Sparrows Experiment

Hello Sparrow! I have been reading your diary for about a week now! I have to say that you are such an inspiration! As I have struggled with my workouts this week, I will mentally tell myself, Sparrow would just push through this and not wimp out! And I have! So thanks for starting this diary, and know that you are helping people everywhere!

I have kept your page up and have warned my kiddos not to X off this page without saving it to favorites! They're like, "Who's Sparrow???" LOL I'm known as the Dove Lady,(I own a business where I release doves for funerals and weddings), and they wondered if there wasn't a connection! LOL

Keep up the inspiration!

Hi "Dove Lady"!
Just when I feel like I'm whining way too much and questioning myself someone will validate why I'm here. Thank you for your kind words! I really really appreciate your post.

No connection, but that is such a cool business! The only time I saw that done was at my friend's funeral for her premature son :( It was simply beautiful. What a wonderful symbol of peace and hope.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Hobbled to the gym today. Actually I'm doing quite well. The ankle is mending. My OTHER foot is acting funny and tender though. I think I may have done something to IT too when I fell but I haven't noticed because of the attention to the other one.

at any rate I was bound and determined to get some calorie burn today. Whatever that was going to look like.

I did a sort of "cardio rodeo" and went hard on each little segment before moving to the next.

15 min stairs speed intervals level 13
15 min eliptical level 14 (5 min forward/5 min backward etc w/30 sec of each minute in a squat)
15 min bike hill intervals level 15
5 min walk...I wishfully thought I might be able to at least trot for 15 min but I quickly found I can't do that yet. very painful. so I just got off
15 min stairs
15 min eliptical
25 min weights

It felt like a meaningless workout but I was rather sweaty (which doesn't take much) and I kept my heartrate up in the 140-150 range as much as possible. It takes so much to get it to 150 now. I really have to be creative, especially on the machines.

The pool is still down so I'm doing a double spin workout tomorrow. Two of the toughest instructors are back to back :D

My first "tri" is going to be a sprint on June 7. The following day I'll do an olympic relay with 2 other friends. One holds consecutive sub 7 miles so shes the runner, the other is a fellow swimmer and they nominated me the biker. I think we have a good shot at first place. It'll be fun.

80 minutes of heavy cardio is never meaningless...

HR of 140 - 150 is about right for you.

Good luck in the tris!

Thank ya much! I know its not. I'm just used to always having a defined purpose to everything I do. I felt like I was just "playing" this morning with no real direction. Kinda like I used to before all this tri stuff. haha

I woke up with tummy trouble so I went to the gym with no breakfast which is a little problem because I'm tracking my cals and already 300 of them are missing. Put NUUN in my water and did back to back spin classes. First teacher did speed intervals, second did hill intervals. It was a nice combo. Still wasn't hungry after that  but I made myself eat lunch. Just kinda feel junky.

Did you ever find out what was wrong with your tummy?
That's how I was when my gal bladder got all messed up.
So, I was eating a snack 3 times a day, just so my metabolism didn't come to a hault.

nope still haven't.

Thursday I went in for a ton of blood work. They took 11 vials for various things. The newest speculation is an auto-immune disease like Celiac or Crohns disease which will take a week or two to get results from. I asked them to do all they could do before having to do the endoscopy which will be the final diagnosis on anything they find anyway.

My greatest fear with it all is that they DON'T find anything and I don't know how to regulate my issues, especially with such heavy training coming closer. I can be fine for a week or two and then be in pain and fatigued beyond belief the next few weeks. As it stands I'm taking a nap nearly every day just to get through my day. :(

So, the day off from spraining your ankle didn't help the situation at all? I have been reading and was hoping that might end up helping you with the tiredness issue.

well yes, it did. I mean I didn't take a nap that day! Thats a big deal. I can't just take everyday off though ;) Thanks so much for thinking of me Drex!!

30 min spin,
30 min HIIT running: sprint intervals at 6 min pace for 30 sec. It was too short. next time go for a minute. Foot was pretty much fine. A few aches here and there but nothing to slow up over. Where there's a will there's a way.

Thats all.

OMG I actually got bumped to page 2 of the journals!

lol

I'm having another exhausted day. It seems to be about every OTHER day. By my calculations that means I should be "awake" for the half. ha.

Anyway, I did spin again. its been a heavy spin week and I'm missing the pool thats STILL being repaired. I only went because my friend and instructor that I just love had her last day of her class today and I felt like I should be supportive of that. I stayed 45 min and then did 30 on the eliptical and a few weights. Just enough to keep in the game.

I haven't thought a lot about the half this weekend. I don't have expectations and I think its better that way. I haven't mentally gone through any sort of "plan" except to show up and run. I haven't modified my week in any way. Lets see how I do with this strategy ;) Its against my nature but its good to experiment...thus the title of my journal. This is a "nothing" race in the grand scope of it all but sometimes its that "no care" attitude that brings about surprises.

okay, I need to bribe my kids to do something quiet so I can sleep or something :(

Ran 5 at 8:00 pace. It was a push today to do that. Sadly I don't think going much faster than that is going to happen for the half.

My honey took me to lunch on a whim and surprise. It was fabulous

Wasn't sure what to do today but I knew "rest" was not on the schedule. I have to be able to work through the little races. I did my typical Friday "not sure what to do at the gym today" stuff. haha

45 min 5am walk the dog. lol
45 min pilates
2 mi jog
20 min spin

Random, I know. Tomorrow is the half.

Good luck at the 70.3!

thanks gator...I'll stick that one in my back pocket for now-the half ironman is still 3 months away but I'm doing a half marathon tomorrow :) Thanks all the same :D
