I would pour that "wine" down the sink. UGH! That actually made me shudder! Good for you going for that run Oaks. Hope you sort out your issues with your bf & enjoy your dinner. Cheers, Cate

Mexican food personal challenge: 4 out of 5. I caved with a margarita and nope, still wasn't worth it. Oh, well, it could have been worse! The whole reason we went out was because the restaurant is right near the pet store and we needed food for our guinea pigs. So I spent ten minutes watching the baby pigs play. I named one Meep and I want him. Badly. Alas, there is no extra space in our living room for a cage, and I wouldn't keep my kiddos anywhere else.

Cate, thanks for the kind words! We're both stubborn and the dinner out was just what we needed. We were back to normal afterwards! :)

I woke up early for a 4 mile run today. 4.02 miles, according to my running app, in 45:37. I took a 100 calorie energy gel beforehand because my last 4 miler wiped me out (I run on an empty stomach usually). My pace was exactly the same but my splits were interesting. Typically I run mile 1 the fastest and then slow down, and none of my miles take the same amount of time. This time, miles 1 through 3 were all within seconds of each other, and I sped up for mile 4. And had energy leftover, I could have kept going had I not been out of time. Felt good!!

Edit: Nice run! I should try the energy gels to see if they help. I was wiped out from step one this morning.

I've never had a guinea pig or other small mammal/rodent pet. I had rats in my classroom, but they were mostly for the kids and I did not get attached. They are always cute in the pet store, but I never have considered one. We raised rabbits for food when I was a child, but they were still fun to play with. They eat guinea pigs in Peru. Hmmm. Not really!

These little squeakers are my best buddies! We aren't ready to take care of a dog, we both (claim to) have some level of allergies to cats, and fish don't talk back to you like other pets. So here we are, two grown-ups and their guinea pigs.

Q, I tried this gel by Huma: I was going to mention these the other day when you wrote about low energy in the morning, but I hadn't actually tried them yet. I'm looking forward to experimenting more with them.

Went out with my co-workers tonight. (LJ, I'm riding back to Riverside, this trip is SO LONG). I did have a few drinks, but I'm very much sober, which is rare for a night with this crew. Told the other half I was heading home before 9 and he was surprised it was so early. I have a reputation, even on weeknights. We went to a place with expensive drinks and frito pie. I indulged in both, but the drinks were just meh. Shoulda stuck with beer. Anyway, I'm trying to improve my relationship with alcohol, and this was a solid first step.

Good job on the booze moderating!

The Huma gel sounds like a good one. I have some Chia bars with pretty similar ingredients/calories and since they are on hand I will likely try that in the morning. Cafe mocha might be a good one. What flavor(s) have/will you tried/try?

It's the coconut flavored ones. It's really yummy.

Thanks, LaMa! It's going to be a process and I will fully admit that for a large part of last night I just felt awkward and boring, but I'm hoping that feeling will go away if I continue to drink more responsibly.

Q, I tried the mango gel yesterday, which was good. The first slurp was weird but I've never tried gels before, so I think I just didn't know what to expect. Subsequent slurps were tasty. I bought the sample pack, so I get to try them all! Except for strawberry, I think I gave that one away to a fellow distance runner. I'll report back as I try new flavors. Those bars look good, I love the simple ingredient list. I'll have to give those a try. I'm a sucker for anything with chia seeds!

Good job on reeling in the booze last night.

The Riverside ride seems to stop every 10 seconds, doesn't it... Though it's cool if you think of my daughter saying (nodding in a very serious and impressive way) "The train goes UNDER THE GROUND!!"

For those who may have been wondering, the chocolate wine is much better cold. But I still wouldn't buy it again.

Well done with the alcohol!! That's really awesome!
The gels look interesting - I don't think I've ever seen something like that here.
Still not convinced on chocolate wine :p

Your piggies are so cute! We had rats before cats and they made lovely pets. I love the noises piggies make--So cute. Are they indoor ones?

Thanks, Blue! I'm making baby steps with lowering my alcohol consumption, but I'm headed in the right direction. It's not even about weight loss, just about overall healthy living. Having an outlet here on the forum is great for sharing my little accomplishments, so thanks for reading!

Hana, they are indoor pigs. They've got a corner of our living room and we're bad about letting them out to play, but they do have two really large connected cages to run around in all the time. I love their little noises, although one of mine is a mute :( But we love him just the same!

Ahhhh, the holiday season is here. I'm heading off shortly to a "Friendsgiving" gathering. My contribution was homemade mac and cheese. There will be lots of treats, but I want to spend so much time chatting it up that I leave too little time for eating. Wish me luck, haha.
