Skyler's new diary

Just and idea of what might help break that pleateau that a friend of mine did! She started tkaing the weight smart multivitamin and she got out of her plateau may be worth a try !

thanks Red! funny i just bot this fat burner that i used before to get out of a plateau = that stuff is expensive but i just got pd so i went for it....hopefully that will help me along. if that doesnt work, i'll try the weight smart vitamin - hadnt heard of it before! THANKS!!

I just thought of something. I was using Xenergy to greak my plateau and it worked for me. I was stuck at 148 forever it seemed. Once I was over that, then it's been weight loss heaven from then on. But I will definatly check out the stuff that Red mentioned too because I know I will plateau again. Not sure when but its inevitable.

your welcome and good luck them fat burners may do the trick ya just have to mess with your body chemically sometime to get it moving!

its good stuff has green tea and some other things in it and she swears buy it and it has worked for her she plateaued for months and after she started that it seems like she is shrinking and no stooping her and its a plus the vitamins and minerals we need

I didn't think that those things actually worked. But I guess if you add it to your regualr weight loss program it would probably give you the little boot you need.

I don't understand why our bodies feel the need to plateau. It can be so frustrating.

Yeah, I'm not totally sure. The science behind it is uncertain but it is worth a shot as I HATE plateaus. & I have no clue why our bodies have to do that! it is sooooooooooooo frustrating!

where is my weight loss heaven?? my goodness. weighed in today and nada lost and this week has been "ideal". 1500ish calories every day. a workout everyday including cardio and weights on alternating days and nothing. hmm. makes you wonder. but, i'm sticking to it bc i know otherwise, i'll just grow bigger and in the opposite direction soooooooooo frustrated, annoyed, drinking water, and sweaty, i sit here and hope that these fat cells will shrink.

skyler, you are doing all the right things - once the plateau breaks, you'll be able to see all the benefits from this week!

You are doing terrific, and the numbers WILL show!

I hope you break this plateau soon - maybe once TOM has officially left the building?

Plateaus typically are teh result of a thyroid trying to "help" your body from starving. The body is trained for survival, and if the body thinks there is a famine going on, it will try and hold onto all the weight it can. Basically, if you don't eat enough, or the same amount of low calories you end up plateauing. The best, and most fun, way to break a plateau is have a cheat meal, or even a cheat day. You body chemistry gets thrown all out of wack that day, and the result is your thyroid has the "reset" button hit. I actually have had a cheat day where I weighed less that night then I did in the morning. The other thing to consider is this: If you have increased your excercise levels, your body is damaging itself (natural, healthy damage) and those areas of breakdown are holding water. This can keep you from seeing results on the scale. I started lifting a lot lately, and have put on a few pounds, however, my BF has dropped 10 pts.

You are doing so good though! Keep it up!

thanks M2M - I can only help when TOM gets OUT maybe something will show with all my hard work.

FatGuyTRi - thanks so much for stopping by....and for your advice. you sound knowledgable. i have been working my butt off thsi week with exercise so maybe it is how you say the natural, healthy damage of increased exercise and those areas of breakdown are holding water. maybe so. a while back (after i lost about 15 lbs), i plateau-ed (common in my world) and it was exactly from not eating enough & exercising a lot. my muscles are sore but in a good way so i dont know. i have been drinking at least 90 oz of water a day though so i thought htat would help the muscle repair I really enjoy exercise, weights, cardio, walking, whatever....and i was eating a strict 1200 calories diet & was prob. putting my body in a somewhat starvation mode, now i dont know how long it takes to get out of one if i was in fact in one but, i was told by a nutritionist to boost it up to 1500 calories (this has been about 2 1/2 weeks) and i have seen no progress. it is frustrating. better than gaining, yes, but ugh.

truthfully i am confused as to how many calories to take in with the amount of exercise i am doing. i obviously dont want my body to starve or think it is and i feel full always, but i dont know what is up.
i've heard about cheat days...but how??? over calorie, under exercise for a day????

any help/advice is really appreciated (as i am slightly losing it today ;) )

Here is a good calculator

It will tell you what you need. If it comes out that you should average say, 2000 then do this. One day eat 1750, then the next day eat 2250, then eat 1500 and then 2500 or whatever pattern you want, as long as your average comes out to what you need. This helps to keep your body from plateauing.

Cheat day= no rules. Eat what you want, excercise as little as you want. Seriously eat 3500 calories if you want. If you have been craving pizza, go get some. Ice cream, cookies, whatever. Just make sure it only lasts one day, and oyu get right back into your routine.

THIS IS WHAT IT CAME TO BE:

Resting (basal) metabolic rate: 1389 calories per day
Typical daily activities: 660 calories per day
Calories burned from Running: 373 per day
Calories burned from Other: 214 per day

Total calories burned: 2638 per day
Note: 3500 calories = 1 pound weight loss

NOW WHAT?? (AND THANKS AGAIN!!)

Ok, the 2600 calories is to maintain your weight based on your size and activity. 3500 calories makes a pounds. If your goal is 2 pounds a week, then that is 7000 calories extra you need to burn, or 1000 calories a day. So, if you subtract 1000 from the 2600 you need to maintain your weight, then 1600 calories is what you should eat. So average 1600 a day, but vary it. So like 1300 one day, 1900 the next....etc. However, I would suggest not going under about 1400-1500 calories a day. At your size losing 2 pounds a week would almost be unrealists. In order for you to lose a pound a week, it owuld be 2100 calories a day....(3500 calories in a week, divided by 7 = 500 calories a day need to burn, subract that from the 2600 you need).

Skyler, have you tried going onto the fitday website? It has places to enter the food that you eat, the exercise that you do and even tells you how many calories you're burning off in a day....so you can truly see if you are burning them. I love it!

I also see that you are really really close to your goal weight. I hear that the less you weigh the harder it is to get off those stubborn last pounds....maybe your body's just being stubborn right now---but I know that you'll be persistent and that you'll get yourself to your goal weight! You can do it!

*squishy hugs*

thanks Katie. yes, i've used fitday but i actually switched over to sparkpeople.com as i think the estimates on calories seem to be more "right".
thanks for your kind words and i appreciate your support.

the weight is sure being stubborn!
