Omega's journey

Hey Margaret - I find it strange about sodium in your water as well...And yes you should veiw your self as an example , even though you just have dealt with it now YOU STILL HSVE DONE IT - you by yourself at your age.Do you knwo how many ppl blame their age for lack of weioght loss as they get older. You are totally doing this and have done it. You deserve a big pat on the back:)Find the goodness and the greatness adn the positiy in what you ahve done and are still doing...ALot of people in your age category or obesity category never would have bothered.

As far as my age and my weight...ya - Ive been seriously - well semi seriously working at it and Ive don well considering...Ive gotten a little side tracked a few times and staggered off the path but I always find my way back...this time I can feel it and taste it and im going for it till it is done...I am a single mommy to two beautiful girls..3 and 13 I am their only parent and their role model , Im doing this for me and my health to rebuild my self esteam, self worth and self confidence (it was beaten down ina bad relationship - and has pretty much all been restored) and to be an example of health to my children...My 3 yr old loves to exerciseshe will choose to do a dvd with me over watching cartoons:)and when we go out she orders saladas instead of fries adn alot of the time asks for salad as a snack when she is hungry:)

I dropped by to wish you luck with the end of this week coming up and hope you are moving on which I am sure you will be.Well I hope we both are:)Congrats on moving the weight down this week.

Thanks for visiting

I was just the same a year ago - hadnt been out much at all. You cannot really count a weekly trip to Tescos in the car to get groceries as being much of a walk. I dont know how many steps it was that I was doing on an average day - but 30s semis are not that big to go from room to room!

I found that by keeping doing it every day - I could build it up. It got easier - so I made it just as difficult by trying to go a bit further and / or trying to go a bit faster. Initially I would be proud for going round the block - then maybe twice round the block. A week or so later I went as far as the local newsagent a bit further. Then I got so that I could go to a parade of shops.

I am a PCOS lady and had often tried to lose weight - but found it too difficult. As I did more and more walking while eating a healthy balanced diet - I found that my weight was reducing in a way that it hadnt on previous weight loss attempts. I was getting the level of weight loss that would normally be associated with a normal person - not a PCOS lady. I became addicted to seeing my weight come down and was happy to put in the steps that could make it happen. Do not think that I suggest for one minute that other people should be putting in the amount of walking that I do. A lot of authorities state that we would all benefit if we did 10,000 steps per day. I would suggest that you got a pedometer and aimed to build up your steps to that kind of level to get the best weight loss results. It is perfectly possible to build that up by starting with 15 minutes and building - I did!

My husband is basically as large as I was when I started. He weighs about 25.5 stone and is 5ft8ins. He is basically the same weight as he was a year ago. He had lost a little last year and put on quite a bit over Christmas. He is currently not as good as he could be with his food and he is currently averaging about 7,000 steps. Some days he gets his steps done at work - other days we go out for a little walk together when he gets in from work. I would dearly like him to lose weight as I worry about him. His father died through obesity of a heart attack as he turned 47 and high cholesterol runs in his family. I wish that he wasnt very definitely morbidly obese (as I was) as I am afraid that I could lose him.

I am sure that if your husband is naturally thin he will trim down as he sees you lose weight.

I agree that it is all too easy to think that the task of bringing weight down is impossible when in fact it is just really really really difficult. I think that it is easy to mistake really really really difficult with impossible at any age.

You are teaching your children not just how to eat and exercise healthily - but also how to rise to a challenge. You should be congratulated for that.

Being a single parent will bring a lot of problems for you - and I am sorry that you have suffered from a bad relationship. You have clearly found your way through these problems to a more positive future. We all have problems - but mine have been totally different from yours. I have been blessed by a marriage to a very good man (we have been married for over twenty years) but PCOS brings fertility problems and we were never able to have children. I think that it is important (for the sake of our sanity) that we accept our life as it is and not like you see in some fictional perfect family. We all want what we cannot have.

We all have times when we can get sidetracked - the important thing is getting back on track as quickly as possible before too much needs to be done all over again. Feel proud of the way that you find your way back.

My weight is down a little today - so at least I will not be scoring a gain in the challenge like last week. I will weigh again tomorrow and use the best one. I am sure that lots of other people will be losing more weight than me - but challenge or not - any weight loss brings me that much nearer my goal weight.

I hope that the scales go well for you too.

Take care
Love
Margaret

I've stopped by for an afternoon cuppa. :D

Hmm...I think I'm going to add something to the sodium bonus--tap water sodium doesn't count. The reason being that the amount of sodium in everyone's tap water will be different. And in cases of well water like mine, I have no idea how much is in it.

Congrats on having the scale go down again today. It looks like you'll post at least a 1.2lb loss this week. :)

Hi Kimberly

The scale did indeed go down and the loss is already posted. I can always edit it again tomorrow if I lose anything tomorrow. That way - I cannot miss out on the points if the computer goes mad.

I am very impressed to see your new low. You really are hovering just over a brilliant milestone. If you are really careful today you might manage to another another new low. I just know that you will be itching for that milestone to happen. At this rate you will be racing up towards The Krinse and Wulsk.

I think that is a good idea of yours regarding the water sodium. Even when companies publish what it might be - it is too hazy to be much use. There are a lot of numbers that are less than 200mg.

Take care

I saw that you'd posted your weight today in the challenge section. I did the same..lol.

Yeah, it's just too much hassle for everyone to try and figure out how much sodium is in their drinking water.

I don't think I stand much of a chance of winning the challenge. My goal is just to stay in it until the end. :biggrinjester: My weight loss tends to go in streaks--I'll lose 8lbs or so in a month, and then won't lose much for several weeks. I wish I was one of those steady and consistant losers. Oh well.

 WOW you are like the energizer bunny, you keep going and going
and going!!Way to stay on track hope to catch up with ya somewhere in the near future lol!HUGGGS Tammy

:waving: Hi Margaret!
Just stopped by to cheer you on as you continue racing :auto:toward your goal! YOU'RE AMAZING! Keep up the GREAT work.

Cheers
Janice

Thanks for visiting and words of encouragement.

Kimberly

I know what you mean about wanting to stay in the challenge until the end - but realistically speaking - I doubt that I will manage it. My weight loss will let me down. As discussed several days ago - I expect most remaining people will maximise all the other points. I was a steady and consistent loser (in a skewed way) for a decent proportion of last year - I expect that the next 3 stone will take a lot longer than the last!

Tammy and Janice

I know that you will catch up with being my weight very soon. In many ways you need to remember that you are way ahead of me. You will get to goal long before I do. My weight may be similar to yours - but I have a lot more fat still on me.

All we can do is keep on trying and hope that our bodies let go of the fat.

Take care

Amen to that. One of my friends on a different board posted something to the effect of "The secret to a long and happy marriage is to not get divorced in the unhappy times."

Hey woman! I'm glad you had some decent Springlike weather! :hurray: I know all about scraping ice of car windows..lol.

I saw you were down again on the scale today!:party::party:

How's that ankle doing? I hope those ankle exercises keep it from acting up! If I do come to London this year, you and I are going to do some walking together. :biggrinjester:

You are safe from elimination this week, and I'm still waiting for 5 people to update. :D I have little doubt you'll make it to the final week. There will be 9 people in it to the end.

Hi Kimberly

Thanks for popping by. I must admit that I was rather pleased to get back to my low weight today. I have to say that my weight was higher before I went out walking and to my keep fit class (and that the Friday teacher did an hour of solid aerobics today saying things like "this will burn calories" - no mat work at all today!). I had my half litre bottle of water during the class (but not an extra half litre straight afterwards like last week) because I did remember that I had another weighing opportunity coming up on return home. As ever weighing is purely a numbers game because it would go up as soon as I ate my weetabix - but the fact is that I got on the scales 3 times, and 3 times I got the number so it counts as far as I am concerned.

It's nice to know that I am ok for the challenge yet. It looks like The Krinse and Wulsk have it all tied up with a ribbon. It would be nice to make it into the final 9 - but I know better than rely on my weight loss.

I thought of the weather that you have been getting when I went on my afternoon blocks. One of the neighbours told me that we are forecast for 5 days worth of decent weather. Of course - you never know whether you can trust the forecast - but it would be nice!

The ankle is much better now - but I felt it before I set out this morning. I made sure that I did the exercises then. Five minutes later things were much better - but it certainly brought home to me that I really want to remember to do those silly little exercises. They only take a couple of minutes and they really can make a huge difference.

It will be great if you can come walking with me. I really wish that the house wasnt in such a state - but we really are in such a mess. Reclaiming a house from tenants, downsizing so bringing millions of boxes that we havent room to unpack, abandoning things to spend time in Greece and not doing any housework in favour of a year of excessive walking has all certainly taken it's toll round here. We have even had to turn down requests from family to stay.

Take care
Love
Margaret

No worries, Margaret, I had no expectation of you putting us up. :) It would be the same if you were to come here right now. There just isn't any room..lol. I figured we'd drop by on a Saturday and spend the afternoon together if you and Rod were free. Or you could meet us in London. Are you accessible by tube, or only by train from London?

Part of me is thinking of just waiting until June to see if any better flight deals become available. It really would be preferable to wait until then for several different reasons.

Back to your old low is fantastic! I expect you'll see the 150s very soon. :)

Well, I've gotta run! I never got around to doing the grocery shopping last night. :D

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Kimberly

It all sounds good. We havent got a tube station (but there are them not too far away by car) and there is certainly a mainline station (I walk past it all the time).

I have just about got hubby convinced that a Greek trip is called for in June as he has holiday from work in the first three weeks of June. No plane tickets are booked yet - but you can imagine that I am itching to get out there to show my Greek friends my slimmer figure! I do hope that if your trip moves to June - we do not miss each other.

Remember to buy fish when you are doing that grocery shopping. You know how I swear by it!

Take care

Margaret

oh my gosh, Omega! I just looked at your ticker!!

yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, yes! your Greek friends will be amazed! Ill bet they dont recognize you!!

was that too big?

hee hee

Hi Jill

Thanks!

Your writing isnt too big - but I certainly used to be!!!

I have taken off quite a lot of weight since the end of last February. The weight is coming more slowly now - but I will keep on going until I am the size that I want to be.

I havent mentioned to my Greek friends that I have been losing weight (although it is possible that they have heard rumours from mutual friends - no-one has mentioned anything on the phone). I wonder if they will recognise me when I turn up or if they will think that hubby has traded me in for a slimmer lady!

Take care
Love
Margaret
