Omega's journey

Thursday 31/01/08

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles
Round the block = 7 times (on two laps my husband came too)
Extra exercises = none
Weight = 11st 10.6lbs (i.e. 164.6 pounds)
Steps = 29,193
Distance = 11.28 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements
Continued my creaming regime – missed one bio-oil massage.
Continued ankle exercises

My Food / Drink:

Challenge requires that I drink sufficient water.

Calculation (allow extra for weight to wiggle up during the week not that I want it to go that high)
168/2 = 84 * 29.5735 = 2484.174 ml = 2.49 litres
So 2.5 litres of water covers me.

1 banana
3 weetabix, sweetener, 350 ml skimmed milk
1 large handful honey Shreddies
1 large handful honey Shreddies
2 small pears
38 grapes
Roast turkey, gravy, carrot, parsnip, brussel sprouts, sweetcorn, cauliflower
1 large handfuls of raisins
½ large handfuls of raisins
2.5 litres of cold water
some diet cola

Hi Margaret,

Sorry your weight was up. Mine was, too. The good news is that we both made it to the individual phase. I'm ready to bust my tail this week to get some decent weight loss.

We do have tons of space in the basement. However, it is musty, so anything that stays down there for any length of time gets that musty odor. So my bedroom closet has 3 large suitcases crammed into it--among other things. :D We are still very cramped, and I cannot wait to get my own place. :)

Have a great weekend!

Hi Kimberly

It is great that we are through to the individual phase. If I dont get too many weight losses I will not remain in for too much longer though. We will soon be at a point where almost everyone has picked up all the exercise and bonus points. Then the differentiator is on weight loss alone.

I see that Wulsk has nearly caught up with the Krinse. Initially I thought that V had the challenge nailed in the first week with losing her Christmas weight gain. And to think that it is only a couple of weeks since Wulsk was claiming that she was on a plateau because she was experiencing a couple of days with no loss. If only we could lose weight like Wulsk!

I accept my gains as the way things go. If I hadnt had any new lows for the past couple of weeks I wouldnt have had a gain at this weight - it is not long since I was delighted to be this weight and happily I havent gone the other side of a big milestone yet (still under 12 stone, overweight and not obese).

All you have to do is look at a number of people (Mal, Kim, Blancita) and see that things can be worse than losing 3.8 pounds over January - which is what I did. I had a decent loss in December which I maintained so I am about a stone down from 1st December which makes things look a lot better. I begin to ask myself how much weight I can reasonably expect to lose per month this deep into a long term project. Although heavier than earlier in the week - I am lighter than I have been in over twenty years. Disregarding weight but looking at my general level of fitness (blood pressure etc tests, exercise level, quality of diet) I suspect that I am healthier than I have been for about 25+ years.

Naturally I would like to lose a bit more weight - and am hoping that things start up again naturally by maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

I can thoroughly understand why you would want your own place. When hubby and I were first together we had a tiny starter house in Bedfont (right next to terminal 4 of the airport). It had one living room and one bedroom but that was fine and it was all ours. It was tiny even compared to our current house. The thing was that we had no posessions so we werent as cramped as we are now.

I hope that you have a great weekend too.

I will be off out walking soon.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Oh, wow Margaret, I didn't realise that you're below the 12 stone milestone :hurray:
You must be so proud of yourself. I'm so very, very impressed. It's your day-to-day resilience that is really remarkable (a bit of unintentional illiteration there!!!). Seriously, you just keep on going, and nothing seems to push (or pull) you off track. I wish I could be as focused as you.

How's your hubby's exercise coming along? Does it bother him that you are so far along your journey and that he is somewhat left behind? Before, you were both heavy: you were, in a sense, in the same boat together. But now you're the one who is fitter, healthier, more image-conscious... it must be a bit awkward sometimes. Or perhaps it's motivating for him?

My husband's got a handful of kilos to lose - I guess about 10 in total (although I find him perfect as he is - really!). Every now and then he makes an effort, and loses 5 or 6 kg, but then goes back to his old, evil ways (ice-cream - not a problem for me - and good wines - gulp!). During the 2 or 3 weeks that he's being careful, I find it easy to be "good". But then it all just goes to pot :(

Thank you for your continuing support, coming to visit me in my diary. It's helped me these past few weeks, knowing that people are there and are interested. Thanks! :Angel_anim:

Hi Auburn

Thanks for visiting - but you really shouldnt - you are so busy.

I suppose it is easy to be focused when you see things happening to your shape that you have dreamed about for twenty years and never found a way to make happen. It is the natural way for things to slow down and while impatient for results it becomes important to manage your own expectations and know that although the task is 5/7 there - that final 2/7 will take quite a long time.

Hubby's exercise is going pretty well all things considered. He is managing to average about 6,000 to 7,000 steps per day counting every step of the day. Although this is not as near to 10,000 as I would like for him to do - it is still noticeably better than the UK average and pretty good going for someone of his size.

He says that he is proud of my achievements and I believe this to be the case. I think that he is to some extent motivated but would prefer it if it could be done with less effort.

I find it to be very important not to link my weight loss efforts with his. That way I am less tempted to follow suit when he succumbs to temptation. I know exactly what you mean when you say that things are more difficult when hubby stops a diet. Many past weight loss efforts were joint projects and I stopped when he stopped.

I am more than happy to pop over to your diary every so often. I can never manage to visit all the diaries I would like to visit nearly as often as I would like. I am always pleased to see that you are coping ok when I visit as I know that you are under a lot of stress. I honestly think that you are wise to try and continue to eat healthily and to try and fit in a little exercise. Our bodies are like machines that perform better if given the right grade of fuel and reasonably maintained. Quite aside from the weight loss aspects - I actually think that you will perform better in your studies and exams by continuing these positive behaviours.

Take care

I hope your weight has gone back down today. If not, I'm sure it will soon. I laughed when I got on the scale today, b/c not only had I dropped the lb that put up yesterday, but lost another .5lbs for a new low. Of course it would've been nicer if it had happened yesterday for the challenge weigh in, but I'll take it, anyway. :D

Yes, if only we could lose like Wulsk! I, too, saw that she'd nearly caught up with thekrinse. You and I had similar thoughts with this week's results--I also told myself that pretty much all who are left now get in all their bonus and exercise pts, so it's lose weight or get eliminated. This is why I'm determined to keep my eating under control this week. I dropped from first place on my team to 4th--just barely avoiding elimination.

I agree that you've accomplished a lot over the past year, and even if you don't lose another pound (although I know you will), you have vastly improved your overal health and quality of life.

We still don't have a lot of stuff, and I would be happy with a small house if we were in our 20s, but as I want to have babies soon, I need space..lol. Plus, we need a guest bedroom for visiting Aussies and out-of-town friends. :)

I hope you had good weather and enjoyed your walks today. :)

Hi Kimberly

Congratulations on the new low. That gives you 1.5 REAL points for next week. You can almost disregard the other points now because as discussed pretty much everyone left will keep on maximising all the other points (unless you come up with a real stinker like you have threatened). I would be intrigued to know what kind of stinker you have in mind because most people would not be phased by the things that phase me and most probably vice versa. Ban raisins and I will be the only person to sulk - make everyone exercise for three hours a day and I will feel fine! Feel free to use that one!!!!

My weight is still up - but I am hoping that it will be on the way down by Tuesday. We will have to wait and see.

Amber's exit was only due to her recent illness. That was a definite surprise result if you were betting on recent form. When I went to bed last night some results were not in and I would not have been surprised if eliminations had hit the red team. It is quite fortunate that was not the case because as Mom2 pointed out in our team thread - there was a tie in the points of herself and Missblonde (something we discussed pre-challenge and decided would be unlikely to happen) and it would have been a problem to work out which of them would be eliminated. You might want to invent some sort of rule that covers that eventuality.

I definitely will exert every effort to lose more weight. I will keep an open mind as to what my goal weight should be but would be stunned if I decided to stop before I was at 126 pounds. That is nine stone.

I know just what you mean about space. I thought the same back in 1987 when we moved here from Bedfont.

The weather today was fine and the walks went well. I hope that the weather there is improving and the weekend continues well for you.

I'm off to bed now.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Yeah, Margaret, having the flu really hurt me in the challenge. Not being able to work out or keep water down ruined my bonus point capabilities so that weight loss could not save me. Being eliminated after being near the top was a hard pill to swollow! But, it was fact, life happened and I had no control to stop it!

P.S. I bought some salmon yesterday, after all your salmon as a miracle meal talk. I HATE fish, but hey, I hate peas too and I choke them down!

Hi Amber

I was just about to pop into your diary. I hadnt realised that you had been ill until I saw you eliminated and since you had been third across all teams at the end of the previous week (behind The Krinse and Wulsk) I had really expected you to be in long after my elimination. It was only when I was looking in your team thread trying to understand the eliminations that I realised what had happened. In fact I expected you to be fighting it out in the final week. I had fully expected the eliminations to be from the black and red teams because blue team people had been in overall 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th at the end of the previous week.

Eliminated or not - I am sure that many of your friends know how well you actually did in this challenge. None of us can help being ill - and there really is never a convenient time to be ill.

The reason why we are all on this forum is that we desire weight loss. You lost weight last week (when I actually gained weight).

I hope that you are feeling a lot better now. I will pop over into your diary and see how things are going for you otherwise.

Take care

Hey there - I thought I would drop by adn visit diaries of those in my team - especially now since we have moved to individual phases...

Your water intake is looking great and do you always go for a 6 mile walk every morning ?

It is also great that hubby joins you for some of it.

Looking at your ticker you have come remarkably far:):):)

Congrats on gettin to where you are especially from where you started.Keep up the great work:)!!!

Thanks for visiting Cinderelly. It is so nice to see you here. It would be so good if at least someone from the red team was in with a good chance at the end. It is not likely to be me - my weight loss is too skewed and my rate of weight loss is less than brilliant at the minute anyway. It was so nice in the red team - especially the way that we all pulled together really hard in the last couple of weeks. I think we all really maximised our points and got all that were achieveable for us (weight loss is always a hit and miss thing!)

Yes I do always go for at least 6 miles every morning. I missed one day in December and before that June was the previous time that I didnt when I was ill for a week. I also go walking again every afternoon and to exercise classes 3 times a week and I am thinking of maybe doing more. My hormones work against me so I find that I have to do extra exercise to have any chance at losing any weight.

I am delighted when my hubby joins me with walking. He is a cuddly chap (over 350 pounds - his BMI is not too different from mine when I started) and I am apt to worry about his weight (his father died of a heart attack in his forties due to obesity).

I must admit - I am delighted with my weight loss so far. With excessive walking it is like I have discovered a magic formula which makes my weight loss dreams a possibility. I had tried to lose weight so many times over the past 20 years and never got anywhere. I have just passed from a BMI which means "obese" to one which is "overweight" and it may seem silly when I still have quite a big tummy - but in some ways I feel quite skinny now. Everything is comparative!

Thanks for your congratulations. Exercise is a strong suit for you too - so I imagine that like me you will be able to scoop maximum exercise and bonus points this week. After that it is down to the luck of the scales for us both.

Take care
Love
Margaret

:) Ya im not sure how far I will go and I dont think I will be in it right till the end but Im gonna try my best...I find for myself as well I really need to pump out the exercise in order to loose anything...and really have my eating in check which is where i still teter a little...I also just noticed your age - your doing damn good - you deserve the weight loss you get and the milage and especially to still be a part of the challenege...

Here's hopin we get close to the end - however next weeks challenege scares me a little wiht what Bikini had posted in the thread.

Thanks for more kind comments.

We can do no more than try our best and give the eventual winners a bit of a fight along the way. We will stay in as long as we possibly can and then give the folk in the parallel thread a bit of a fight too. As far as contests like this goes - everyone is a winner because everyone manages to lose some weight and that is what we are all here trying to do.

I am not sure about the next bonus. I have heard no hints anywhere as to what Kimberly has in mind!!! I have to keep my food under very strong control and I allow myself such little variation that avoiding junk food and the like is no real problem to me (unless I binge - when all the rule books go out the window!!!).

I have abandoned a lot of calorie counting diets in the past when I have believed that I had let myself down - so on purpose I do not count calories and I am happy for myself to eat as much as I want as long as the food is really healthy. I eat a very repetitive diet and my weight loss so far demonstrates that I must be getting the calorie level pretty much right the main of the time. I achieved my weight loss in a little under a year (I started late February last year). I hated the calorie counting in the last challenge (before Christmas) because I felt that it made my project more vulnerable than I would like. Calorie counting would probably not be too bad for most people but would be quite scary for me! The calories that I eat in raisins alone would be enough to shock most people - the problem is that I get terrible constipation pains if I dont eat them and I prefer eating them to taking laxatives like the doctor suggested. I really do not think that someone who has lived their lives in obesity and has developed a funny relationship with food should get too inclined to take laxatives regularly.

Hey there Margerett,
There is no stopping you!!!How tall are you?
I saw 119 for your goal I am hoping when I hit 150 I will look like I am
about 120ish lol! Hope you have a wonderful day!Tamm,y

Hi Margaret!

It's been a while since I visited your diary (I decided I much rather prefer visiting diaries than keeping my own, so I stopped writing in mine!).....anyway, I got a pedometer the other day, mainly because I was inspired by you! It's amazing how many steps I take in a day without realizing it. I tend to take it off when I'm at the gym (not sure why), but I still manage over 10000 a day just because I'm constantly walking throughout the hospital from room to room! And once I got the pedometer, I became better about choosing stairs over the elevators just to up my steps! Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know b/c I did buy that pedometer after seeing how many steps you do in a day and how dedicated you are! I know I don't have that much to lose, and the highest I've really been is around 140, but it's still a challenge for me to take off those 10-15 pounds, especially when all my friends eat whatever they want to, don't workout, and somehow remain skinny! It's frustrating at times, but then coming to this site and seeing members like you is so inspirational! Anyway, just wanted to stop in and say hi!

I've popped in for a late night cuppa. :D

Ah, that time of the month, eh? That explains why the scale's been up for you the last few days. Well, I'm sure it will be back down soon. I had that problem last week.

I suspect you'll be ok with the next bonus--although you will not like the last bonus much. Oh, as to the tie between Mom2 and MissBlonde, Mom2 would've been the one to go as she had lost 1lb that week as opposed to MissBlonde's 2lbs. I did state in the rules that in the case of a tie, the person with the greater loss that week (or least gained) would remain. If they'd both lost or gained the same amount that week, the person with the most weight lost overall would've remained.

I am currently hatching up the next challenge I plan to do after this one's finished. I think you'll like it. I'm still trying to work out exactly how I'm going to do things, though.

Glad you're having good walking weather. It was warmer today and we didn't get any snow, but are supposed to get 1-2inches overnight. That's no biggie.

Have a great week! :)

Thanks for visiting. It is always lovely to see you all here.

Tammy

I am only 5ft 3 inches tall - and unfortunately I know that under this padding I have a small frame. Many people that have been large for a long time have no real concept of what they would look like at for instance a weight that gives a BMI of 25 which is "normal". I was of normal weight until things went suddenly wrong in my mid twenties (to do with my hormones and PCOS) so I know that when I was about twenty years old I only felt that my weight was ok when it was between 8 and 8 and a half stone (112 to 119 pounds). When my weight went up to 9 stone (126 pounds) in my twenties I was self-conscious about my tummy and thought that I was fat. I even used to wear a corset or waspie - not trying to dress sexy but because I thought that I was so fat! Naturally not just my size but my shape has changed since then (my boobs are a lot bigger), and anyway they say that people can look better with a slightly heavier weight as they get older. These things add in variables - but the fact is that I can see quite a lot of fat on my body that really needs to go. I think that I have quite a long way still to go - although there can be no denying that I am much slimmer than I was!

keepitoff83

I am pleased that wearing a pedometer is working well for you. I have found that wearing one certainly encourages me to do more steps - and that must be particularly useful for yourself since you tend to be so busy you seldom get time for exercise. If you read my reply to Tammy above you will see that I understand your desire to lose a comparitively small amount of weight. I remember that feeling well from my youth.

Kimberly

I am so pleased that there are rules to cover off those draw scenarios. I joined the challenge knowing that you were going to make me count calories at some point and have been prepared for it from the start. I wont like it and will certainly not continue that "good behaviour" once the week is over - but I will be competitive enough to probably do it whichever thread I am in at the time (I like to give the leaders a run for their money!)

I am sure that I will like the next challenge that you come up with. You are very good at getting the balance right between points for the work that gives weight loss and the weight loss itself. You turn the bonuses into a nice little course on how to lose weight healthily which I am sure will develop good behaviours for many contestants.

For a 48 year old that didnt ovulate at all (despite having periods which were irregular) from her mid twenties to her late thirties I certainly have a regular cycle. They finally managed to stabilise my periods through medication but were never sure whether they got me to ovulate! I now have a 27 to 28 day cycle that you could almost set a clock by! I got the email from mymonthlycycles to say "guess what is coming", before I saw the email I was sensing the imminent arrival, and by evening it was here. I am hoping that my weight loss will resume in a couple of days time.

Thankfully we havent had any snow yet this year. They have been having it in Newcastle - but not down here. The walking weather has been pretty good - but certainly very cold. I always wear lots of warm clothes so that is no problem.

Have a great week too.

Take care
Love
Margaret
