Petals diary

it’s good to ease into for the first time ever not saying I need to go on a diet etc etc etc
Well put, and I think others feel that way, I know I do. I don't want to think of all the New Years I started with halfhearted dieting commitments. It feels good not to have to this year, only a commitment to continue.

Thank you all again . Yes that’s exactly it Rob . It’s a lifetime commitment and I agree all of us here certainly seem to be in a good place this year .

I made some burgers just now from my plan . They are divine ( maybe because I was really hungry . Worst thing was waiting for them . I think I need to make more of that kind of stuff and freeze it .

my little planner that my friend gave me today , thought of the day “ people matter more than things “.

I love G's burgers. We call them rissoles.
I like that thought of the day. People matter so much more more than things xo

We call them rissoles.
We call them meat patties! (And the fish-and-potato ones we call fish patties. This is - though as a vego, I don't eat them - my number one fall-back dish for guests who are of fussy or uncertain tastes, including young children. Has never failed yet.)

I have heard of both rissoles and patties. And I agree homemade are often so much better. I froze 2 of them so they will be handy someday for lunch or dinner .

Yesterday was such a full on day. I never really had a minute . Between work, grocery shopping , cooking , laundry and 2 hours of helping daughter out with revising I was exhausted.
I started also a 30 day declutter challenge with my friend . Yesterday was day 2 and I failed although just to make a start I did commence the de xmas of the sitting room so maybe that counts . No matter I will keep plodding on . Day 1 I filled 3 black sacks with my clothes that I will never wear again .

Today and tomorrow though are study free as school starts back on Monday . Bit of a rest. So we aim to finish putting away xmas things, go shopping for some new wellies , look around at some home furnishings and get a walk or 2 in weather dependent . Looking forward to it.

Yes it counts and as long as you keep at it the challenge will have done its job regardless of the exact outcome.

I have completely cleared away Xmas , hoovered and dusted and am sitting in a lovely fresh clear room now . I am going to tackle my shoes later on and that’s enough for today .

Amy I meant to tell you the birds are goldfinches. About 40 this morning . I accidentally spilt seeds and they are having a total party . My phone won’t let me upload a pic . But they have little red heads and yellow on their wings . So cute

Hi, Petal. Good for you with the house cleaning. I might take down my Xmas decorations today. There's not many this year. I hate tacky ones & keep getting rid of some each year. I want more of the old, old ones with character. No tinsel. *shudder*
One of our favourite pastimes is watching all the birds in our birdbath.

We also feed the birds and get a lot of them, but when you start feeding birds in winter here you need to continue. It doesn't take long to develop a bird population dependent on feeding, with our cold and snow it is hard for them to forage.

started also a 30 day declutter challenge
Now that is something we need! When we moved from Florida it took about a year to declutter and pack, now almost 3 years later the clutter is back with a vengeance.

Thanks for telling about the goldfinches and their unexpected seed-party! I've looked up to see what they look like - what a vibrantly-coloured little bird! And they sound beautifully heartwarming to see in action. :)
I'll swap you this tiny story from the bushfires, also heartwarming, of an exhausted little bird, not able to rest on a tree or bush, taking refuge on somebody's boat as it loitered off the coast out of harm's way:

Rob join in on the challenge !! Today's will be a smal declutter , perhaps a shoe press or my corner overflow larder press . Felt so good clearing the xmas stuff . Cate I have got rid off all tacky old xmas things last year and got some lovely stuff for this xmas and kept it all to my living room .
Aw Amy that's a lovely little story. Thsnks for sharing it .

I went out last night. I wore jeans and an old blouse ( old in age ,New as never really worn as it never fitted me ) and I felt fantastic . I declined dessert and had a salad to start . I asked for a Stirfry which sadly tasted bland. I ordered rice and just asked for a small portion. I only took two spoons of it. We did not have dessert or wine but on the way home we bought 2 little tubs of gelato 139cal each .

That's great! And it sounds like you did well at dinner. A little gelato, under 300 calories never hurt anyone, particularly if its only an occasional treat.
Rob join in on the challenge !!
So its an official challenge? I could start in my office, its a detached building of about 600 ft2 (60 m2) that sits about 30 feet from the house. It is where I work, but it is also where the grandkids like to hang out when here, probably the large screen TV, video games, and good supply of soft drinks and junk food, not me that attracts them. I rely mostly on a wood stove for heat there, which I really like this time of year, something about being able to walk up to the hot surface. It looks like a kind of man/kid cave with my work computer and books set up on the side. It is always hard to keep clean, one of my wife's decluttering tactics is to put anything she doesn't want in the house down there, so clutter collects. Fortunately it has a partial basement, a good place to stash clutter short of trashing it.
maybe the chef's in love
Good point, he was probably looking at Petal rather than paying attention to the stirfry!

Haha Rob I don’t think the chef was looking at me. Sounds like you need to declutter your wife’s clutter in your office.
Yesterday I had a mostly relaxing day.. had a wander in garden centre and got a new milk foamer for our coffee machine.
I decluttered 2 larder presses. One large one and then the overflow. I had a fair bit of out of date stuff . And lots of duplicates like tomatoes and beans . But they are always used . It made me think a bit about Robs Mormon friends as surely stuff they collect goes out of date . However I know most tinned stuff will probably be good for many many years after it’s best before .

today is Little Christmas here . It’s when the men are supposed to cook and serve a meL to the women after all their hard work over Christmas. It was never a thing in my home growing up and certainly isn’t now . Just a tidbit of information lol .

Yay for feeling fantastic while out! A real shame they didn't get the stir-fry right though; maybe the chef's in love :p
Lol who knows . I find eating out a disappointment a lot of the time now tbh

I love it!
Petal, I love that you felt fantastic :beating:
Thanks Cate .
if we could capture that feeling and wave it under our nose everytime we waver it would be worth a fortune .
