Trops Diary

wow, I don't think I could do a quarter of that ammount of running. not unless someone was chasing me! guess I should be glad I get my cardio in by dancing huh? :ack2:
great job though!!! and all this talk of cheesecake is just plain mean. I've had to cut it out of my diet completely since I've been knows to demolish one in the blink of an eye....

The good thing about running, (and there aren't that many good things) is that if someone is chasing you, you can get away. :biggrinjester:

There was a thing on the news yesterday about a 65 year old lady who got her purse snatched (in London). She was a cross country track star in High School and never gave up running. She chased down the snatcher and caught him. Now that guy not only is in jail for purse snatching he also has to worry about the other inmates finding out that he got caught by the 65 year old lady. :smilielol5:

There was another incident here this last winter. Some 25 year old tried to car jack a 70 year old man using a tire iron. He said, "Give me the keys, old man!" Well, the "old man" got so pissed at being called old, he snatched the tire iron away from the guy and beat the shit out of him.

Oh, I should send yours to the other airman's wife that you have the challenge with. Now that's cruel. :reddevil:

actually, that's a great idea. she's got a sweet tooth that almost puts me to shame. send her my cheesecake and I'll have a better shot at winning. :D

I love hearing stories like that about older folks. Not that they are getting robbed or anything but that the attacker is a dumbass and underestimates them and then gets their ass handed to them... I hope I'm half as spry as those two sound by the time I hit my 60's or 70's. Hopefully I'll still be running by then ;)

Good job on the run Trops. I had an excellent one myself last night, although it was on the treadmill... I don't mind the treadmill that much. I kind of enjoy the people watching and comparing myself to the other runners there.

Yup, I get a kick out of them too.

There is an older blind gentleman that I know in the town I drive cab in (not a nice neighborhood) who was mugged while walking home one night. He managed to hit the guy a couple of times with his cane before he lost it, then turned and ran up the road (he could tell by the crown of the road where he was) Would be mugger was so focused on running after the "easy mark" that was getting away from him, that he didn't realize that his victim was running right to the police station...

Didn't work out well for the mugger :smilielol5:

I got my heart rate monitor off ebay, new for about $35. I've seen them in stores for easily twice that and more. I'm sure that it's not 100% accurate, but it's close enough for me.
I LOVE my heart rate monitor!

HA! Those are great stories! :D

My turn...

There was an "old" couple walking from a movie theatre here near Toledo, and a guy popped out from behind a car with a knife and demanded there wallet and purse... This "old" man, "sprung like a MMA champion fighter", releived the would be mugger of his knife, and held him there until the police got there... one of the funniest things, is that the loser actually crapped his pants... I love it!! Moral of the story I guess, if you're a would be mugger, don't target an old couple where the "old" man is wearing a hat that says "MC RETIRED" on it!!! Sometimes criminals are just STUPID!!

Put me down for a cheese cake Trops!!! Hellish day at the office!!! Nothing went well today at that place! Ever spend all day putting out fires... only to run out of piss on the most important one?!?!? I am what some people might call an "IMPATIENT BASTARD", so when I have to wait for some shmoe in the Phillapines to answer a question about why some steel beam was designed to carry the statue of liberty, when in fact it only has to carry a statue of liberty key chain... I get stressed!! Good thing all the CRAP from yesterday was out of this place!!! I settled for some EXTRA chewing gum!!! AAAAHHHHHH! :flame:

Thanks, I feel better now... hope you don't mind!!

Those are some GREAT STORIES!!!! Damn...they actually inspired my lazy ass to get up and GO FOR A RUN DAMMIT!!!! In a lazy funk lately.....I need this OUT!!!!!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND TROPS!!!!! Good Job on that run, and I've always thought of the benefits of running in that "running away/running after them" type of scenarios too!!!:biggrinjester:......Just in my head, I run like a TORPEDO, and catch them, and BEAT THEM DOWN LIKE A SAVAGE MAN WOULD :reddevil:......hahah!!! :biggrinjester:

Nice, I like it. Funny thing happened yesterday while running. I needed to cross over a busy street and one car was going a little faster then I thought, so instead of just jogging across the street I sprinted. This was a mile from the end. Damn if that sprint wasn't faster then usual, and it invigorated the end of the run. Nothing like a little motivation to get you running fast.:gnorsi:

Love the cartoon depiction, JZ. :smilielol5:

I don't think it was the adrenalin that did it as much as just telling myself to get it going. Even though the gauge is on E, there is more in the tank then you think.

So today I got up and when I got on the scale it read 199.0. Glad to be under 200 again. Now to stay there. breakfast of cereal and coffee. two apples for snack, then a big bowl of chili when I got to work. That's pretty much it for the day. Right now I'm not hungry at all, but that might change later.

Workout today was a lame attempt at a chair sit, 2 min. Then jump rope. Also pretty lame. I was all set to do a good workout but my hip has been bothering me since the run yesterday. Not pain, but just stiff. I thought I'd jump through it, but it was just getting worse and worse and developing into pain, so I stopped. I did get 4000 jumps in 26 min, which is a good pace. Just under 154 jpm. I'm going to try again this weekend, but I'll have to see how it goes. This is the point where my motivation is higher then I think is good for my body. :banghead: but you have to listen to yourself sometimes. :toetap05:

better to have more motivation than your body can use than the other way around. probably more frustrating though. Sorry your hip is giving you trouble. but hey, 2 minutes isn't bad for a wall sit, especially if you're having hip issues. I'm lucky if I can get 3 minutes before falling over dead.
Hope you have a great weekend!
take care

I went for a run today. I wasn't feeling so energetic, and I hadn't eaten very much, so I knew I'd be low on fuel, but rather then eat and then try to run on a full stomach I just went. Now normally I'll run a rout that I know each turn and bend and where each half mile mark is. This time I decided to run a different rout, just on a whim. I have no idea how far it was, but I ran for 35 min and was just beat. I should have kept on going, but I just stopped and walked for a while. I was disappointed with myself for walking, so after four min of walking I started running again. Damn, that's tough. getting going again when you are starting to cool down, my body just wanted to rest, but I pushed on. Total time was 55 min, with that 4 min of walking. Now I know for next time that I can do it, so I'll have to do it. :smash:

You sound like me. I almost never think I'm pushing myself enough when I run, unless I'm doing a strenuous HIIT session.
