Diagnosis: Metatarsalgia. He ordered an xray but the wait was too long today so I may opt not to do it. I'm going to be gone the next few days. Anyway he said there wasn't enough swelling to really suspect a stress fracture (THANK GOD). Said my 2nd toe is as big as my "big" toe and often that means extra stress on the metatarsals in running longer distances. Told me to get "metatarsal pads" (didn't know there was such thing) and get cozy with the pool and the bike for the next 2 weeks instead of run![]()

I never walk around barefoot and I put over the counter orthotics in my slippers. It's purely proactive but I'd rather do that then get injured.
Question: I have prescription orthotics (made from a cast) and I got them 2 years ago. They aren't good inevitably right? Whats the shelf life on those suckers? Besides them..if I were to go get some "over the counter" orthotics which is the best? I have a high arch, under pronate (supination) and carry a lot of the beating in the balls of my feet.
<big sigh>I guess I need to come to grips with the fact I'm getting "old"er and walking around barefoot-summer or not-just ain't what is used to be. Funny, I actually did the orthotics trick with the slippers yesterday. Great minds think alike. I've either been doing that or wearing my running shoes all over the house.
