walked for one hour and 5 minutes today. Will eat about 300 more calories before I sleep.

Ate 17 Pretzels (110 Calories) a few fritos (maybe 20 Calories worth) and a slice of pepper jack cheese (70 calories)

Grand total for the day: 1,409 Calories. I think I might be eating too much cheese though.

You're right about the calories. It is not a one size fits all, I totally encourage you to see what your number is. I was burning about 1,300 calories a day from exercise and eating around 1,200 in the beginning so I thought I should have been losing tons of weight. It didn't start happening for me until I uped my food intake. Its funny because around 6-7 years ago my mom had a heart attack and had to see a dietitian to learn new ways of eating. After a few weeks of seeing the lady she told her "Im eating things you said are ok but Im not losing any weight!" The dietitian went over her daily intake and was shocked and said "Well that's because you're not eating ENOUGH!" Lol, it shocked my mom because in our society we are taught to eat less to see better results, when really you should eat more as long as it is the good stuff.

Hope your days is going well! :)

My theory with eating higher calories is that, when you have about 80-100 lbs to lose you want to start high, otherwise, when you plateau where are you going to go if you started ff at the minimum of 1200 when it's not healthy to go below that? Start high, so you have somewhere to go down to when your at a lower weight, a lower BMR and can't spent 4 hours a day in a gym burning calories.

ASome of the BMR models I found seem to be based upon lean body mass so a lower overall weight shouldn't necessarily result in a lower BMR. Last time I managed to drop 60 lbs my lean body mass didn't seem to change all that much so my theoretical BMR also stayed the same....
That's the theory at least.

also something to consider, I often listen to a podcast called fat to fit radio, its two guys who discuss weightloss strategy and issues and they recommend eating for the body you want, so, if I wanted to be 125 lbs I eat enough calories to sustain the BMR plus acticity level of a 125 lbs 63" woman and eventually my body would adjust to being that body. From what I read from listeners comments it seems to work and one of the guys on the podcast was, over the course of two or so years, on a weight loss journey from in the 300's down to the 190's and he did eventually succeed at his goal after a few hiccups.

Thank you old school and feeling gooder for your input guys. If you read my initial post, you'll see a small chart that shows a tiny decrease in calories each week. Starting off at around 1,500, so it is pretty high :) And thank you for the radio suggestion, I will have to look into that!

Hey Success,

Great job on the elliptical and eating plan! I don't know much about the BMR and I was interested so I went to a page I saw a link to and checked it out...I especially like all the calculators and interesting information:

www.*************

.then someplace on that page, I followed another link to an info-mercial...called beyond diet...really interesting video...not sure I'll sign up for that, but from my own experience, the info in the video is correct, and been my experience...I didn't know I was following a "plan"...just some stuff I put together and seems to be based on more science than I knew! Thought I'd share it with you since I saw so much talk about the metabolic rate etc on your posts.

www.beyonddiet.com

I'm not selling anything here...just found the information very interesting...and I may order it for $47. USD just for the additional info...I'll give it the 3 day waiting period and see if I still feel the same!

Happy trails!

Thanks feeling gooder! Not too many...Octavia spencer won for best supporting actress for the help (which I love) clooney won for best actor... best film was the descendants... best tv show, homeland... and the artist won several awards!

I weighed in today..a week later, seems like i'm still at 240 :/ and didn't lose any weight from last week? It's discouraging? I'm starting to wonder if i'm eating too much??? :/

thank you Irish

Hang in there!

You gotta constantly evaluate and modify to find that right combo of diet and exercise. I did weight watchers one time. It was me and about 25 women. Well I was standing in line for the first week's weigh in and the women in front of me were gettin like .6lb loss and 1.2lb loss...well I got an 11 lb loss and they all gave me these hateful looks and one started to cry...of course I didnt last long in that group and I gained it all back.

Find whats gonna work for ya but dont quit!

Thank you Brawny. I've been following a chart that basically gives you the expectations of losing about 2 lbs a week. I guess I was just really expecting it to be that way since I've been following the diet for the most part.

no exercise tonight

I'm completely slipping for the first time since i started my diet (14 days ago)

it started off okay as i grabbed a snack (green grapes and pretzels) roughly 160 calories

then I grabbed some more pretzels and pepper jack cheese

and i grabbed a diet soda...one of my goals was to not drink soda at all...haven't for 15 days but i fell tonight :(

hope tomorrow will be better

I'm still only around 1,200 calories for the day but eh...I think i need to sleep earlier! To curb my cravings.

Hey ya Success. You havn't fell off any wagons from what I can see...so you had a diet drink...just make tomorrow a better day and keep your resolve! You might try to get some bottled water in the fridge to be there when you need something...or just the opposite...I keep a small "boilant" (hot water boiler) on the counter to make it easy to heat up water, then pour a hot cup of green tea (no sugar)...I've found that hot tea is the best appetite suppressant going... so pick your chin up, go for a brisk walk in the morning and keep up your success so far...you're 2 weeks into your new life...savor the moments...you will look back and revel at how far you've come! I know you can do it and I'm proud of you for posting...it takes courage and you've got that in loads!

Sarah

Keep with it, looks like you're doing great from everything I've seen in the diary.

I've been fighting the soda cravings a bit as well lately so we keep a jug of weak crystal light mixed in the fridge for those times that water isn't enough. Wife and I mix a packet meant for a single glass into a jug and fill it with water. We find it adds enough sweetness to be refreshing without taking a large sugar and calorie hit.
