The mind is the enemy

Q! I must have known you'd be popping in today when I got myself to the gym. I wanted you to be proud. It was 10?, by the way, with a negative wind chill. That's stay in bed weather if you ask me.

Hey I am quite proud! 10?? I know what the "F" stands for. I was so hot for my Mon-Wed runs. It was in the mid 80s when I was working in the field and in the low 80s by the time I ran. I was hot! Acclimation is a real thing. When I am in those temperatures after weeks of 100+ it feels cold, but going from 40s to 80s made it feel hot.

I'm in a weird place right now. Running is the release valve to my stress and I am maxed out on both counts. I wish I was capable of running more and more often despite the 1.25 mile a day minimum. I really need the stress to lessen and I'm working on that. Change freaks me out and changing my stresses involves a lot of change.

A post binge run is cathartic. A run because you feel like binging is even more rewarding, but it's easy to cast stones when you run past daffodils in bloom in February. I couldn't handle being snow bound with sub freezing temperatures.

Great job on the run!! I think most of us here will understand you on the binges. It's after 12am here and I'm starting to get a hankering for stuffing everything in my face, which means! It's time for bed! Before I actually act on it! Which is funny cause I was so not hungry a couple hours ago (and ate popcorn).

You know what's silly? Being a drinker who will easily spend $10 on a fancy drink at a bar but will then go to the grocery store and think it's ridiculous to spend $5 on pre-chopped fruit because it is 'too expensive.' I finally gave in today and bought watermelon and pineapple and it is delicious. I looooove fresh pineapple.

That is silly. Even when I was drinking full tilt I hated to buy a drink out as it was too expensive. I've decided to look for bargains, but if it is healthy and I want it then the price is okay. As a large human I can justify it by saying that the cost is offset by no longer having to pay the fat tax. The fat tax being the extra money they charged for the XXL and larger clothes. I suppose the truth for both of is that the cost is offset by being sick less often and having fewer health problems later in life. The healthy tax. Honestly though the health food is cheaper overall. A "party" size bag of potato chips are less than a pound (13.75oz) and $4. A full pound of potatoes is $0.45. Even if you adjust to cost per calorie the potato beats out it's oil and salt drenched brethren by $2.08 a pound. Also, I think "Oh God PLEASE don't eat this all by yourself!" size would be more direct.

Can you imagine eating $4 worth of potatoes, Q? Granted you'd also feel bad about a party size bag of chips, but I have a feeling the potatoes would be worse. I do like to try new things when I'm out, and if a drink is worth it I'll learn to recreate it at home. It's just funny how the mind works. But I'm sure it mostly has to do with the fact that my friends don't invite me out on Thursdays nights for prechopped fruit.

Yesterday's exercise was walking through a nearby park. We didn't go far, but the snow was waist high and we decided to ignore the slight trail that was there and just barrel through uncharted territory. Which sounds a lot more adventurous than it was, we probably walked a mile at most but it was fun and tiring.

It does sound adventurous! And work-out-y, but in a good way. I´ve never had to wade through snow that was higher than my knees so sitting here in my warm apartment it actually does sound fun ;)

That evite would be a winner!

I ate almost a whole 5 pound bag of potatoes one week in south Texas ($2.77) and I was really sick of them. I even had them for breakfast a couple times. I haven't repeated that purchase.

The snow walk sounds like a good workout. A mile in waist deep snow sounds awful to me.

To be clear, I have no problem with you buying your fancy drinks. I just want you to use those purchases to justify buying as much prechopped fruit as you want. Bananas and citrus are the lazy person's fruit. You don't even need to wash them. I eat lots of both.

5 Pounds of potatoes in a week wouldn´t be a problem for me AT ALL, eating them all in one go would be overdoing it though... A pound and a half is the most I can have for one meal :p

I eat bananas most week days, the worst part about those is having to get up to throw the peel in the kitchen at work because I do NOT want to be the girl whose cube smells like banana peel the rest of the day. I 'splurged' on strawberries yesterday, and finished up my pineapple today.... I could get on board with this fruit thing. Whenever I buy big amounts of fruit I ended up wasting half of it anyway, so these small amounts are better.

Does everyone eat loads of potatoes but me?? I could eat mashed potatoes most days if you'd let me, but I'd exceed my recommended allotment for butter pretty darn quickly. I think I need to try roasting them next time. Maybe go crazy and throw a sweet potato in there, too.

I loooove garlic roasted red potatoes ( ). They are a great side dish to a healthy chicken dinner :) I think you can chop russet potatoes up into cubes and get a similar result too, if that's what you mostly have

I´m a potato monster and a pound of spuds only needs about a teaspoon of butter or oil when I make wedges or slices in the oven. It´s all about the seasoning! But then I grew up on a farm with potatoes as main crop ;)

Taboo that recipe looks perfect! Garlic anything looks perfect, actually, haha.

Mystic, I should have clarified that the whole walk wasn't through the crazy deep snow, but enough of it was to make me tired! I kept taking breaks by laying down in the snow. It was magical.

LaMa you grew up on a farm? How cool!

Forgot to mention that I did get my bum to the gym on Monday. I did around 3.25 miles in 38:37. There was a lot of walking. I tried out a new app that gives you coached interval training, and I started out too hard with a workout that was too long. There were inclines up to 8.0 and sprints and I was very not ready for it. I'll try the app again, I loved being told what to do, but I'll pick a shorter one and keep my speed lower to begin with.

Tuesday's workout was non-existent. My only win was walking an extra half mile in the morning. I got off at an earlier bus stop for work because I had a few minutes to spare.

Nice run Oaks! Actually it sounds miserable, but I'm happy it works for you.

LaMa digging potatoes did not increase my enjoyment of them.
