On my way to 63kgs

Is it just my British vocabulary that finds "deep throating a party horn" a little...out there?!?!

lol I have no idea what's going on over here! Sounds like a silly party of some sort! lol Hope you're doing well Ecky! How is the group fitness plan going? Is the weather interfering with the walks? It has gotten quite chilly over here! Do you know Spanish by the way? Or do you guys live in an area w/ other English citizens in that part of Spain? Just wondering! Have a good night! Aren't you glad it's almost Friday?! =)

We've started off just walking until the girls start to get fit again. We've walked for nearly 2 hours everyday this week but have hardly noticed it as it has been non-stop chatting and laughing. The weather is great at the moment. Really sunny today so we were hot even in t shirts. We do live an area with plenty of brits but I speak fluent Spanish. My husband is Belgian but has lived here since he was 11 and when I met him he spoke his native french and spanish and I spoke english and a bit of school french so I had to learn to speak spanish quickly so that we could communicate.:D

I'm off for another weekend away with hubby tomorrow.
Can't wait as I have had a stressful week with my dad. My sister had an awful time with him last time I went away so I'm hoping she doesn't have such a hard time this time. They have given my dad new medication for Alzeimers but it seems to have made him much worse. My sister came to visit yesterday as she does most days and when she left he asked me who she was and he's been totally lost just trying to find his way round the house. We need to persevere with the medication a bit longer as it's supposed to be the best but it makes him hard to manage and a bit aggressive which is very out of character.
If I don't get time to visit the forums before we go I'll see you all on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend xx

Sorry to hear your dad's not going so well. We had an elderly couple for neighbors a while back and he got violent with the meds they tried to use to control his alzeimers. Their children thought it would be a good idea to have a bathroom installed on the 2nd floor of their house so that if he got that way she could lock him in upstairs to protect herself until help came. But he ended up getting very angry and started a fire in the new bathroom and half burned their house down. It was such a sad thing to see because they were such a sweet couple together. She lives in town now in the senior home and misses him terribly because they had to put him in a nursing home with more nursing staff due to health issues.

Hope your weekend away with hubby is as wonderful as your last one! I'm having a weekend alone with hubby this weekend too! So excited!

Enjoy!

Hey Ecky

Sounds like you deserve a nice weekend off. I hope your sister copes ok too. It sounds like a difficult situations with your dad. I guess you have to take each day as it comes.

Have fun :)

Anna

Hey Ecky! I'm so proud of you for knowing the language! So many ppl living in foreign countries don't bother to learn the language! Oh, are you able to keep your heart rate up when walking w/ the ladies? Just wanted to double check that you guys are power walking or something of the sort...Sorry to hear about your dad. Is he in the early stages of Alzheimer's? Does he do crossword puzzles or anything like that? I heard making a memory book helps these individuals also. You can make an album w/ labels w/ his name, siblings, children, etc. and put pictures in there for him to practice (might help his memory). Also, I learned that curry helps prevent Alzheimer's. Might not be helpful now, but maybe can slow the process? Is he living w/ you guys right now? Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hey there lady! So what, I miss a couple days and we deep throat party horns, fist mouths (fall in love... dear god...) and generally have a minimum of an "R" rating on your journal too...

I am sorry to hear about your dad and hope that everyone can cope. I'm wishing good thoughts your way.

Well so much for my weekend away it ended up a crap weekend.
Firstly I was up 8 times to dad on Friday night as he kept thinking that it was daytime. One time he got up he fell and got a huge bump and graze on his head and he wet his pyjamas twice.
Then I woke up Saturday morning in pain with an abscess on my tooth went to the bathroom and felt dizzy so just got back to bed in time not to faint. I called my daughter to watch my dad and slept all morning. I woke up and went to get myself a drink and the next thing I knew I woke up looking at the kichen ceiling. I'd just passed out without warning.
My sister came and took me to the hospital as I was very dizzy and disorientated and still in a lot of pain. They took me straight in and I was 5 hours getting blood tests, electrocardiograms etc and on 3 diferent drips. My blood pressure had also dropped really low. It turns out it was all caused by a huge infection in my gum and by the time I left I was starting to feel much better.
I asked the Dr if I could still go away if I promised to rest but she said that she was only letting me go home at all as I lived so close to the hospital and could get there quickly if I had a relapse.
I woke up this morning with a face that looked as if it had been punched it was so swollen, a really sore hip which I must have hurt when I fell but luckily no tooth pain. Later on I touched a mouldy potato which brought me up in an allergic reaction with huge itchy welts all up my arm.
I'm so dissapointed about my 2 nights away. We should now be starting our second night :(. I think that this is the last week that they will have cheap deals until next April as most hotels are closed now.
The family have been plying me with chocolate today:eek: and I ate it as I hardly ate anything yesterday and I have missed out on 2 buffet dinners and 2 buffet breakfast that I would have eaten at the hotel. My family were all worried to death as they thought that I'd had a heart attack as I was so grey looking and they weren't given any information for 3 hours until I insisted that they let somebody in to see me as I knew they would be worried.
Oh well I got to see Matt singing in X factor last night. :) Do any of you engish watch it?
I hope that you all had a better weekend than me :D

Oh boy! So sorry to hear about your dad and about your crappy weekend. I can't believe you passed out from the infection... crazy! Well, hopefully you will get a relaxing weekend sometime soon. Hope your tooth feels better soon.

Poor Eycky! That sounds just horrible! I'm sorry you had such a dissapointing, lousy weekend. Are you at least feeling better?

Hope you still get a chance to have a weekend away - we all need those once in a while!

Sorry to hear about everythign that happened - sounds truly awful, particularly as youv'e missed your weekend away :(

However, at least you are getting better - infections like that can be truly nasty things.

Feeling much better although my face is so swollen that my daughter says I look like popeye :) Thank you all for your nice words. I've had a look at the cheap deal hotels and there is one which is only a 20 minute drive from where we live. My husband thought it was a silly idea to go so close to home until I pointed out that the whole point of it was to relax away from home and to walk. It has a huge bay which would take hours to walk from one end to the other and we never go there to walk so really it would be perfect.
Dad has slept though the night for 12 hours for the last couple of nights. I stopped giving him his new medication and put him back on the old one and he is much calmer and back to being a sweet little old man. :)

Sorry I didn't answer you before. There are so many people here that have lived here for 10 or 20 years that don't speak a word of Spanish and then get annoyed if peole don't understand them or make a fuss if they need to take translators with them. I used to go and translate a lot for people but I'll only do it now if they haven't been here for long enough to learn the language or if they are very old.
My dad has been living with us for a year now. I haven't actually been told that he has Alzeimers but the latest medicines he has been given have been for Alzeimers but it might just be senile dementia although I don't really know the difference. That sounds a great idea about making cards for my dad with pictures on them. I often ask him questions about every day things but it would be much better with the pictures. I think that childrens picture books might help. He really can't do anything for himself without me telling him exactly what to do every singe time. Often he can't even find his way around the house and if he walks into his bedroom by mistake while looking for the bathroom he will automatically start to get undressed ready for bed. In the morning when I put his pills, breakfast and drink down in front of him he doesn't know what to do with them so I have to explain it to him everytime. We're lucky that generally he is very sweet and good tempered except for recently with the new medication so although it gives me a bit of a restrictive lifesyle it isn't too much work at the moment and my family are great about making sure that I get out and about.
About walking with my friends. They are all quite a bit younger than me, one of them being the same age as my son so we walk fast. Last week because they were out of condition after a summer without exercise we walked slower than normal but this week I plan on really making them go faster :) and then the week after we will start to work out on my terrace, running up and down stairs, weights, exercise videos, the Wii fit, resistance bands etc etc. There is always one of us (usually me) that bullies the others into exercising when they try and convince each other that it would be a lot more fun to just sit down and drink tea and chat.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, ecky. I know I do care work for a job but I know how distressed I get when I see some of my kids like that, let alone a family member. Glad to hear he's been sleeping better and being a sweetheart again.

Glad you're feeling better but take it easy for a while, okay!!

lol Like the bit about u being a bully Ecky!! I can just picture it now...ha ha Just kidding! Good for you! Glad your dad is doing better...I guess it really was the medicine's fault. Hope all the stress is not getting to your family! Best of luck! Keeping my fingers crossed!! =)

I find it amazing that one's medication can so affect their personality. Makes me wonder sometimes if someday they will invent a pill to make a person outgoing instead of shy, or a confident leader instead of push over or doormat to others. You see all these ads and junk mail for pills to make this or that bigger or better, why not a pill to make someone grow a spine?

Maybe I can get a pill that makes me hate chocolate?

Still not feeling great so will come in and catch up on everybodies diaries as soon as I have more energy. Hope everybody is well xxx
