Skyler's new diary

Hey Sky. How is your weekend??? Hope you had a good one. :D did you drink your water???? Make sure that you do....I'm sure that our bodies really really need the extra water from the heat wave going on everywhere. Take care...

I would up your calories a little, and not eat the same amount every day. I would try and average about 2000 cal, and eat like 1500 one day, and then maybe 2250 the next 2, and then 2500 and then 1750 the next 2 days...something like that. I would say you are heading into starvation mode at only 1500-1600 a day.

thank you FatGuyTri -- the last thing i need is starvation mode again...i'm going to take your advice. appreciate it.

hey jodee- weekend was great. swam a lot and enjoyed the beautiful weather. drinking plenty of water w/ the heat wave, yes - it feelows like it doesnt stop - not a bad thing ;).

weekend food was good overall - few cocktails but nothing major and some good quality family time. calories were 1570/1600/1690 for fri/sat/sun respectfully.

i am ready to work hard this week to try and break this STUPID PAIN IN THE REAR PLATEAU!!!

Hang in there. Seriously have a cheat meal. whatever food you have been missing, eat it. Then get right back on the diet

thanks. i am beyond frustrated today. i am coming up on a month of the same weight. BLUGH!!!! :(

I have increased my cardio, increased my exercise, cycled my calories, increased my water intake - i just dont get it....no "plateau buster" is working....i have increased my weights and i have totally changed up my exercise routine. why wont the scale budge?

i do cheat now and again....for instance thsi weekend, i had a couple rum punches on the beach & pretzels - cheating....and still nothing. i just dont know what i am doign wrong and i want to scream and cause a temper tantrum but unfortunately, i am not 3.

figured the patience had to run out at some point - i am there.

yesterday was bad - as i only got in 1400 calories, but i burned w/ pilates class 250.

maybe i should start doing the calories in - calories out and get a "net" like some do and make sure that "net" is 1500 vs. having calories IN = 1500???? i use sparkpeople and it breaks it down by your activity level and if i burn 3000 calories/week (which i do) it says to eat from 1450-1750/day....now i'm questioning if that is enough?

then i go to :

and it says based on age/weight/5 x a week of intense exercise -

Maintenance: 2133 Calories/day
Fat Loss: 1706 Calories/day
Extreme Fat Loss: 1280 Calories/day

I guess I combine the two and eat at the high end of spark people's range?....which i have been doing for 3 weeks and it isnt letting loose of any fat cells....rarrrrr. :(

anybody have a clue/help?? UP THE CALORIES MORE???

Hi, Skyler,
I'm back from vacation. Sounds like you are on a very frustrating period right now. I'm sorry to hear that!
I think its a good idea to look at "net" calories. I'd say aim for deficit of about 500 per day. So if you burn 2200 per day, eat 1700, especially if you've upped your strength and exercise routine. Now your body needs more fuel to build muscles and strength.

They give coma patients about 1700-1900 calories a day. That is just to keep up essential organ function. I would say eat at least that much, and make sure a large part of what you eat is protein. Also remember, that you muscles are probably storing water. The scale is only one way to measure progress. How do your clothes fit? Do you feel better?

my clothes fit fine, but i have measured and my arms/legs have shrunk *YEAH* but nothing else....

literally havent felt or seen anychanges in a month.

i figured out through a spreadhseet that NET calories (intake-exercise output), i am averaging only 1300 calories -- that coudl put me in starvation mode, right, fatguytri???

fatguytri -i totally appreciate your help. you seem very knowledgeable and it is great!!

Probably. Bodies are smart, the will adapt. You just have to always change up what you are doing.

Try taking some green tea supplements. Drinking the tea doesnt work as well. Go to walmart or something and get green tea capsules. They have echc (i htink thats right) and it helps speed the metabolism. It has always helped me. I just started taking them again this week and have lost 5 pounds so far this week...so maybe they have some dieretic effects too?

Thanks Fatguytri! I will look into the grean tea supplements for sure. You are not the first to mention them - just hadnt heard if they truly worked but 5 lbs - whoo - that is awesome - worth a shot!! :)

OKAY, so are we ready for this story - after yall have been beyond helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i talked to my nutritionist yesterday and she was a total downer - telling me that i 've been doing everything right and she didnt know why i wasnt losing..even came back to "are you taking meds?" (i always feel they ask you that when you are at a dead end or they have nothing to add). Regardless, i went home yesterday kind of bummed and lost...knowing that any other plateaus (and there have been a lot!!), i just stick with what i am doing and eventually something has got to give...so i am thinking last night - what i should do? break? stick with it? change what? (b/c obviously change is necessary).

What I did change recently (past 2 weeks) is adding exercise in the morning - yeah, those wonderful 5am wakeups (blugh!!) as i usually exercise after work. Anyways, I decided a vacation (which was recommended to take a break - a week off of counting calories/exercising,etc) isnt likely at this point as I'll eat pizza and drink beer for a week and feel bloated and disgusting....sooooooooo, last night, i decided to just keep doing what i am doing - eating 1500-1600 calories, burning about 3000 a week and continue my heavy lifting b/c ideally i want to be muscle not fat and not lose any muscle i've worked hard to gain......

long story short - i weighed in this morning and i am down 1 pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know 1 lb sounds so minimal and nothing but after a month of the same weight - wow, was i excited. :D

thank you all so much for helping me - apparently these last 15 (excuse me now 14 ), are going to be a long hard persistence struggle...i'm up for the challenge - no quitting...

healthier by the day............regardless of what the machines/scales, etc say!!!

now, i just have to hope and hope and hope that i am now not stuck at current new weight and it doesnt take another month to lose 1 lb

Whoo-hooo!!!! Yeah!!! 1 one lb is gone!!! I'm doing a little dance for you! That's great!

Yes, unfortunately, the last few extra lbs take forever to loose, but we can do it together! We have to be committed for a long haul. I just know that eventually they will fall off, b/c if we stick to it, they have no other choice!

I don't remember if I asked you before whether you had your thiroid checked, or other conditions that may make you more likely to plateau. If you rule out all the possible medical conditions, then your body is just super adjustible to the amount of food/work. It sounds that whatever you did the last few weeks worked, so hopefully you can keep doing that, and the lbs will melt away! :)

fatguytri - are you a red sox fan????????????????????????????????? where are you located?

it is august - you probably know the drill - everyone is on the DL, trying to get back at it - at least the new young guys are doing ok but honestly, we need some guys back from the injury list....esp. so pitchers....and coco to step up and get some action going as well! ;)

Love the red sox. Only have been a fan for about 5-6 years though. Just in time for the World Series though. Also just in time for every fratboy in America to wear a red sox hat, and at the same time not know who Jonathan Papelbon is.

I am from Indiana, so a long way from MA.

ahhh, good timing fatguytri, i've been a fan since before birth ;). we are pretty used to the flailing of the sox come august but we'll see what these young new guys can pull out for us in the coming weeks. Love the sox fans (even if they are bandwagon - out of towners!!! :p )

I was slightly prebandwagon I think. I was there for the Mo Vaugh years. The painful Mo Vaughn years.
