The mind is the enemy

Do you guys ever try something new and then get excited when you don't like it? I tried a dried kiwi today and it tasted like dirt. And I've wanted to try a dried kiwi for a long time now, but I avoid any dried fruit with added sugar (I get enough sugar from my candy, thank you very much). Today I gave in, and I'm glad because now I can quit thinking about them.

:D That´s awesome. And totally relatable! Did temptation manage to tear down the wall of your blanket fort or did you resist the siege until your knight in shining armor got out of the shower?

No sneaky eating last night but I did snack publicly. We had birthday cupcakes at work yesterday so I stole two to take home for sharing. They were little guys at least, and I don't feel bad about those as they were a planned treat. But then there were late night pita chips that were eaten when I really should have already been in bed.

Oh, yeah, G was crazy happy I surprised him with a cupcake yesterday because he happened to be having a rare craving for something cake-like. He said he had gone looking for this prepackaged lemon cookie he had in the cupboard when he got home from work but it wasn't there.... That would be because I had it eaten it during the previous night's temptation period. Whoopsie!

I can so relate to the cookie thing.

Mrs. Q: Oh, I'm going to eat some ______!
Me: We don't have any.
Mrs. Q: Yes we do! I bought a whole bag/box/palate 2 days ago.
Me: We don't have any.
Mrs. Q: ...Oh

Not anymore really, but most of our lives.

Blanket fort FTW!

Yea I've totally done that before too. Actually, my husband when he wants junk food and brings it home usually lets it sit there for AGES before eating it. I'll ask if I can have some to which he says he doesn't care, then I proceed to eat most of it. And he says nothing. Which is why he's not allowed to bring junk food home anymore, it's always me that ends up eating it!!

SNOW STORM!! I am SO excited to have a real snowfall outside. LJ, are you getting it, too? I'm a little kid in the snow, I was spinning around in circles in the driveway earlier. I was supposed to visit a friend later to see her kiddos but I'm homebound instead. Homemade spaghetti and meatballs and homemade ice cream later....yes, I still want ice cream in the snow.

As long as you are not actually suffering from hypothermia there is no icecream-free weather. I´m almost jealous of your white bounty, but knowing I have to work on monday makes me very happy it´s so far away!

I had a mini cupcake this morning!! It was SO good! Only 93 cals so I didn't feel too guilty about it!
We are in a major melt right now with out snow! So gross and slushy out! We are getting up to like +16 when normally our winter temps are -20!

Lucy, it's the same way in our house! He gets a craving for brownies, makes a tray, eats two and the craving is gone. Ok...so who is going to eat the rest?? I'm planning on stocking the freezer with some cookie dough soon, that way he can make just a few cookies the next time he wants something fresh baked and homemade. Hopefully that will do the trick.

LaMa, tomorrow we've got a blizzard coming, and knowing it's a work day makes it even better.... Grown up snow days are the best!!! I'm almost certain the office will be closed. I'm thankful to work in finance, where the work can just be put off another day in times like these.

Mystic I absolutely love the snow but the inevitable melty slush is the worst :( It's such a sad end. And it's annoying. Those temps of yours are crazy warm!!!

Ha, I actually wish I had someone to eat my leftover goodies. I wouldn´t have any trouble aeting just a bit if I knew there was someone who was going to enjoy the rest, even days later. As it is I get greedy and have the excuse I´ll end up eating it anyway cause stuff will go bad if I don´t ;)

I feel as though I haven't really been writing anything substantial lately. Perhaps because I haven't really been focused on anything lately.

Exercise update - It has been over a week since I exercised at all, with the exception of skiing on Sunday. My cold was my excuse, but I didn't even bother trying to do anything. I'm sure a little yoga would have made me feel good. My right calf right now is killing me from skiing, so I should really do some yoga to help stretch that out.

Food update - Sunday and Monday had a lot more fast food/takeout than normal. McDonald's for breakfast (we were beginning a two hour drive) and Thai food for dinner on Sunday, then a gyro for lunch on Monday with the rest of my Thai for dinner. That's not typical for us, thankfully. My win was following up dinner with the smallest bowl of homemade ice cream imaginable. And also not using today's snow day as an excuse to drink a lot last night. I had one pumpkin beer and that was it.

Weather update - We're expecting 16 to 24 inches when all is said and done. I love watching the news when everyone has been up for way too long. One of the meteorologists just wrote 'Go Pats' on the map while the other one was trying to report and had no idea it was going on live TV. Everyone is loopy.

Hi Oak. It seems your self-commitment is cooling down, which is absolutely normal. Weight Management is a mind training as well as body workout and diet. Your mind could be your best ally if you make use of it. I have helped people mange their weight with mindset modification only (40 lbs in 6 months, no diet, no workout). What will help you keep up your good job in long run is having a support system in form of personal weight management coach or having a support group/system. Your coach will keep you focused and committed and walk the weight management path with you, and help you have sustainable results.
Hope it helps.

Hm... Maybe stretching would be a good go-to for days when I could easily convince myself I don´t have enough energy to work out. Would probably help cementing the habit. Thanks for the tip!

I'm AWFUL about stretching, so do as I say and not as I do, ladies. I did torture myself with 'The Stick*' last night, though, and the calf is world's better today.

More takeout today.... Since the outside world is snow-covered and treacherous, my company brought in pizza for us so we could stay indoors allllll day. I had one piece of pizza, one roll, and two separate cookie halves. I do not feel bad about the cookies because they were amazing and we've never had these particular ones before. I do feel bad about the roll because it didn't even taste exciting to me but I finished it anyway.

*'The Stick' is a plastic massage stick that I use on my legs. It helps with sore muscles and is really good at locating knots. On their website it is described as "a toothbrush for muscles", which doesn't make even a little bit of sense to me.

I have a stick that is 3 hard rubber spiky balls that spin on a rod. It does okay, but not as good as foam rolling IMO. It's quick and easy so i do it when i don't bother with the roller so it's good that i have it.

Make a plan Missy! You don't have to have a race or a contest to be focused you just need a plan. Maybe decide what you'd like to be doing optimally and devise a plan that builds in small increments towards that goal. I started with an idea of forming a habit of daily exercise and did it by counting anything at all. I'd touch my toes or walk to the end of the driveway. Granted I was in miserable shape with my back at the time, but it started the ball rolling in the right direction.

Figure out what Oaks needs and what Oaks wants and go get it.

You did a great job with eating the pizza but keeping portions in mind. Eating one slice can be HARD!! I always find I eat at least 3 slices (plus a lot of bread sticks!)!

I find it hard to motivate myself when I can´t go outside, but setting apart the same half hour every day usually helps me to get into things again. Lowers the treshold for lifting my butt of the couch. Good job restraining yourself with pizza and cookies!

But Q, it's so cooold out there!! Honestly, that was my reason today, I put together a gym outfit last night, then checked the weather....And then set my alarm for later than gym time. Blah. This was after two days of the gym being closed for the snow. I know I'm making excuses. I did do a thirty minute yoga video last night. Well, 27 minutes, Adriene spent the last few minutes talking to ducks or geese or something.

My method of pizza portion control was waiting ten minutes after the pizza was delayed almost an hour.... A hungry office crew storming in the kitchen meant automatic portion control by the time I strolled in later.

LaMa, I struggle in the winter because I am definitely a morning person in the other seasons. But making sure I do SOMETHING immediately after dinner will be a good habit for now. That's what I did last night, finished up the dishes and then straight to yoga. I'll save the butt imprints on the couch for after I've worked that butt out.

As long as you are exercising it doesn't matter if you aren't running. It's not safe is a valid reason. Run when you can safely access a treadmill or when things thaw a bit. I just feel like you are a goal oriented person and you said you have lacked focus lately. No judgement, just encouragement. We have had no winter weather other than temperatures so I am in a decent place for winter running, but I still go to the gym because it is a pain to run in the dark. It was in the mid 70s when I ran at the gym yesterday evening. I was really hoping for more winter than this and we may get it yet.
