Tomble's Weight Loss Journal! I welcome your opinions!

Wow, I just discovered the multi quote button! This is awesome!

Congrats on the halfway mark for yourself!
In this case, it appears that the glass is HALF EMPTY now, isn't it?
The GPS device you have sounds pretty cool too.
Keep on truckin', er, WALKING/RUNNING!

Thanks, Ryan! I'm about half a pound away from actually hitting my half way mark. It's making me reconsider my Junk Food Friday :) Nah, I can't skip that, my body needs grease :)

WOW good for you, you are burning them up like crazzzy...isnt that great to know...you are only fueling your body...excellent!!!

Thanks!! I was surprised to see how much energy I was burning!

Dude...you're killin me!!! I gotta step up my game! Congrats!

Haha. Well, I'm not going to slow down for you, haha :) You'll catch up though. I haven't been doing the crunches and stuff you're doing, so you're more likely to end up with the rippling abs!

Wow Tomble, you're such an inspiration, congrats on the loss, and keep it going. :D

Awww, thanks :) It feels weird to be thought of so well about this seeing as how badly I was doing for such a long time. Your support helps so much!

Woo Hoo!!
Look at you reaching the half way mark :)

Almost. Alllllmost at the half way mark... I can almost touch it! Half a pound or so and I am there!

Heya's Tomble,
Hope your enjoying the warm weather still
I don;'t wish this bitter cold on anyone it is going down to 9
degrees I dunno know what that makes the windchill at?Congrats
on another successfull day! Tammy;)

These bushires are awful.

Today is supposed to be hot and sunny, instead it's cool, and attached is a photo of what it looks like outside my house. That's not mist, the sky isn't full of clouds. It's all smoke. If the smoke was gone, it would be clear skies. (For my North American friends, note the cars on the left!).

in the state of Victoria, where I live. Hundreds of square miles of bushland are burning, and they are trying to stop it all joining up into one enormous firefront. There's no danger to me here in suburbia, but it's still saddening to see such huge losses of bushland and property. Worse yet, they think that later in summer will be even more prone to huge burns. I just hope nobody is killed.

Rain is forecast on Sunday, so hopefully that helps.

Sigh. On a more trivial news front, I had my junk food night last night and am temporarily up a kilo! It was worth it!

Hello my friend! Sorry to hear about your smoke infested skies! To paraphrase the ex-pres Bill Clinton, "Don't inhale!" Ha.
Sugar free for 12 days my friend! I'm running on all cylinders!
If you don't mind sharing, what did you eat for your fast food last night?
It is calorie free to HEAR what you had.

Imagine if burning Eucalypts and other native plants had a narcotic effect! Hahah. There would be a lot more arson!

Good for you! Do you find yourself wanting it less?

Well, I had fried chicken with chips, a couple of christmastime fruit mince pies, a beer or two. I couldn't finish the fried chicken though, it was just too much and I didn't want it.

Oh, and fruit mince pies are a fruit pie with a pastry casing. They look like . They are so delicious.

Yummy!

Damn! Those look delicious!

To answer one of your questions (Do I find myself craving sugar less?),
the answer is YES. I am NOT craving sugar as much as I thought I would.
Now, do I imagine tasting a fresh chocolate chip cookie and enjoying it. I sure do!
However, the cravings are being pushed to the curb with each day.
I plan on two more days of this HARDCORE CLEANSING (no red meat, sweets, soda, etc.).
However, I will not be dipping into the bad stuff anytime soon.

Yeah, fruit mince pies are REALLY good, and the proper ones have a splash of brandy with the fruit. The only problem is that they are about 250 calories EACH. So, I have one for breakfast occasionally :) There's a lot of butter in the pastry, and the filling is fairly sweet, and they are usually dusted with sugar too. It's a good thing they're only in the shops for a coupe of months!

I used to be a real chocolate hound, now I think about buying it and my main thought is `I don't really want it'. I could have bought some last night with no guilt, being junk food night, but I just walked past it in the supermarket.

I'm not going to say that weight loss is easy, but it's becoming a lot easier with the reduction in desire for all those bad foods. Eating non fatty / non sugary foods, it can be surprising just how much I can eat before hitting a good calorie limit for the day.

Heya's Tomble,
Yummmy those fruit pies look good!
Congrats on your non sugar craving's I am still struggling it
will get better tho! Have a funtastic weekend,Tammy:)

Guess who ate too much pizza for dinner?

A couple of hints. His name starts with `Tom' ends with `ble' and rhymes with `Tomble'.

Yeesh, I hate to think how many calories were in there. Largely offset by the fact I didn't really eat today (didn't feel hungry and knew I had a big dinner coming). Still, too much food! Also had a beer, who can resist a drop of the ol' homebrew after a hot, hot day.

Ah well. I am ahead of my weight loss goal anyway, and I will be walking a lot during the week to burn it off.

Hiya Tammy! Fruit mince pies are indeed delicious. There are many recipes for them online, if you ever feel tempted to make them. They are a very traditional English Christmas time recipe.

I've completely avoided sugar (Except for that in a mince pie!) but I ate a lot of pizza tonight! Such is life!

The longer you go without refined sugar, the easier I think you will find it. People aren't really meant to eat that much sugar anyway - the high levels of diabetes can attest to that. I now find a piece of fruit to be wonderfully sweet, and it supplies all my sugar cravings!

Good to see you've put my favourite avatar back up :)

I'm currently wearing a pair of shorts I sewed myself. The thing is, I've lost 9kg (20lb) since I bought the pattern, and they are kind of large. At least they are roomy and comfortable, but they seem awfully baggy.

Mornin Man... had a tad bit o pizza eh? It's all good... I haven't weighed this morning, but last night AFTER dinner...I was still at 232 which means this morning I"m guarenteed to be lower. I'm excited! I need to get to the point to where I'm avoiding sugar for like a week...just to see the effects of my body...maybe I'll do that this week to see..it gets harder during this time of year when everyone is bringing in apple pies and cupcakes and sugar cookies! Both my parents are diabetic so I'm a shoe in if I stay overweight... want to avoid that like the plague...needles to the stomach everyday is NOT my idea of good fun!

Hiya! Thought I'd respond before I head to bed (1.12 a.m, here.)

Yeah, the pizza might not have been the best plan, but I made the decision that I could deal with it. I'll burn some extra calories during the week to make up for it!

I love stepping on the scales before bed and realising I will be at a new light weight in the morning! Best thing ever, and a real incentive to get out of bed.

Ah, this is the time of year to test your resolve, with all the wonderful foods around, and the general expectation of overindulgence!

Wow, both parents being diabetic is a major risk factor. I reckon that when you slim down and if you can quit the sugar, or at least get it down to a low, low level, you should have a very small risk. I think it's sedentary lifestyle and wayyyyyy too much sugar which does it to most people.

I did some research online, and even overweight I don't have a high risk factor for it (no family history etc). Still, I got a cold sweat reading up on it, it's a nasty, nasty disease, and one of the reasons I quit sugar. Every time I got thirsty I would wonder if it was a symptom!

. The needles to the belly every day are nothing compared to what it can do to you. I speak from some experience - my partner has multiple sclerosis, and has to have an injection daily. It's surprisingly non-traumatic once you're used to it. I once had needle phobia, and I'll tell you now that giving someone an injection nightly for months gets you over that, real quick!

Hope to catch you online soon, chatting on skype was a blast :)

Yeah man... get some rest! It was fun on skype! Both parents have high blood pressure too..but luckily I've never had that problem...but my sister and brother do. I'm pretty alright with needles....

As for the season...I did VERY well over Thanksgiving over here..lost 2 pounds so...I have high hopes for Christmas! Send me an email or message me when ya get up...it'll be evening here... maybe I'll catch ya on skype or somethin... have a good night!

Hi Tomble. How are you? What is it like walking with all that smoke around - does it make much difference? Sooo hot too! Are the evenings or mornings cool enough to walk in? Do you have good air conditioning?

Pizza smells so good doesn't it? I think on my plan I would have to stick to one piece - plus make entire protein and vege meal to go with it!

I agree that this is a testing time of year. I am already planning how to cope with Christmas Day. It must be great for you to feel that you are really in control of your eating and sometimes add in little treats now!!

Hiya Felici! I'm doing pretty well, though I certainly ate more than I should have over the weekend! I would have thought the smoke would be more of a problem than it was, but after an hour or so I couldn't smell it, and it didn't make me sneeze or cough. I walked on Sunday morning, and that day turned out at 38C (100+F), but since I was out and about by 8am, I beat the worst of it.

Loved that pizza, but I ate wayyy too much of it. However, I made the choice to eat it, rather than thinking `just one piece' and then going crazy, I figured I would double the length of my walk the next day and eat very lightly.

I am the cook for Christmas Day, and I will need all my willpower to avoid doing too much tasting and nibbling. I might just write off Christmas day as a real blowout day. Hmm, now I think about it, Christmas Day actually falls on Junk Food day. That's convenient!

Okay, so after I worked out that my GPS could map path data in Google Earth, I suddenly came up with a plan.

I am going to walk every single street in my neigbourhood. When that is done, I will move on to adjoining neighbourhoods.

EVERY street. No exceptions. If I come to a court or dead end, I will walk down one side and back up the other. Then I can plot it out and see where I have been.

I already love exploring on foot `Urban Ranger' style. Seeing interesting houses, getting familiar with all the streets, shortcuts, parks and other things you can find. I'll also be covering any walking tracks through parklands that I come across.

This is going to be fun :)

Short term walking goal: another 100km (62mi) before end of the year.

2007 Walking goal - 2500km by end of year (that's 1560 miles).
