Hi Wishes,
The fire is terrible - I just heard that 4 firefighters have been killed fighting it already :(

Yeah, I heard that earlier today from my friend before they went offline. It went up pretty fast apparently.

I'm sorry about the fires. It must be scary to have that worry hanging over your head.

I started reading your diary from the beginning. Just the first few pages. I made a few notes of some key things that happened, really within a few days of one another. I thought you might enjoy the trip down memory lane:

Jun 23 (post #11): I think I'm going to try my hand at counting calories
Jun 24 (post #24): Oh valapalooza - thank you for mentioning fitday.com
Jun 24 (post #30): I went for a 2.153 mile walk for 40 minutes
Jun 26 (post #55): I just spent two hours with my girlfriends - no one said a word. I suppose it's still not noticable. I thought they would be the FIRST!
Jun 27 (post #73): Well, I finally had *that* talk with my husband....
I've been 'up to this' for awhile. I've lost 28 pounds....he has been noticing
Jun 27 (post #83): A girlfriend of mine...she noticed - it seems so vain, but man is it good hearing positive comments. She lives about two miles from me, so Thursday morning, we plan on each leaving our house at 7:00 am and meeting half way for a morning walk! I would love to get two walks in a day!
(oh, and this is the post where you mention the Graces. also, during this time you were experimenting with smoothies)

It was just interesting reading about when you started counting calories, started tracking it all, and started walking. And now you have lost 63 pounds due to all your hard work. Your daughter must be so proud of you. YOU must be so proud of you.

Thats pretty cool. its always good to read back and have a laugh or chuckle even at some of the things you struggled to do.

Its always fun feeling things also now that you havnt had in 10 years (today i sat in the backseat of a car and there was plenty of room! AND the seatbelt fit me!).

Oh wow Patty! It takes a brave person to go treading into a diary almost 100 (just checked...officially 100) pages long!

It was amazing how so many things happened in such a short time - I was feeling very antsy that no one had said a word about me losing weight - I could FEEL the difference and people around me went around without saying a word! Oh, and I was a confirmed "No, I'm NOT going to count calories, nothankyouverymuch" person - I feared I would get obsessive, blah, blah, blah! The walking is funny to look back on! I knew when I started, I was doing a mile every 20 minutes or so. It really doesn't take that long to build up!

Thanks for all those reminders!

So I'm sitting here debating whether or not to take my walk this morning. The Santa Ana winds are blowing pretty strong - I could live with that, but I just let the dogs out and the smell of fire is pretty strong and ash is in the air again this morning :(

URGH!

ugh, I hate forest fire season! I know what you mean about the smoke. We're surrounded by forest, and a few times we've almost lost our little paradise here. If the smoke is hard to breath, you probably aren't going to enjoy yourself. :(

M2M I cant walk ether because of that dam fire, and all the smoke in the air sucks.:( I live in Temecula, I wonder how far off the fire is this morning?
Have a great day:)

Good morning T2, Mike & Kdel,

You're all right, the smoke didn't make for a good walk - I did get 5 in for a total of 58.37 minutes...but my lungs can definitely feel it.

Kdel, I'm in South OC, in Rancho Santa Margarita area - you are MUCH closer to the fire - the smoke must be terrible :(

T2, your times will improve...when I first started walking I didn't really care about the time, I set out to walk 2 miles for awhile, then 3 for awhile and slowly built up my distance to a daily 5, then went for bettering the time. I still look at Mike's 5 miles in 45 minutes with AWE!!

OK - I'm off to hit the shower and weigh in for the Halloween challenge...I'll post back once before I leave but then I'm gone until around 5:30 tonight.

Yes it is crazy out side. I had to wipe the ash off the wind shield of my car before I could drive:eek: I just started walking and I can walk my mile now in record time(for me)but I can see how you can work your way up and just keep adding the miles:) Do you walk at a park?

wow, you did end up walking.... what a trooper! Hope you drink enough water today.... that smoke always does a number on ya.

Have a great day!

Man sometimes reading your diary makes me home sick. California will always be home to me. I haven't actually lived there for 13 years and rarely get to go back! So even though there is smoke enjoy that awesome sunshine they and love it for me!!

Hello M2M,
Congrats on getting in the 5 miles with the
smoke and fires burning, geeesh and I am complaining about
rain:rolleyes: ! You are doing so gr8 and staying motivated
congrats! Have a gr8 Friday Tammy:)

Hi Kdel - yeah the smoke & ash must be terrible in Temecula. We also had another fire about 5 miles away from me, in SJC - but they got it out quickly.

No, I don't walk a park, there's a main road that I walk. It's one of only two ways out of this little valley so it might as well be a freedway!

Sorry to hear you couldn't get your full walk in, but you're still doing great! Congrats on the two pounds this week!

Thanks OHD, and I did get the walk in - I just suffered for it, my lungs are tired tonight!

Thanks Mike, I did drink a lot of water today actually - about 120oz - the smoke definitely does a number on the body. Meg's swim practice was cancelled today.

Howdy M! Just making my rounds. Yikes on the smoke! I bet that does make it tough. Hang in there!!

Thanks Pequin, hope your day went well!

just droppin in 2 say hi =-)

Oh I will Mechelle - I couldn't imagine living anywhere else, but then, I grew up here :) I've very leary of the idea of "winter" any where else ;)

Hello M2M,

Thanks Tammy, I have to say, every time I see that 4 letter word I get nervous and wonder if I'm going to walk in it or not!

Hope your Friday went well :D

*tries to get some of washington's endless rain to go your way*

sheesh. You could really use some the endless rain that we've had here for the last couple days. great job at sticking to your guns and going for it anyway! Keep it up!
