Skyler's new diary

Who-hoo!!!! Awesome! Yeah!!! You're getting there, girl! Way to go! I'm jumping for joy for you!!! :) Take it easy with cough, its a nasty thing. Glad you got some sleep!

thanks NTL, definitely working on getting better as i just got over that other sickness so sleep is a priority these days!!

thanks NTL. it is CRAZY to think that i lost 24 lbs. whoo!! anyways, not much to report again...last night went out with FH as we were supposed to meet with the cantor who is marrying us (which got him out of work last night) and we got stood up!! how funny is that? geez. so, instead we went out to dinner...ate about 1450 calories. i think i am going to try to zigzag the calories and AVERAGE 1300ish for the week..I dont know. i am confused on the calorie thing as i keep being told to eat more but some days it is hard. The day before I only ate 800 by accident. Geesh. Maybe if i try that zigzag idea, i will keep my body guessing. Totally bummed b/c pilates got cancelled tonight, so hoping to motivate myself to get on the elliptical when i get home!

Sounds like you had fun with FH. Sorry about being stood up, it is funny. ;)
I think your body got used to not eating much and now it is harder to go back. Just make sure you eat nutritious food (like veggies, fruits, protein, etc) and I would say concentrate on eating more often (instead of eating more). I think the reason you keep hearing about upping your calories is to increase your metabolism, and if you make sure that you eat something every 3 hours, you will keep your metabolism going, and also the calories will naturally go up a bit. I'm a proponent of listening to one's body, although at times a person needs to help the body to change.

I think your plan of varying calories from day to day is good, it does help.
Out of Paula's diet I did take one thing which helped me - is that I took that protein powder 5 days a week. It upped my calories by 100, and it did help me to build muscle (I lost inches instead of lbs), more muscle then I think I would have built otherwise, because the strength training exercise amount I did was fairly small. To be honest, from what I've read as far as recommended dose of protein per day goes, I did not need extra protein, because I already was getting the recommended dose, but getting this extra really helped. So with all the exercise you're doing, maybe extra protein will help too?

thanks NTL, yes, the upping of calories IS definitely to help speed my metabolism and yes, i need to work on eating every three hours...something at least! i do drink protein powder when i remember as an afternoon snack with almonds...generally adds about 200 calories per day and i am very conscious to eat lots of protein b/c it definitely helps build muscle.

thanks for the advice.

thanks kate. soooo, i am having a hard time motivating today. it has been a WHILE since i have had a hard time to motivate to exercise. every excuse is running through my head while i know i need to just go upstairs and get on the elliptical. it is like b/c i was on vacation and didnt exercise, you forget so fast how awesome it makes you feel and how satisfied it is when you are done. i just convinced myself to get on it in a few...whoo- writing down helps for sure!

okay. i did it. it wasn't so much fun, well it was okaya & i do feel great after now that i exercised, got some stress relief, no guilt, burned some calories and phew! that was the hardest it has been in a while to NOT lie on the couch instead. ;) i did 45 minutes on "hike" on the elliptical. calories today were low today - only about 750 calories but i just am not hungry today. i think i am doing this zigzag diet thing w/o even paying attention. that is kind of cool if it sticks.

i did about 800 on monday/tuesday/thursday
about 1500 wednesday
soi should do 2 days of 1200
and another 1500 day (this weekend shouldnt be so hard)

technically it said to do 3 days of 1200 and 2 days of 1000 and 2 days of 1500 -- but i dont know if i can keep track of all that mumbojumbo.

HOORAY!!!! I lost another 1/2 pound. I am beyond excited!! Whoo-hoo!! Crazy for me to look at MY OWN ticker now and see my goal so close. What an awesome feeling. AND, it is friday and cinco de mayo!! :) Fun Fun Fun!!!! it is kind of crazy b/c i remember CLEARLY when i started this journey thinking 'wow, this is going to take MONTHS as i only lose 3 lbs/month and need to lose 30....10 months!! YIKES.' Guess what?!?!! It has actually gone by pretty fast. Amazing how time moves. Thanks to yall.

not done yet....getting into those 120's, no stopping me now!!

Whoo-hoo!!! Awesome!!!
First of all, congrats on making yourself exercise. I KNOW how hard it is sometimes to do it, especially after a break, but I'm glad you did it!!!
Second, congrats on ANOTHER 1/2 lb loss!!! Its great how things are moving!!! Yeah!

I know, when you're starting out, time seems to stand still, but once you get into this stuff - boy, time does fly! And body changes are slow, but when you look back they seem pretty amazing, don't they?

Congrats, I know you're going to rule the 20's soon!!!! Yeah!!!

Wooooooooooohooooooooooooooo You Sre So Close Lecks Rock That Goal In Girlfriend I New You Could Do This I Am So So So Proud Of You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

look at u, just inching towards your goal!!! we are as proud of u as YOU are! You WILL rule those twenties, and by golly, so will I soon enuff...I can hardly wait! Im on your tail!:p

kate, you sure are!!!! :D

weekend was okay. friday night turned into crazy cinco de mayo party so WAY too much alcohol so calories came in around 1450 for Friday. Saturday, I finally got the nerve and went shopping as all my pants were ridiculously big (HOORAY!!) and bought all new clothes. I am a size smaller on bottom and top!! Totally psyched about that. Feels good to be in clothes that actually fit well. Sunday we went to a red sox game & out to dinner for FH's bday so that was a rough one...I averaged 1500 calories for the past 3 days. Back to 1200 for a few along with WATER that I have been lagging on. Also woke up yesterday with a terrible cold/cough/sore throat nightmare so hopefully that will shake itself soon as well!!

I cant believe that I am down to 6 weeks for my wedding. Another dress fitting on Wednesday evening. Whoo! Otherwise, pretty organized and waiting for reply cards and focusing on exercising and keeping on track ;). No time for plateau-ing these days!!

Hope everyone is well,
S

Good job, Skyler! It is a wonderful feeling of being able to get into clothes 1 size smaller! Whoo-hoo!!! I can't wait for that myself!

I think i did ok on the weekend, especially since you tend to fluctuate a lot in calories from day to day.

Hope you feel better soon. Take it easy on yourself!

thanks guys......i am officially sick again. oops. doesnt help with the cardio if you cant breathe. So, i went to sleep at 7.30pm last night. For real. Crazy. Still sick but hopefully willl shake this soon. Very frustrating. Anyways, lots of liquids, chicken soup and rest for me until further notice...maybe some light strength training if I can do it tonight. Calories were 1120 yesterday so that is good. Another dress fittting set for Wednesday evening...nervous about that, but it should be fine! I just had a NIGHTMARE experience for my bro's wedding 9 months ago for the bridesmaid dress...similar thing...it was HUGE (why they do that i dont know) and then she took it in TOO Much and it turned into a giant mess...hoping i wont have issues like that with my own wedding gown! you woudnt think so...

anyways, not much to report....need to get to the grocery store badly as we are running out of food! we all know that gets us in trouble..

have a good one!!

Skyler, take care of that cold. Sounds like you have a good plan on that. Sometimes exercise can make you feel better, and other times it will make you feel worse and delay recovery. So use your best judgement on whether to exercise or not! ;) Sounds like you're too sick to do it anyway.
Well, you know, if the dress was taken in too much, you'll just have to loose more weight for your wedding! LOL! :) I think you probably are even smaller then your last fitting, so I think that you don't have anything to be worried about.

Rest up!

Yes, usually exercise makes me feel better IF i can get on the machines. I have been very tired and worn out. So, just limiting my calories some and having soup and water and meds and trying to kick this soon!!

calories were only at 1000 yesterday. not sure if that is a problem. i just was NOT hungry at all. will try for 1200 today at least....

question re: water if anybody knows...i understand that your body retains water if you have too much salt, alcohol, etc....but what if you mess up for a few days and dont drink as much as you should (or as you have been), does your body try to hold onto/store that water as well making the scale look heavier than you are OR am i totally off base here?? thanks....

this is from bodyandfitness.com - figured i'd share since i think this answers my question....bottom line - DRINK UP!!

Weight Loss

The amount of water you drink is going to play a key role in water retention. Water not only is essential in dissolving and transporting nutrients such as oxygen and minerals to the body but can also help in the digestion, assimilation, metabolism, elimination, and the waste removal in the body. Water is also necessary with weight loss. Water intake helps in flushing out toxins from the fat cells, which are stored in fat tissue and released into the bloodstream. In order to burn fat cells, the fat cells first will have to be free of excess water and toxins. The body will hold on to excess water for survival if adequate amounts of water is not supplied. Water is a critical nutrient for many bodily processes. When you are dehydrated, your body excretes less water, and bloating can set in. For optimum health, the National Research Council recommends an intake of 12 cups of water a day for men and 9 cups a day for women. Remember: In with the good, out with the bad.
