few/no women in sight!

Julie, the weight section of the gym should not be an intimidating place, however if you go in with a solid plan, keep your headphones on and follow some basic gym etiquette then you will have no problems.

if you need help with a basic beginners program, let me know here in your diary and I will draw up a beginners program for you with links to videos of the exercises so you don't feel lost in the maze of machines.

Also: you might check if your gym offers intro sessions for a good prize. Weight training is great once you get into it! Anyone looking at you instead of concentrating on their workout is doing it wrong anyway ;)

I would take Tru up on this offer Julie. We are very lucky to have a "resident" expert!
Weight training makes you feel wonderful. I love feeling strong.

Cate i will take your advice :)

Trusylver,
If you don't mind, that would be great and so helpful. Even if I could just add on 1 or 2 things I think it would help a lot. Thank you!!

LaMa, yup they should be! It's probably in my head that anyone is looking at me haha.

Food:
1200ish

Breakfast:
Toast and tofu scramble

Lunch:
Beans, rice, guacamole

Snack:
Banana

Dinner (takeout)
A DELICIOUS vegan cheese burger

Exercise 55 min on elliptical (535, 445 in 45 min)
50 crunches, stretches

I've noticed my heart rate is no longer getting as high and the recovery is faster :). Also (sidenote) I don't know how some people work out without music, I definitely need it.

I have been trying to eat only when I'm hungry and been pretty good at that but Im having a trouble distinguishing when I should eat or ignore it (so that I lose weight and don't just maintain).

Otherwise, things going pretty good, if I feel sore on Friday I probably won't weigh in but otherwise will.

Also, I need to pack more lunches, going out with friends is getting expensive.

This was a little rambly but oh well :)

ok, give me a couple of days, do you have any injuries or health concerns I need to work around ?

Oops, sorry Tru, I didn´t want to sound like I doubt your expertise! I just feel insecure when walking into a new place alone, trying to find the machines I´m looking for, so I like to have someone on the spot. More as an alibi and shield than anything else, I guess.

Julie: Packing lunch is a bit of a chore but definitely worth it but financially and nutritionally.

I never read it that way lol, I am hard to offend Maria :D

it is great if you have someone to show you personally, however there are a lot of trainers with minimal experience or training but talk a good line if they think they can make a profit.

Tell me about it; Years ago I did some courses in a VERY expensive fitness center where a personal trainer session cost >100€ and I watched them quite a bit because we were near the mirrors. In 16 hours I only saw one who corrected their client's form during an exercise  The rest spent their time looking in the mirror and at the backsides of other guests. But I still like having them show me around; I can check my own posture.

Hi Tru, sure, thanks! Nope, no injuries but I am careful with my knees.

LaMa, that description of the personal trainers cracked me up. I'm going to try and pack lunch tomorrow.

Today was good, while I was working out the endorphins were hitting me hard! I kept grinning like a maniac haha :). Luckily no one seemed to notice:rolleyes:. Today I think I ate around 1400 calories? They were hard to measure foods.

Breakfast:
Toast and tofu scramble
Chocolate vegan ice cream :D I don't even feel bad about it haha.

Lunch
Rice, beans, kale, guacomole, tofu

Dinner
Same

Exercise : 59 min, 565 caloris (442 cal in 45 min, I incorporated more sprints)
Stretches, 100 crunches, some lat pull downs.

I think I might watch wimbeldon while working out tomorrow. That should get me to the gym!
