Tomble's Weight Loss Journal! I welcome your opinions!

Hm, it just occurred to me that despite eating poorly on the weekend, I didn't have any sugar. I didn't even try to avoid it, just never really considered it.

Also, the weather here has cooled down and the skies are clear of smoke. The fires are still burning, and I think the high winds we had might cause some problems. I wish it would rain!

Okay, so after I worked out that my GPS could map path data in Google Earth, I suddenly came up with a plan.

I am going to walk every single street in my neigbourhood. When that is done, I will move on to adjoining neighbourhoods.

EVERY street. No exceptions. If I come to a court or dead end, I will walk down one side and back up the other. Then I can plot it out and see where I have been.

I already love exploring on foot `Urban Ranger' style. Seeing interesting houses, getting familiar with all the streets, shortcuts, parks and other things you can find. I'll also be covering any walking tracks through parklands that I come across.

This is going to be fun :)

Short term walking goal: another 100km (62mi) before end of the year.

2007 Walking goal - 2500km by end of year (that's 1560 miles).

You need to change your username to Forest Gump! Grow a ZZtop beard too! :p :p That's an awesome goal man! Does your girl go walking with you? Yesterday, MTM&K and I ended up doing pushups together...I don't know about anyone else..but for some reason, it was DAMN sexy seeing her doing pushups with me.. :D  :D

Can't wait till the no sweets thing happens to me. Workin on it. Don't have such an intense craving as much as I used too. My weigh in is tomorrow...can't wait...even if I stayed where I started (231.5) I'll be happy..but I'm HOPING for less! Wish me luck

Not sure if you wanted the info on the study I was talking about, about pesticides in US foods...

The book is called, The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods, by Murray. Pg 785
Some examples from the study:
39 pesticides found on Sweet Bell Peppers
17 pesticides on broccoli and onions
10 """ spinach...

Shocking isn't it?

That GPS thing is fantastic isn't it. I tried those pedometers a couple of times but kept dropping them, resetting them when I didn't want to, and not being able to reset them when I did want to!! Too cheap and nasty I guess.

That thing you have is a whole different ball game. What a great tool for you.

It is motivating hearing about your walking. I have surprised myself by starting to feel that it needs to be part of my day now. (Used to just know it.)

Roll on rain!!

Hiya Tammy!

I'm slowly increasing the amount of streets I've covered, but it's frustrating to look on the map and see I've missed some little connecting street somewhere! I'm also really motivated to walk home a different way each night in order to ensure proper coverage of all the streets :)

Xmas and birthdays are, in my opinion, definite `eat all you want' days. They only happen once a year, and life should be enjoyed. The thing is, you don't have to feel obliged to eat it all, just have what you want.

Mmm, carrots.

The pedometers aren't bad, I have a digital one, but I also have one with a big dial and a needle that slowly rotates as you cover distance. That one is surprisingly accurate.

The GPS is just amazing. It's one of those electronic devices that gives me a feeling like I'm looking at something magical. Combine that with Google Earth and it's just profoundly amazing.

I will post the google earth file which shows my walking sometime soon, it's pretty cool to look at!

Glad you're getting into the walking spirit. I feel like I've missed out on something if I don't walk every day, and I love watching the distance increase!

I once had needle phobia, and I'll tell you now that giving someone an injection nightly for months gets you over that, real quick!

Haha, why are so many guys afraid of needles? o_O Whenever I give blood I watch it and the people drawing it get kind of weirded out... But I think that it's interesting, lol.

Good job with the miles =D I wonder how many I've traveled... It would have been cool if I kept track all these years.

Your neighborhood plan sounds cool. Explore new frontiers!

I *was* afraid of needles because I hadn't had many. I got over my fears when I was going overseas and had about 6 injections to get myself immunised against everything.

I too would love to know the total distance I have walked in my life. It would be a LONG way.

Hi! Thanks for posting in my before and after pictures thread :) You're doing great by the way:) you're more than halfway there! There's no turning back now! :)

Wooohooooo!

So, I hopped on the scales this morning, not expecting too much...

:D :) :D :) :D WOOHOO! :D :) :D :) :)

I lost another kilo! I AM OVER THE 50% mark! (52% to be exact!). My new weight - 102.5kg (225lb). I am as light as I have been since April 2004, which was as light as I had been since late 1997.

That was my first goal! My next goal is 100kg (220lb) which I hope to achieve by the end of the year! Yayyyy!

Touche my friend Touche!!!! That is AWESOME! You rock man... I'm glad you made your goal. You'll be down to 220 in NO time my friend! You're doing awesome!!!!

G'Day Tom! how the heck are ya mate?! Good I hope! I've broken into the 220's myself now! Catchin up! Hows business?

Gday! I'm bloody good, mate, real beaut in fact.

Good work on the 220s! Now for the 210s! Business is good, and very very busy! Haven't had much time to be on here unfortunately!

Talk to you soon,

Tom.

Thanks so much! Your support really helps, I hope I give back as good as I get!

That 220 is, for me, a real mark because it is 100kg. I can go from 3 digits on my scales to 2 digits. Argh! I can't wait to see that 9 on the scale. I can't believe I've lost so much weight either! I was looking in the mirror and wondering where it all fit on me. I wear lycra sporting shorts under my work clothes when I walk to work, and they used to be really tight - which was good, preventing chafing etc.

Now they are almost loose! I will have to use my awesome powers of sewing to make them smaller :)

I keep saying it though, I REALLY have to start doing an exercise routine which involves crunches and stuff. I'm going to sit down this weekend and find a copy of that Maya software.
