Trops Diary

I've been noticing certain aches and pains that I'm attributing to the running as well as just being old/fat/out of shape. I almost canceled today because my ankle was stiff and sore. I decided to run through it, and the stiffness went away. hopefully I'm not doing damage, but I also don't want to give into excuses too easily.

Hey Trops!
It's so good to be back, and it looks like you're doing great. I have been to the gym only once since I got back to school a couple weeks ago, and I could barely run for 2 minutes without having to stop and walk (but I didn't usually do more than 6 or 7 minutes at a time before). I'm so out of shape. But I want to get better at running, even though I think its boring. You're great motivation. I'd love to be at that level some day.

Hey, Gonna, glad to see you back. How was the summer?

I had a really bad (amazingly fun) weekend. Drank way too much. ate way too much. Partied way, well I partied a lot. :hurray: I went camping with a big group of friends that most of them I hadn't seen in two years. It's good to get back and let it fly. :cheers2:

This morning I weighed in at 206.6. Too high, but I'm sure it'll be down in no time. This week I'm on evening shift and that's my good one for weight loss. I'm also working all weekend next weekend, so that will keep me on the straight and narrow.

One good thing. I got a letter from the blood drive last week. They do a Cholesterol screening. Where I was before I lost weight was always around 230. Border line high, and always recommend that I start medication to get it down. This time it read 179. Big difference. They don't separate the HDL and LDL, so I'll have to get that checked one of these days, but I wasn't too concerned before and I'm not too concerned now.

Yeah, had a blast. Went camping upstate. Beautiful country up there. I'd love to move there, but I'm not leaving my job till I retire. Also not a fan of the schools up there, but my friends that live there are some of the nicest people around.

It's probably a good thing that I'm not too close to them, though. I'd probably be getting into trouble all the time. :cheers2: I think I slept about 7-8 hours total for the whole weekend. Good thing I'm off from work today.

I'm off also. I think i'm about to go to bed though. Had a quite night but I'm still not used to sleeping at the station. Got like 2-3 hours last night.

Yeah, that's a tough one. It's a lot harder to sleep when you aren't ready then it is to stay awake when you are tired. Sleeping in the day is tough, too, especially when you have little ones around the house. Good luck with that one. (ear plugs help)

Hey Trops :)

Glad to hear you had an excellent weekend. It's always nice to reconnect with old friends and party. Sleeping during the day used to be my specialty, lol... I just had to make sure I had the fan going in my room and dark curtains to block out the sun because I was such a vampire (still kind of am I guess, lol).

(LOL Sam)

Hey Trops, your weekend sounded fabulous. I can relate, I ate too much and I DID drink some beer--but 2 beers Friday and 2 yesterday. Not much, and only out of line for my "no beer" thing, not out of line for my "minimal alcohol" thing. I likewise connected with old friends and family of friends that are like my own family. I blame it on THEM ;) Just kidding, no blame here, just ready to start tracking calories and exercise on an Excel spreadsheet like I used to, and like I do when "being careful" isn't working anymore. Have a good day!

Well, today did not go exactly as planned. I was all set to go to the gym and hit it hard. I mean all dressed and just peek into my wife's office to tell her that I'm going and she says that she thought I was going to go for a walk with her for her lunch. Well, of course I am. So we do that. It was a good long walk, but no real cardio, unless you count some good laughs.

Normally it wouldn't be so bad but I have to go out tonight for something and I don't think I'll get back to get to the gym.

Oh, and I'm making pot roast for dinner. I don't make it too often since it takes forever to cook, but I did today. It should be ready in about a half hour and so far the tastes are amazing. So good. I don't think I should have any. It's just too much. :svengo:

Ok, I found a compromise. When dinner was ready and on the table, I ran out to the gym for a real quick workout. Lifted weights, but no cardio. I also couldn't keep my fingers out of the pot roast. :drool5: Damn, I never made a roast this good. Added a secret ingredient which made a big difference.

Now I have to go try to get my computer fixed. :banghead: My laptop died, and I'm hoping to get my files off the hard drive. That would be a lot of pictures lost. I really don't want that. :(

I took my laptop to the Geek Squad. They told me that the mother board is shot, and it would take somewhere around 500 to fit it with a new board. A new laptop (with better stats) would cost about 800 plus another 100-160 to move my files. :ack2:

Luckily it was late and the family was waiting for me, so I figured I'd do it the next day (today) when I had more time. even more lucky for me, my wife is not only beautiful, smart, and wonderful in every way, she's also money savvy. She went on line and found out that my laptop has a product recall on the mother board for the exact symptoms that I was seeing. How about that. I called them, and they are sending a free shipping box and label. It should be about a week to two weeks to get it fixed, but that's so much better then buying a new computer. (Thanks, F) :sifone:

Today I was going to go running again, and my wife asked if I wanted to go for a walk. This time I decided to go running first and then go for a walk. I didn't do the full distance that I've been doing, but I did do 2.7 miles in 23 min 45 sec. That's about a min fifteen faster then I did that last week. Now I'm going to go for a walk, so that should double up.

I'm working the evening shift tonight, and I won't have my laptop, so I won't be hanging out on here as much. I can go on the office computer, but it's a shared computer and I don't like to spend too much time there. I'll have to see how it goes. Maybe I'll do another workout later. :coolgleamA:

Hey Trops,

Sorry to hear the lap-top died... Mine did that a few months ago, and I just ended up buying a new one. I needed one anyways. Glad to hear you found a cheaper alternative, with the help of your very smart, sweet wife :)
Hope your shift at work this evening goes smoothly.

....TROPS back in action......the WRECKS n EFFECTS! ;)

Just wanted to say hi, and that you still impress me. You seem to have such a good life, and just go with the flow. I'm also impressed by your running. I lost a lot of strength and endurance over break. I can only run for 2 minutes at a time now. But hopefully I'll build it up again quickly. I forget, whats your goal weight again?

Thanks, Gonna, Alta, Sam, Paula for the kind words.

Gonna, I'm glad that I'm impressing someone. I was just looking at something called VO2Max, and it's showing that I'm one out of shape old man. Well, I can deal with that. My ultimate goal is 185, still have about 20 pounds to go, but if I get down to 195 I'll be real happy. I'm killing to get under 200. I'd really love to get there by Oct first. Don't see it happening unless I really kick it into high gear. I feel like I'm coasting with a small kick here and there. :ack2:
