Omega's journey

LOL! Your H wouldn't dare trade you in for anyone else! He loves you far too much. :)

Grocery shopping is done, and fish is bought. I got just over 2lbs of salmon and catfish and 4 large cod fillets. The mahi mahi was huge--about 2ft long. There were about 3lbs of it, so I passed. As it is, I think we'll be sick of fish before the end of the week. :D My gran lives just around the corner from where we're dog sitting, so I might have her over for dinner a couple of times this week to help eat the fish. :biggrinjester:

I hope we don't miss each other if we go in June. :(

Hi Kimberly

I think that people will get a surprise when they see me looking slimmer - especially if I lose quite a bit more weight as I plan on doing. I am pretty sure that my friends will recognise me - but people that you see around the village may not be so sure.

I am sure that the fish will go down well with you both and your grandmother. It is amazing how a few low weights / new lows tend to make food more appealing in case it happens again.

I do hope that we dont miss each other. The first three weeks of June is when hubby gets his holiday - so that is the time when we might be away. You know that I have been campaigning for a Greek trip for ages.

Take care

Margaret

Congratulations on back to your new low Margaret! :) It's awesome. The 150's club is coming around the corner for you. :D

I'm sure your Greek friends will be shocked when they next see you--especially as by June you'll have lost even more weight--and should be quite close to your goal.

If we do go in June, It will be towards the end of it, so we should be able to meet up. My H has to work until mid-June, and Wimbledon doesn't begin until the last week of it.

Thanks for visiting.

Shannon

I must admit I was pleased to get back to my low weight. A new low feels just round the corner. I am wondering what my weight will be when I get back from my walk later this morning. Fingers crossed!

Edit
Weighed after my walk. 11st 8.2lbs 162.2 pounds - a new low.

Kimberly

I certainly hope to be noticeably slimmer than this by June (as I am sure do you). It is nice to anticipate future reduction like that. It encourages us to do all the hard work that we need to do to make it happen.

If your hubby has to work until mid June then I think that it should all tie in very nicely. I will get hubby to check what date he has to be back at work and let you know.

I see that we are 4th and 5th in the challenge (although there are a whole crowd of people only very slightly behind me). I am getting optimistic that I might manage to survive next week. I can sense another week of fish on the menu here too!

When doing veg this week - be wary of brussels sprouts. I was stunned at how much sodium is in 4 sprouts! 155mg is huge for a little quantity of a vegetable. Thankfully I have a mixed veg approach in that I do a small quantity of a lot of different vegetable types. For challenges like this I do mine in a separate pan - then I can weigh up front and cook all my veg together. I always knew that the gravy would be high in sodium and I like a reasonable showing on the plate. Silly really because half the gravy gets left on the plate at the end. If I was nearer the limit I would dish out what I was actually likely to eat - but since I knew that I had scope I just stuck with normal quantities!

11st 8.2lbs is marvellous! :hurray::hurray::hurray: :party: :party:

No need to worry about me eating Brussel sprouts..lol. It is one of the few veggies that both H and I dislike. He cannot stand them. I think it's the only veggie he hates. When I was getting ready to go to Brussels to study, I cannot tell you how many people said to me, "make sure you don't come back with a few Brussel sprouts." Of course they meant not to get knocked up there. :biggrinjester:

Yes, I think if we get our max bonus and exercise pts, we should both be safe from elimination. However, one never knows.

Please don't plan on my coming as a definite. As I've said, I haven't even talked to H about this..lmao. He has no idea what devious schemes his wife's been up to. :D

Hi Kimberly

Thanks for your congratulations. You know how we always love a new low!

I know only too well how difficult men can be when they decide to dig their heels in. You have no idea how many times I mentioned Greece to hubby last year. Our biggest problem is that hubby is convinced that normal plane seats are too small so he believes that it is either drive or business class - neither are what you would call practical economically. Even though Greece is not too far away - it turns a holiday into a more expensive proposition than people would otherwise imagine.

As far as elimination goes - one never knows with the rate of weight loss that some people manage. I can very easily get left behind. On the positive side I have done 4 hours Friday and 3 hours today - so my maximum exercise points are secured already. I cannot imagine you not getting yours. I dont think that the sodium thing will cause too many problems - but I panicked yesterday when I added my food up and put in my main meal into the calculator twice (once as individual items and once as the total). I thought for a second that I was going over - before I had a reality check and saw what I had done!

When we have a roast dinner we have tons of vegetables - and I always happily presume that they will be healthy and fine and my only concern is to get an array of colours. I never really give any thought to whether some are better nutritionally than others - so I did get quite a surprise when doing the sums after the event. I would never have imagined them to be so different from each other from a sodium perspective. We have found that our taste in vegetables has changed since we were young. We used to dislike spinach and then we suddenly found that we liked it.

I am sure that you heard that Brussels joke quite often in your youth. People sometimes say these things and expect you to react to their joke like you have never heard it before. It can get a bit tricky when they do it for the millionth time. I often had the same experience regarding my married name. I am not going to say what it is on the forum - but people often seem to think that it is quite funny.

Hi Angel

Thanks for visiting and your congratulations. It is so nice to see you around again.

I dont think that I will be at my final goal for July - but I do have a birthday goal that I would rather like to be at or near. Naturally I will lose as much as I can - but I know that I still have a long way to go - I have such a small frame.

Either way - we are both going to be looking so slim for our birthdays in July.

I hope that you have a good weekend too.

Take care

The weather was bright again. I was able to do my walking with no jacket all day. It was like Spring and it seemed like everyone was out walking. I bumped into lots of people. I had to phone hubby up to say that I would be late home because I had spent so long chatting.

Lol@your married name being funny. Feel free to PM me what it is. :D I kept my maiden name, so I can't say that has ever happened to me. H's last name isn't funny, but Americans seem to misspell it frequently. He also dislikes the way the pronounce it. Fussy, fussy. :)

Now that you have lost so much weight, your hubby can take up some of your seat in economy. Or you can sit on his lap. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. See, it'll all work out. :sifone:

I almost broached the subject of London with my H a bit ago, and then chickened out. :smilielol5: I'll do it later tonight when I've got his attention. ;)

I've also been noticing the difference of sodium content in various vegetables. Starchy veggies seem to be higher than say broccoli.

I'm not too worried about the sodium bonus--I just have to be careful. The exercise this week will not be easy, though, as I am not at home to get on my bike, and my gym is a 20min drive from here. I did bring some exercise DVDs with me, though. Still, I think I might not spend every night here--or at least go home during the day sometimes to workout. But, I'm not complaining, as the dogs' owner was very generous in paying us for this. It's still cheaper than putting her dogs in a kennel, and the dogs are happier to be at home, of course.

Well, off to make the salmon. :D

Hi Kimberly

I did actually say to hubby that I would not be needing as much of my seat as last time we flew so he could have some of my seat if we moved the armrest. He wasnt convinced on the idea.

I would certainly be happy to sit on hubby's lap.

Good luck with broaching certain subjects with hubby.

The timing of the sodium bonus could not be better. Someone has just turned up on the forum (1 posting to their name) and has said:

Buy whole foods. This means if it comes in a box, it’s probably not good for you. Prepackaged food is full of preservatives, chemicals and sodium which can actually make PCOS symptoms worse.

I have realised that I must be extra sensitive to sodium by the things that I have seen make my weight go up out of all proportion to the calorie content. Until I read this - my only reason for trying to reduce sodium was to try and make the scale be nice. I never thought of it making my PCOS symptoms worse. After reading that I would have wanted to work my way through the sodium content of my regular food just to check up on it. The challenge is giving me bonus points for doing just that.

You are in charge of the challenge. All you need to do is change the rules so that friends can donate surplus exercise to each other. I suspect that I will have a spare 5 hours by the end of Sunday - if only that were in the rules..... :biggrinjester:

Margaret

I certainly wish you could donate some exercise pts to me this week! I only got in 30 min yesterday, and nothing today. I was going to work out tonight, but I'm too pooped. After not getting more than 5hrs of sleep last night, and then being busy all day, I just have no energy. So now I have 4.5hrs to do in 5 days. :ack2: I am also too tired to get into H's very good graces in order to tell him I want to go to London. :)

Well, find out how wide the economy seats are, then measure the width of Rod's bum and then yours to see if you have a surplus of seat. If you do, that should convince him. :D Yes, I am a genius...lmao!

That is interesting regarding the effects of sodium on PCOS. See, I've got your best interests in mind with these challenge bonuses. And you thought I was just out to make you miserable. :biggrinjester:

Hi Kimberly

It's a shame that you are too exhausted for exercise. I know that I would be the same if I was working full time - I just would never be able to do the amount of exercise that I need for weight loss. I would be hard pushed to do what I think that I would need to do for maintenance - but that is something that I can experiment with when I get there. A woman phoned me up a couple of days ago to ask me if I would be put forward for a contract - I told her that I just dont have the time to go to work!

If you only got 5 hours sleep - no wonder you are exhausted. It is a good job that you havent gone for that sleep bonus idea yet! You would hate to feel rotten and lose points.

I know that you will want to try to get your maximum exercise points - but will be under pressure to spend time with hubby. If the weather improves - or you dress up warm - maybe a decent compromise solution is to take hubby and the dogs that you are looking after on a long walk in the country. Pace out with hubby for a couple of hours - and your slim hubby should be in his element and you have spent time with him. The dogs should be happy and you will have notched up some exercise points. Is it worth taking your exercise bike over to the house you are staying in for the duration? Then you could use it over the rest of the week.

I will see what I can do regarding measuring hubby's bum.

Take care

Oh, there is no way in hell I"m going out walking today--it's currently -18C and windy as all get out. And that's with the sun out! Nope, I'll stick to my exercise DVDs..lol.

Have fun with the bum measuring. You could have a lot of fun with that. ;)

H and I are around each other a lot, he can spare me for an hour or so. I'll still be in the same house. :p

Have a good Sunday! I've gotta get ready for my OH. NOT looking forward to it at all. :(

Hey Maragret lookin good as usual:) Im sorry I havent been by in a few days...sometimes when Im tired I find it hard to drop by and read...being below your sodium is excelltn - Im not sure if I came in below or right dead on but I wasnt over...so that is good

In my diary you werent critizing me - I didnt take it that way:)Ive been doing this over all for about 2 yrs I guess but with all my distractions and stops and starts along the way it has taken me awhile...but now im as fully focused as I will be...I want this and this is for me and my girls and my family...Ive been in a great positive, powerful place lately and it is awesome...

Anyway I wanted to thank you for your support and droppin on my diary and such and most importantly I wanted you to knwo that I didnt think you were critizing me or anything like that:)

Thanks for visiting.

Kimberly

You really are getting tons of terrible weather this winter. It seems to just stay and stay there. If we get snow ever - it tends to be gone a couple of days later. I hate to sound like I am bragging - but we are really lucky at the minute. I cannot complain about the weather here. For the second day running I was able to do all my walks without a jacket (it got nice Friday afternoon). I have been fine in yoga pants and a sweatshirt over a t-shirt. It is like Spring is really here. We are supposed to get another couple of days of it according to the man over the road.

Hubby would have to be in the right mood for bum measuring. At the minute he is glued to Fashion TV and the Rio Carnival. He is recording that channel basically 24 hours a day and editing to get all the carnival bits then comparing to discard repeats and copying to the computer. At least it keeps him happy!

I hope that your open house went well and that at least some people turned up. It must get boring if they dont.

Cerella

I know that you are busy and would never expect you to pop by too regularly. I know what it is like with things to do. I never get round to visiting as many diaries as I would like. Little things like life get in the way. Then of course our weight loss project (with all that food planning and exercise) has to come ahead of computer time.

Well done for not going over on the sodium.

I am pleased that you understood that I was not criticising. I know that I can sometimes come across the wrong way. I am really focused on getting this weight dealt with this time. My husband believes that I am obsessive about it! It is just the first time in so many years that I have actually got to believe that it is possible. Whenever I have doubts - I do a google search for "Charlie Walduck". He lost 420 pounds (going from 616 to 196) in two years through diet and exercise. I look at his before and after photos and it always makes me believe again.

I am more than happy to pop into your diary every so often. I can never do it as often as I like - but I always think that we are all fighting the same battle and with each other's support we will all get there in the end.

I cannot wait until we are all at goal weights and have new diaries where we say that we are doing well and keeping our weight steady there.

Take care

Hi Omega!

Just stopping by to compliment on your journal :)

I like your dedication towards exercising and getting in shape! I will definately keep reading and congrats on your success so far.

Trevor

Hi Trevor

Thank you for your nice compliment. You need to be dedicated when you have a mountain to climb.

Parts of my diary are quite boring because I am very much a creature of habit. I structure each day very similarly regarding food and exercise. I suppose the interesting bit is that I am eccentric enough to keep on doing it and that I am very fortunate in that I get to be visited by lots of supportive people that I have a gossip with. Every morning I set off on a walk that is over 6 miles long (whatever the weather and sometimes incorporating a keep fit class) and often I am surprised that I am doing it all over again.

I suspect that I notch up one of the biggest average daily stepcounts on the forum.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Sunday 10/02/08

The weather was bright again. For the second day running it was warm enough to not wear a coat or jacket.

I got lazy with my sums when I was chopping the veg and dividing between the pans – I jotted the weight on the same piece of paper that I used on Friday. I kept most of the veg weights to the same as I had Friday so that I could copy the sodium numbers.

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles
Round the block = 6 times
Extra exercises = none
Weight = 11st 7.6lbs (i.e. 161.6 pounds) - new low
Steps = 28,854
Distance = 11.15 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements - have started taking extra vitamin C after doing a real age test identified that I would benefit from it
Continued my creaming regime – missed one bio-oil massage.
Continued ankle exercises

My Food / Drink:

For challenge need to count sodium content of food and keep daily total under 2500mg

total sodium for day = 1716mg

1 banana (1mg sodium)
3 weetabix (150mg sodium), sweetener (0 sodium), 350 ml skimmed milk (175mg sodium)
1 large handfuls honey Shreddies (105mg sodium)
Roast chicken (92mg sodium) , carrot (62mg sodium) , parsnip (6mg sodium) , spinach (8mg sodium) , swede (12mg sodium) , brussel sprouts (155mg sodium) , onion (2mg sodium) , broccoli (10mg sodium) , cauliflower (27mg sodium) ,gravy (630mg sodium) total = 1004mg sodium
1 large handfuls of raisins (140mg sodium)
1 large handfuls of raisins (140mg sodium)
2 litres of cold water
some diet cola (trace 1mg sodium)
