The mind is the enemy

Sounds delish! I might have to go in search for some now. Lol! It should help keep me warm. With windchill we were down to -50*C. I couldn't believe it! Thank god the rest days were well placed. Hahaha!

Today's post, in list form....

1) Making steel cut oats and freezing them in muffin tins is a fantastic plan. Today's breakfast was delicious and easy.

2) I've been eating my homemade muesli a lot, including as an after dinner snack. This is also delicious and easy.

3) I went out on Saturday for football watching (Go Pats!) and was out and about for almost 12 hours. Too much food, too much drink, but fun times.

4) After arriving home from the aforementioned fun times, I decided I needed smores. The boyfriend found me sleeping on the couch at six am with chocolate all over my face. True story.

5) I just got official word that I will be participating in an overnight relay race in September and I am PUMPED.

6) Lunch today is going to be grilled chicken, wheatberries, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Yum.

Number five excites me so much! I've done two relays before (my company organizes teams for us every other year), and it's just such an incredible experience, and a really cool way to bond with my co-workers.

Q, I won't know what my legs are for a while.... My company has a strong showing and two years ago we managed to fill 7 teams. Step 1 is seeing how many teams we can fill, step 2 is organizing us into teams, and step 3 will be to hash out the legs with our teammates. But last time I ran 8.6 + 3.5 + 3.2 (12 people each run three times).

Cate, wheatberries are whole wheat kernels. If you were to mill them they would be turned into whole wheat flour. Or you can cook them and eat them as a side dish or in salads or in a dish that would be eaten with rice. High in fiber, I like to mix them with salad ingredients in lieu of lettuce.

I'm heading into work and I currently have six different containers of food items in my purse. Excessive, no? Since I liked yesterday's list format, let's analyze my purse food, shall we....

1) My homemade muesli, which is oats, chia seeds, pecans, dates, and cinnamon

2) Nonfat Greek yogurt mixed with soy milk and maple syrup to mix with my muesli. I like everything to soak for only a couple of minutes.

3) Leftover pork stir fry with noodles. I forgot to add a little siracha, darn.

4) Six tiny tomatoes. This is an itty bitty amount but I have a history of failing to eat veggies that I bring to work, so I'm starting out small.

5) One fudgy homemade brownie.

6) A strawberry banana smoothie that I made with tofu last week and froze.

Items 1, 2, and 4 are in these cool little containers I discovered recently. They screw together which makes me feel less ridiculous about bringing three at a time. They are small though, the biggest ones are only a half cup.

And that is my food for the work day! Should be plenty, that's for sure.

I do that to my husband for his work lunches.... He usually starts work really early so I pack him breakfast/morning snack/lunch/afternoon snack and his lunches are a huge mass of containers. It's the way to go if you want to be prepared and have some variety!! :D

Relay sounds fun too!

I hate carrying around a stack of containers but it really makes life easier! Also: your food sounds great.

I also really hate the abundance of containers. Especially when I think I've finished all the dishes for the night, only to remember there are six more I forgot about! I bought myself a tiffin thinking that would help me out but it really didn't. Here is a picture of a tiffin:

Of all my purse food for the day, I ate everything but the smoothie. The brownie made my tummy hurt, as rich chocolatey food sometimes does. And dinner is supposed to be pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and broccoli, therefore I need to save my appetite. I'll have the smoothie for breakfast tomorrow.

Running has been meh. I think I've gone once every three days. I went today, so I'm going to plan on hitting up the gym tomorrow to break the recent trend.

Ha, there´s a thing I know from my older clients. They used to be used to bring hot lunch to husbands/dads who didn´t have long enough lunch breaks to come home, now some of the delivery services for the elderly still use them. My stomach is on solidarity strike, so I hope that frees up yours for that lovely piece of pork ;)

Only two containers of food today! Leftover chicken mixed with leftover potatoes, which I am not overly excited about. But I'm lucky enough to have a toaster oven in the office kitchen, so maybe tossing the food in there will be better. And in my other container, tomatoes and cucumbers.

I had to talk myself out of another brownie last night. Kept reminding myself that it falls into the "food I enjoy but that makes me feel crummy" category. Fell asleep briefly on the couch, threw a tantrum when I was woken up to go to bed, laid wide awake in bed for a while, and ended up back on the couch because I couldn't fall sleep. Then I had to talk myself out of the brownie again. I'm tired today, but no brownies were harmed in the making of this post.

Ha - well-done battling that brownie, Oaks, you're a better warrior than I've been recently.

I like the multi-pack idea for lunch to let you have variety. I don't like that none of my Rubbermaid containers are dishwasher-friendly. They can go in the dishwasher, but don't really fit nicely - I'm kind of "one of those guys" when it comes to properly loading a dishwasher.

LJ, I totally agree, I don't put my Rubbermaid stuff in the dishwasher unless I'm really angry with them. The containers inevitably end up upside down and full of water, and they seem to take up an excessive amount of room. I try to use Pyrex or mason jars whenever humanly possible. Sometimes my bag is VERY heavy. But for the little snacks, I have to give in to plastic.

Good job not eating the brownie.
I'm lucky in the fact that the way I like to eat is to eat almost all my cals in the evening. So I usually have one smallish container and my water bottle with me and that's it.

This drives me insane. Then you pull the dish washer rack out and all those upside down containers slop water all over the floor. Glass is the way to go.

My Lock n Lock littles used to do the same - until I got into the habit of putting something (spatula, large spoon) over the top of the entire row. I´m afraid glass will break when it travels with me all day.

Mystic, my boyfriend is like you, he could go all day with so little to eat. He makes big dinners so I kind of end up just eating both a big dinner and lots of snacks, haha.

Cory, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that!!

LaMa, I have definitely broken a glass container before... It slipped out of my hand while I was shaking it over my desk, so then I had to clean up both my smoothie and the shards of glass. But that was an old salsa jar, my mason jars are tough!
