Sparrows Experiment

This is our new sweetie Chloe. She is a chocolate lab, only 6 months old and a whole bunch of fun!

Hey, you have a new running partner;)

BTW, congrats on the 1:43 on the half marathon. How many people were there? How did you place overall/in your age group?

Thanks. Yeah I guess she has to be a year old before I can take her running. Developmentally thats the best for them. It'll take that long just to get her to be "normal" on a leash anyway :)

Overall in my age group there were 186. Total in the entire half were over 1500! It was bigger than I thought it would be.

Day 2 of half iron training.

60 min bike flats and hills
swim:
400-last 50 of each 100 is kick
9x100 (easy/build/easy/hard) @ 1:40
200 kick
100 cool

Swim is still feeling funky. My average on those 100's was 125 which is kinda lame. I had a hard time distinguishing between speeds each lap. Total swim was short. It was over quickly.

I hope Chole will run with you. My dog, Clyde, is 5 y/o and this is the 1st year I tried to get him to run with me. When he's on the leash he refuses to run and I wind up literally draging him down the road! lol After 2 weeks I gave up on him and now I take him on walks and run by myself. The funny thing is, he loves to run. Last summer I was on a 4wheeler and he ran right beside me at 45mph!

Wow thats fast! I hope Chloe will run with me too. For now she's a spaz ;)

Ran 5 miles today at a very easy pace for most of it to get the tightness out and let my legs know, just because that was a longer run on Saturday, we're not done yet :) The last 20 min (1.5 miles) was HIIT and it felt great. My plan as of now is to try and keep up my long runs on the weekends. I'm not sure how this will play into iron training via my plan but I'd like to keep the nice little base I have going.

I was supposed to do a 1400yd swim too, but there were too many Masters swimmers to coach and give instruction to, and I felt funny (and selfish) getting in with them.

My daughters 9th birthday and Mothers Day is going to ruin my plan for the weekend regarding my training so I'll need to figure something out. I may do a double tomorrow to make up for some things I may have to miss.

I keep forgetting to post-at last I don't think I posted this... I got my lab results...

and nothing is wrong with me on paper-nothing except....

I have high cholesterol! LOL. I did laugh at the lady when she told me "The doctor just wants you to watch your diet a little more closely". I said "well, I train like a mad woman for athletic events and watch my diet closer than anyone I know! How much more 'watching' can I possibly do?!" I've since learned high cholesterol runs in my dad's side of the family. My biological dad died of cancer when I was 3 so I didn't know that till I checked with my mom. I've then taken that info and googled "athletes and high cholesterol" and found many world class athletes with high cholesterol because of heredity.

The TOTAL number was high. It was like 221 or something. The LDL was 90 and the HDL was everything else. Its not high enough to have to take meds for or anything.

anyway, that in no way explains all the other symptoms I still have so now i have to go make that endoscopy appt. Not sure if i really will.

I'm glad they didn't find anything, even if it would have answered why. :) Maybe your body just needs a little more rest than you give it. Anyway, hopefully things just come around on their own. You work your body very hard!

Katie, your total cholesterol score is a function of three components; LDL (bad), HDL (good) and triglycerides (also bad).

Your score of 221 is a tad high, but your LDL score of 90 is very low! Most docs try to get their non-cardiac patients to have a LDL of less than 100 (less than 70 for cardiac patients like me) and most people are unable to achieve that without statins. You should be very pleased with your LDL. If the total score is high because you have a high HDL, that is also good news. Can you find out what the HDL and triglyceride numbers are? The HDL/LDL should be greater than .3.

The mental testing may require me to be in a straight jacket for counseling.

Not sure if i really will.

I'm not surprised!

:D

oh, and welcome to Iron training.

LOL you're so weird

THIS week at least does not feel like iron training. I'm having to supplement my "plan" with "extra" because otherwise I'd LOOSE fitness. haha. I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune in a few weeks. Ah bring it.

I take glucosamine also. I used to take glutamine and I didn't notice any water weight associated with it but I did feel that i recovered more quickly if I took it within the half hour window with my PWO shake. I just haven't done that lately. I'm not wanting a SHAKE after these workouts, I want REAL food! lol. Some people think glutamine does nothing. I'm not one of those people. I think if you work out hard its a good sup.

I take OsteoBiflex for my glucosamine and I DO notice water weight associated. I think this is why I ditched it last season after I started feeling better. This season I'm just dealing with it. I figure I'm sweating enough to eliminate the unwanted water packing pounds. Plus the benefits outweigh that little side effect.

Today I had to switch up my days and do the reverse "mini tri" that I'm supposed to do on Sunday. I had more time for it today than any other for the rest of the week.

30 run RPE 3-4 (3.5 miles)
60 min bike: I couldn't get out on my bike so I did the "hill" spin class which was much harder than my plan called for. I really burned up my legs and it was great. I figured it couldn't hurt.
30 min swim (2000yds)

All in all this went off without a hitch and I had a nice time. I stayed pretty focused and stayed in the moment. As I was getting showered and dressed I totally got a stiff neck somehow and now I can't turn my head! At least I got through all that before that happened. Its always the lamest things that get me hurt.

I'm supposed to be back at the gym tonight for a big deal mothers day craft my youngest daughter is signed up for (our gym goes all out for stuff like that, its neat) so i plan on knocking off another swim session-the easier one I missed yesterday. Hopefully the neck will ease up by then.

I have my plan printed out each week so I just keep putting checkmarks by the things I've done. The only things left for this week are 3 swim sessions.

Thanks girl...mind sharing the brand of Glutamine you take/took.
Thanks for all your help! Not a whole lot of females on here...we need you!!! :)
