The mind is the enemy

Well, I weighed in this morning at 160.4 lbs, which is pretty much the same as my last weigh-in on October 30. I was honestly expecting higher after these last few days, so I will take it. I'm still getting focused on this whole weight loss thing.... Mostly I was afraid of going any higher, but I'll need to buckle down if I actually want to lose. Which I do!

It has been one day since my last 'sneaky snack'.
It has been two days since my last glass of wine.
It has been four days since I last drank hard alcohol.
It has been five days since my last run.

Welcome back from the fun, Oaks, sounds like you guys* had fun. Did you happen to discover any of the breweries in the area? Did you know about "Down East" cider? It tastes like non-fermented apple cider because of the yeast they use to ferment it.

You'll probably drop back down pretty quickly, it's probably a lot of water gain from (presumably) high-sodium delights.

You've probably already found that "you guys" is New England for "y'all"

To have no gain with that laundry list of food and drink is a victory. Been a long while since you've run. You know you miss it. :)

LJ, I've been to Harpoon for some drinking festivals, but that's my only experience with the breweries. I'd hoped to get my brother down to Sam Adams but that didn't end up working out. I've heard of Down East cider and up until thirty seconds ago had assumed it was from Maine! Learn something knew every day.

Q, I DO miss running! I got up early today with the intentions of running but ended up taking care of chores instead. One would think I'd take care of chores on Sunday but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. But tomorrow it's run time! No excuses! Maybe even tonight, if I feel like busting out the headlamp.

Oh and LJ, it's when people say "yous guys" that I get really weirded out. I'll add y'all back into my vocabulary before I start saying that.

Food for Monday went like this:

Breakfast - Grape Nuts cereal with soy milk
Lunch - Salad with hard boiled egg, garbanzo beans, etc, with balsamic and oil for dressing
Snacks - 2 rolls of Smarties candies after lunch. Greenish fruit smoothie around 3 (I'm not sure I put enough spinach in it to qualify as 'green')
Dinner - Curry with rice
Snack - 2 green tea mochi ice cream balls, 100 cals each

Pros: I was feeling cranky after dinner and wanted to be by myself. For maybe the first time ever I decided not to use tv (and subsequently food) in an attempt to make myself feel better. Instead I finished a puzzle in silence and then did some yoga.

Cons: The mochi was a sneaky snack. Hi my name is Oaks and it has been two hours since my last sneaky snack.

Green team mochi ice cream balls? You're killlllling me Oaks. Did you make them? What are they? Sounds amazing! Having time to yourself is so important. I like curling up with ginger tea and my cats and reading amazing books that I never get round to reading--Maybe I should try yoga!

Oh gosh, how do I describe mochi ice cream.... It's a ball of ice cream that's coated by this sweet sticky rice substance, which adds a lovely chewy consistency to go with the creamy cool inside. The sticky rice coating means you can eat it with your hands like a caveman. Only cavemen didn't have cool sh*t like mochi ice cream. I bought them, in a package of six and yes I did calculate how many calories it would be if I ate the whole thing. But I restrained myself. Barely.

"Yous guys" is a NJ/Philly thing, I think. Maybe some in NYC, but I don't think I've ever heard it uttered east of the Hudson river! Orrr... north of the LI Sound?

Mochi ice cream sounds like I should never allow it into my house. Ever put corn flakes on chocolate ice cream? Don't, there' no turning back when those get mixed.

Hi Oaks!

I used to get the Trader Joe brand green tea mochis. Yum!

Excellent job turning couch potato time into puzzle and yoga!

The mochi was delicious. Q, I did, in fact, buy them from Trader Joe's, so you know exactly what I was indulging in! I had actually gone in search of pumpkin pie mochi, but no such luck. Trader Joe's is a rare stop for me.... The parking lot in the closest store is always chaotic, and that's enough to turn me away. Plus every time I go, I end up with a cart full of various chocolate covered items. And cookie butter.

I really miss having a Trader Joe's but not the temptations it had. Cheap and good beer/wine, interesting cheeses, so many chocolate things and snacky stuff. The espresso covered chocolate truffles. The lemon wafer things. The tiny macadamia nut cookies. Yeah don't go there. They didn't have pumpkin spice mochi or cookie butter when I lived near them.

Tuesday recap:

Food was decent overall. Got another salad for lunch, and I'm digging having vegetables in my life. Two more mochi ice creams after dinner. I did treat myself to one glass of wine. Ever had a chocolate flavored wine? It tastes like a red tootsie pop and I in no way wanted a second glass.

Got up for a 3.46 mile run, too. Really didn't want to, but I did.

Today on the other hand... No early morning for me. I snoozed for an hour, eeep. Should have just reset my alarm but I couldn't admit defeat.

Nice run! It was 30 here for my run this morning. Snoozing would have been nice. So nice!

I will never taste, but always declare in willful ignorance that chocolate wine is disgusting.

A friend of mine swears that it's great over vanilla ice cream. Diabeetus!

I've had chocolate wine, it reminded me of a warm McD's chocolate milkshake. It was quite repulsive. I can see it working as an ice cream topping, though.

I do wish we had Trader Joe's nearby - a spot opened up in a nearby plaza that would have been perfect for my town which is constantly struggling to become a cool town. Instead they put in a Sav-A-Lot, which is the opposite of Trader Joe's.

I wish I could run more days each week but I've never gotten into that. I did my very first half marathon in 2 hours and 15 minutes, and trained on only three days a week. Which is pretty much my max. I'd love to get into the habit of two days in a row, with the second day being only a mile or two. But today the snooze button won, which is a shame because there was crazy fog and I think it's fun running in the fog.

I'm not sure I'm willing to risk ruining ice cream by dumping that wine on it! I'll likely drink one glass a night until the bottle is gone and just forget it ever existed.

Chocolate. Flavored. Wine? Perverts. I´ve had red wine with chocolate notes in the nose and that was wonderful but actual chocolate flavored wine?! Call me old-fashioned but here in Austria you flavor wine with... grapes. Really.

PS: if you insist on drinking this abomination try cooling the hell out of it, no matter what the color. Disgustingly sweet things can often become almost drinkable near freezing temperatures.

Don't blame us on the chocolate wine, blame the Dutch! You're closer to them, I recommend you go and personally scold each and every Dutchman (or Dutchwoman).

Cooling the wine is a great idea, LaMa, especially because the bottle might be open for a few more days before I can choke it down, haha. It tasted so artificial and the smell of the empty glass on the table next to me was even hard to handle!

My boyfriend has requested a trip to a Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight. We've been having a few issues lately, and I think a mid-week date with no TV distraction will be very helpful for us. I've just got to be careful with my ordering. I'm all about everything in moderation though, so I'm still going to enjoy my meal.

Here's what I'm thinking.....
-No margarita. They don't make them nearly as tasty as we do at home, so it's not even worth it.
-No eating chips from the communal bowl. I'll add them to my little plate all at once and be done once they're done.
-Black beans instead of refried beans.
-No sour cream!
-No crunchy shells of any kind. I'll probably have some enchiladas.

And on a completely different note, I have been peeing like crazy all dang day. This means that I am only today getting fully rehydrated after my four day terrible food binge. I usually experience this on Mondays but I've clearly not been drinking enough water these past few days!
