The mind is the enemy

Keep the blanket fort, but soon the new habit will be firmly set and you will be free to slide around on the kitchen floor in your socks with no fear.

That is the most ambitious statement I've heard in quite some time! I'll start padding my cabinets now in anticipation of this milestone.

The snack monster is rearing its ugly head today! Make it stop! And darn you, office kitchen, for being an easy place to deposit your unwanted treats. I've utilized you in the past, sure, most recently when a box of soft frosted sugar cookies went unopened during a party. But today, on the Monday after Halloween, I loathe you..

If you have the time to go into the office kitchen you have the time to draw the snack monster. Which would probably be more fun and certainly less calorie-dense ;)

Food for Monday went like this:

Breakfast - 1/2 cup cottage cheese after the gym, homemade pumpkin spice granola bar later
Snack - 2 pieces of Halloween candy
Lunch - Salad with black beans, with a roll
Snack - 4 pieces of candy + Nature Valley breakfast biscuits
Dinner - Chicken pot pie
Snack - Queso Fundido Goldfish crackers + 2 beers

Pros: Solid gym workout in the morning. Lots of water before leaving for work. Cottage cheese directly after working out in an attempt to ward off post-run hunger.

Cons: Chocolate in the morning. Processed snacks galore. Weekday beer. Pouring Goldfish directly into my mouth from the bag. Eeep.

Mmm, I remember goldfish from my trips to Idaho. Deliciousness. We don't have a microwave either..It broke about a year ago and we never replaced it. Only time it gets annoying is when I bring leftovers home from work and I have to heat them in the oven rather than just whack them in the microwave..But always tastes nicer out of the oven anyway :D

Pleeeeeease draw the snack monster! And post it up here!

Goldfish are a primary food source for toddlers, so we always have them in the cabinet. And the floor, and under the couch, and even a couple in the toilet (perhaps escaping their cruel fate?)

Goldfish from the bag and beers would have been right up my alley. Flaming hot cheetos and beer would have been an exact replica of far too many evenings circa 2013. I miss crunchy cheese snacks and beer. I wonder how they are doing without me? I hope they're doing better too. There was always love, but we really hurt each other and in the end it was best to part ways.

My BIL has 3 kids from toddlers to 5 and they buy goldfish in a giant carton. Like it could hurt a child if it fell from the counter giant.

Nice job getting the run done. I did too!

I'm going to go ahead and assume that these multiple posts mentioning 'goldfish' as a food source refer to a nickname for something that is definitely not a scaley vertebrate that lives in a bowl?!

Oaks sounds like you are doing pretty well, despite evil office kitchen and devilish Halloween snacks. Sometimes the routine is shaken by holidays, illness, events, etc but so long as you can get back on track or at least maintain the fundamentals of the routine (like going to the gym) it shouldn't be tooooo drastic a dilema. :)

And I concur with Little John. I need to see this snack monster.

Hana, I'm glad you know what goldfish are! Lou, they are these little tiny cheese crackers.... So light and airy, and easy to chow down on! Q, I remember those giant cartons growing up, except that we bought generic so I believe ours were whales, haha. Giant tubs of whales and giant tubs of cheese balls are my memories of childhood! Oh, and giant tubs of store brand ice cream.

I'm starting to see a trend.....

And to every one of you, I am going to find some colored pencils I know I still own and will be prepared for the next time the snack monster comes to visit! I'm picturing candy corn eyes.

I had candy corn last night for the first time in 2-3 years. So disgusting and gratifying. Still need to see the Potato Chip Chupacabra. The Nestle Nessy. The Edible Yeti.

Popping in quickly so you lovely people don't forget I exist! My brother is currently visiting, which means diet and exercise has been put on the back burner for a few days. I haven't seen him since LAST November, so having him here is a pretty big deal! I'll be back to my normal routine when he leaves on Sunday. I hope everyone is doing great!

Ack. The past 4 days were not good for my health! With my brother here we ate out every single day, sometimes twice. Chinese, pizza, sushi, grilled cheese, bar food, breakfast sandwiches. Too much drinking on Thursday. But lots of walking! He'd never been to Boston before so we did lots of exploring. We had a good time, but now it's time to get back to work. I need vegetables and a good run, haha.

Sounds like you had lots of fun, Oaks!
It's crazy how you get the craving for vegetables and 'real' food after eating some take away .. enjoy your veggies :)
