Sparrows Experiment

Friday. Dem days are GOOD. We've been where we live for a year today. This is significant why? because since I've been married we've moved once each year! Been married 10 years. No plans on moving!!!

I know I'm not supposed to be associated with my scale...i know this...but I'm still very fond of it. Well, I'm fond of it when it cooperates. Which it doesn't lately. Today was up to 133.4. Ridiculous. However I was reading a post somewhere else of a girl my age and height who over the past 2 months had gained 10 pounds in the process of increasing cals out of starvation mode. So maybe I should be counting my lucky stars. Plus I'd think the 2 months of weights would have to add on SOME muscle so maybe its just that. but still it messes with me. I'm all about "magic numbers" and anything over 130 flips me out.

anyway, the good thing was I woke up starving after my increase yesterday. I actually ate more later at night so I did about 1550. I probably shouldn't eat late at night. that could be my whole issue.

I am going to do some cardio today. The kids' play place at the gym is finished (it was under construction) so they want to go. I'm good with doing some mod exercise today.

I'm also finally getting my hair cut and highlighted. Jeesh its been a LONG time. I don't do "fru fru" things very often so I can't wait

break: 1/2 c oatmeal, 4 egg whites, 1 egg
gym
lunch: 5 c romaine lettuce, 1 c chopped chicken, 2 T olive oil, balsamic vinegar, 1/2 c wild rice
snack: 1 stick mozz cheese, 1 slice ez bread
dinner: 1 scoop whey, 1 c soy
1400 cal

nah thats not average. I don't know many people who have cereal AND eggs. let alone 3 of them :D

Friggin scale

I sometimes have cereal and eggs, but it's more oatmeal and eggs. I also have three of them, scrambled.

Don't worry about the scale. Leave it alone for awhile (like a month or two) and go back and see what it says.

um...was the friend that gained 10 pounds in the process of increasing cals ME ??? lol, because if it isn't then let me just inform you that...it is ! Because I gained 12! pounds not just 10...and now I have maintained that weight..

yeah you ARE lucky to not have gained more than that at first but just to let you know. Alot of it is healthy muscle gain. B/c when you get out of starvation mode your body is ready to get healthy again. Its tired of living from scrawny meal to scrawny meal...it wants to live longer than you want it to ;)

or used to anyway..

just realize that you may gain a bit more weight. And then again you may not. But you are doing so much better at controlling it all than i was. or anyone for that matter .. And you are very mature about the whole thing .

happy Fourth of July everyone who celebrates it here in America!!

hair cut

got my hair cut and done today. I mentioned I never do that. You wanna know why? it took freaking 3 hours of my day away! not that I'm complaining...per se....but when I got home the house was a crazy chaotic zoo and sometimes its just not worth it!....however, today it was :D hahahaha.

I was STARVING today. I mean another day when nothing gets me full. I ended up going over what i posted so who knows what the total was but over 1400. maybe things are looking up in that dept. I think the adding fat part was INGENIOUS on jcp's part. Its soooo much easier just to add a Tbsp of olive oil than eat something else thats 120 cals and add to the bulk of what I'm already having trouble eating.

I did a little bit on the eliptical today. Here is a pic of the new me. My hair was at my shoulderblades before this and it was just getting on my nerves and making me look worn out. this style is much more cush with my personality

ha! Jaymie, no it wasn't you but I didn't know you gained that much at the beginning! but weren't you also coming out of a full blown ed too? So I'm sure you needed that weight. I don't!

I'm not wigging THAT much. just certain times it really gets to me. like when I can't fit into something that used to be fitting normal.

it evens out tho right? please tell me it does. I just don't know why my body isn't leveling off yet or getting used to it by now. Shouldn't my metabolism be getting back to "normal" by now? how long does this take?

Yeah, I hate getting me hair cut because of the time it takes. Your resemblence to your kiddos is even more pronounced with your new cut and color!:)

What sorts of food do you add olive oil to? Like while you're cooking stuff?

hey college girl,

I've been adding olive oil to stir fry or veggies I season. If seasoning is in there then the olive taste isn't as strong. I also make homemade dressing with it for salad. thats the best way. mix it with balsamic and some garlic and parm cheese. I've been adding natural pb to snacks and shakes to up cals and avacados are good too but I haven't gotten any.

It sounds like your metabolism is improving! And everyone is right that it's great that you haven't gained much at all!
Have a good weekend.
Sarah

Today has been as laid back as they come. My grandfather isn't doing well. he is almost 90 and now in hospice. They expect him to go any day. thats been the cloud over all the nice peace in the day...however, it is peaceful, I know where he's going.

I went to the gym and did some great cardio this morning. I love how Saturdays all the weekend warriors come out of their straight-suited caves. :) the atmosphere is fun in the gym on Saturday mornings.

I got a great nap in with my daughter too. Nice excuse huh? "OK peanut, I'll sleep with you if you REALLLLY need me to" hahahaha. 2 hours later :D

Here da day. I'm going out on a "date" later so who knows how botched up this is about to become!

Break: 1 c oatmeal, 1 scoop whey, 1 c organic soy milk
Gym: 1 hour on elipitcal level 12-14
Lunch: 2 sprouted tortillas, 2 T natty butter, 1 T sugar free maple syrup drizzled over the PB (its very good, try it!), 2 stalks celery and romaine lettuce (rolled into the interesting blend in the tortillas.
bite of nonfat frozen yogurt

680 cals so far, thats not so good....but I fell asleep and now my appetite is asleep too! errr thats the part I do hate about naps. they kill my momentum.

You have an amazing attitude towards your grandfather that I admire...I know it's no comparison, but we may have to euthanize my family dog that we've had since I was in pre-K , and you give me lots of strength in that area with your comment.

Anyways, I wish I could borrow your kid or some young counsin of mine as an excuse for my naps...but unfortunately, I have to come up with lesser excuses to gloss over my sleepiness in my mind :) .

I hope you have fun on your date! And is the "natty butter" in your mapley recipe natural peanut butter?

yeah natural PB :) sorry. When I first heard the term a while back I was confused too! I'm sorry about your dog :( thats hard, especially when its a pet you've grown up with :(

Have you ever tried that cashew or almond butter they have? Also, is natural peanut butter the same nutrition-wise as a regular peanut butter?

I've only tried them at restaurants but never gotten any of my own. have you tried them? I know almond butter is pretty good and good for you. Reg pb has a lot of extra garbage stuff in it. sugar being one. plus they hydrogenate the oils which is why it doesn't separate at room temp. That means there is more bad fat in it and your body reacts differently to it (insulin). Reg pb says "peanuts" haha. and sometimes "salt" unless you get unsalted, which is what i do.

Hello everyone happy 4th!

I have been on a mini vacation the past few days. We went north on the coast near the oregon boarder. Its nice and COLD. Its been a great breather. Ya dont' realize how crazy life is until you try and STOP.

I have been trying to stick with diet. I have very little way to exercise here with all we've been doing so I'm trying not to care about that as long as my diet is pretty clean. It is on the whole. there is the occassional bites of ice cream my family is enjoying or ranch on salad or something. 90% of it is like I normally have it and I brought protein powder and oatmeal packets with me for breakfast, lunch has been chicken salads that I wrap up in my LC tortillas and dinners are protein and veg too as much as possible. My cals are down because its hard to be consistent with the schedule. I probably am around 1100 average.

My grandfather died this morning. I thought it would be way harder to hear but so far I'm not reacting much the way I thought I would. i guess that will come later. He's been doing badly for like 3 years now so its not a shocker, and hes almost 90 so what did we expect? but its still hard to lose someone you love so much. he and my nana helped my mom raise me when I was younger after my dad died of cancer so I have very fond, happy memories.

Its all good. Like I said before. I know where he is now and its way better than here!

Anyway, everyone be safe and have fun today!

Hi sparrow ... sorry to hear about your grandfather. My thoughts and prayers are with you. As you said though, he's in a better place. :)
