Petals diary

Lama grapes are lovely from the freezer you can eat them frozen . I don’t with my sensitive teeth but I have done .
I will just defrost them and have in fruit salad .

Or champagne Amy !! Amy I’m literally hovering near the 2 stone loss . A little push will get me there !

Puussshhh.... puuussshhhh..... I'm pushing with you! :D

I'm about a pound away from my own Major Goal - notice I don't say end point! And when I get there, it won't be champagne, but it will be prosecco!

Hey Petal, I know losing that last pound must be hard, but I have confidence in you, you will do it!

I understand the grapes thing, I have to really watch portion creep. When I get worried I go back to weighing and counting more carefully, and writing everything down really helps. I know we are in different places, you came in needing to lose 2 stone, and you are practically there. I came in needing to lose 11+ stone, and though I have lost more pounds than you have I am still a long ways from goal. It helps me to watch you, I am hoping one day to have your struggles, seeing how you manage it is good for me.

I am appreciating your education on Irish food.
The traditional Irish food is nice and full of butter so not great for the waistline. It was fine back when people only ate their 3 meals and were a lot more active . They walked and cycled everywhere. Oh yeah fried cabbage is another favourite.
Interesting, I had not thought about it, but you are right in my experience people used to eat only 3 meals a day. Growing up that was what my family did, snacks outside of meal time were rare. That has changed, probably the result of lifestyle changes combined with the much more available range of snack foods.

I can see that Irish food is rich, like you say a good diet for hard working people. That is kind of like the local cuisine we have here in Utah, but ours is more German/Scandinavian influenced. Like yours lots of potatoes, funeral potatoes is a favorite Utah dish (10 Funeral Potatoes Recipes to Die For | LDS Living ), not just for funerals. My family were Louisiana rice farmers, I grew up eating lots of rice, not potatoes so much. Potatoes are also called spuds here. I live just 15 miles or so from Idaho, they claim to be the potato state.

I think potatoes originated in Peru . We got them thanks to sir Walter Raleigh. They were a staple of the Irish diet for many centuries. Then the blight hit in the 1800s and we had the great famine . That’s why there are so many Irish people scattered all over the world as huge emigration took place then ( although many died at sea ) and emigration continued from that point on.
Rob those funeral spuds look unreal . A bit like what we might call garlicky potatoes . Interesting that some have cornflakes . I cook chicken in cornflakes sometimes . It’s nice .

Rob I actually have more weight to lose . I just need to decide for me what that is going to be. I was thinking another 10lb but I think I might aim for a stone . But it will be mainly wait see what I feel is maintainable and what I feel happy with . I will make my own decision. The 2 stone though was a major target .

I had to do some calcs there on your weights . So if I’m right you have lost an amazing 37per cent of your weight loss goal and now less than 100 lbs to go . And in 5 months . That’s superb . You should be so so proud of yourself. I’m proud of you .

One of my favourite lyrics is from The Beatles song, 'I'm So Tired', when John Lennon sings -

And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid git

He brought the potatoes of course but he also brought tobacco. The bastard!

We call potatoes spuds too. I love the way you are relaxed about working out what weight you want to get to. It should be about what you are happy with (so long as it's not a too low unhealthy weight). You are a smart cookie :)

He he Cate reading what weights some people aim for I kind of worry I'm aiming to not lose enough but I know when I feel good so I'll go with that.

I think you have a great attitude about weight loss Petal. It helps me seeing how even keel you are about things!

I am I think sensible about something's. Thanks for the nice comments.

Right the thing I do need to tackle is walking. I know my life is jam packed right now but I just need to carve out that 30 mins and get back to my happy walking zone. LaMa gave me good advice last week so I need now to bite the bullet . Not sure why I'm finding it so hard. Tiredness maybe . Anyway hopefully I'll report back here later with a walking result .

There is some nice symmetry in our posts today. I like the idea of sharing the COMMIT challenge with someone else. Just based on how I felt yesterday, the tiredness will lift from doing the walks. Let's do it!

Em I felt that symmetry too .

Yes Cate left foot right foot . It’s getting out the door that’s a good start. Lama yes I need to build it in so it’s a routine part of day .
Wednesday will be the hardest day to fit it in so maybe I may need to accept that .

Anyway I did a lovely walk . I stuck on a wash before I left which was a 40 min wash and it was done when I got back . I think I did about 45 mins . Also I listened to my audio book and I was enjoying it so much I didn’t want to stop but I did and will keep that specifically for walking now maybe .

Beautiful day here too which helps .
